Wendzel entered Saturday's 8-4 loss to the Reds late and went 1-for-1 with a two-run home run in his lone plate appearance. The game was out of hand by the time Wendzel replaced second baseman Marcus Semien in the top of the ninth inning. He delivered a two-run shot as part of a four-run inning that made the game closer than it appeared. Wendzel has made four starts since his contract was selected earlier this month, with the most recent start coming April 19.... See More ... See Less

Rangers' Davis Wendzel: Makes MLB debut
Wendzel started at third base and went 0-for-3 in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to Oakland. Wendzel, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Round Rock on Monday, made his major-league debut. The 27-year-old third baseman takes over for the injured Justin Foscue (oblique) and will be part of the solution at the hot corner while Josh Jung (wrist) is unavailable. Normally, Josh Smith or Ezequiel Duran would start at third, but those two were filling in for resting regulars elsewhere.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Davis Wendzel: Contract selected Monday
Wendzel had his contract selected from Triple-A Round Rock by the Rangers on Monday. Wendzel will be in line to make his major-league debut in the near future, replacing Justin Foscue (oblique) on the Rangers' roster after Foscue was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday. Wendzel has appeared in nine games so far this season in Triple-A, batting .314 with six extra-base hits, including three homers, while driving in eight runs over 35 at-bats. In order to make an opening on the 40-man roster for the 26-year-old, Texas transferred Josh Jung (wrist) to the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Davis Wendzel: Could make MLB debut
Wendzel has been invited to major-league camp and could make his MLB debut at some point in 2022, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. The Rangers opened an opportunity for several infielders after they traded Isiah Kiner-Falefa to the Twins for catcher Mitch Garver. Kiner-Falefa was the presumptive starter at third base, but now Texas is looking at a few potential replacements, including the possibility of Wendzel getting at-bats there in 2022. The 25-year-old infielder batted .238/.346/.399 over a combined 263 plate appearances at Double-A Frisco, Triple-A Round Rock and a rookie-level affiliate while rehabbing a wrist injury.... Rangers' Davis Wendzel: Activated from injured list
Wendzel (wrist) was reinstated off the 7-day injured list Friday by Double-A Frisco, Joseph Hoyt of the Dallas Morning News reports. Wendzel had been at rookie-level ball rehabbing a sprained wrist. The third baseman is batting .230 with a .721 OPS over 19 games at Frisco.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Davis Wendzel: Back on injured list
Double-A Frisco placed Wendzel on the 7-day injured list Sunday due to an unspecified issue. Wendzel suffered a broken left hamate bone in late May and was activated from the injured list Saturday. It's unclear if his move back to the IL is related to the previous injury or if he's dealing with a new concern.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Davis Wendzel: Starts up rehab assignment
Wendzel (hand) began a rehab assignment July 8 with the Rangers' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate. Through his first five games with the ACL club, he has gone 4-for-17 with a home run, a triple, three walks, eight runs and five RBI. Before heading to the ACL, Wendzel had been sidelined for about six weeks after undergoing surgery on his left hand. The Rangers may keep him in the lower levels of the minors for a few more games so he can get his timing back at the plate, but once Wendzel is deemed ready to go, he'll be reinstated from Double-A Frisco's 7-day injured list.... Rangers' Davis Wendzel: Requires surgery
Wendzel has been diagnosed with a broken left hamate bone, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. Wendzel left Tuesday's game for Double-A Frisco after a strikeout, and he'll require surgery that is expected to keep him out for at least six weeks. Prior to suffering the injury, Wendzel hit .241 with two home runs and six RBI in 17 minor-league games to begin the season.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Davis Wendzel: Dealing with hand injury
Wendzel is dealing with an unspecified hand injury, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. Wendzel didn't play Wednesday for Double-A Frisco after leaving the previous game following a strikeout. Whether or not the young infielder is dealing with a serious injury like a broken hamate bone or something less worrisome is not yet clear.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Davis Wendzel: Joins player pool
Wendzel was added to the Rangers' player pool Tuesday. Wendzel will be in the best situation for his development over the final month of the season, though he's highly unlikely to be considered for his big-league debut. He's yet to play above the rookie-ball level.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Davis Wendzel: Impacted by injury in 2019
Wendzel suffered a thumb injury in last year's NCAA tournament and was limited to a combined 19 at-bats in 2019 for the AZL Rangers and short-season Spokane, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. Wendzel is one of three young third basemen recently acquired, but the 22-year-old may not stick there. He is behind Sherten Apostel and Josh Jung on the organizational depth chart. His projected power doesn't profile as a corner infielder, and the Rangers feel he has the hands to play all four infield spots. Wendzel had just three at-bats over two Cactus League games before heading back to minor-league camp.... See More ... See Less
