  • Rangers' Josh Jung: Undergoes another wrist surgery

Jung underwent tendon release surgery on his right wrist Tuesday, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports. Jung missed most of the first four months of the season after having surgery to repair a fracture in the same wrist, and he went back on the injured list in late September with recurring discomfort. The hope is that, following this most recent wrist surgery, he will be able to have a normal offseason after 3-4 weeks of rehab. Jung had a .719 OPS with seven homers over 46 games with the Rangers this season.

  • Rangers' Josh Jung: Placed on injured list

The Rangers placed Jung on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with right wrist tendinitis. Jung's wrist has kept him sidelined for nearly a week, and his move to the IL will officially rule him out for the remainder of the season. With Ezequiel Duran away on paternity leave, Matt Duffy and Dustin Harris will come up from the minors and may see time at third base during the final week of the season.

  • Rangers' Josh Jung: Done for season

The Rangers are expected to place Jung (wrist) on the 10-day injured list, ending his season, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. Jung hasn't played since last Wednesday due to recurring discomfort in his surgically repaired right wrist. He is scheduled to be seen by a hand specialist Thursday in hopes of getting more information on the injury. Ezequiel Duran has started three of the last four games at third base and should continue to be the primary option at the position in the final week of the season. The Rangers are expected to promote either Dustin Harris or Sam Huff from the minors to take Jung's spot on the 28-man active roster.

  • Rangers' Josh Jung: Not in Sunday's lineup

Jung is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners. Jung started the first 13 games of September and will receive Sunday off after he began the month with three homers and an .881 OPS. Ezequiel Duran will shift to the hot corner while Carson Kelly receives a start at designated hitter.

  • Rangers' Josh Jung: Fills box score in win

Jung went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, an additional RBI, a stolen base and a hit-by-pitch in Tuesday's 7-4 win over the Yankees. Jung opened the scoring with a fourth-inning homer and contributed to the Rangers' comeback push with an RBI single in the eighth. The third baseman has gone 13-for-40 (.325) with two homers and three steals over his last 10 contests. That productive stretch has him up to a .276/.295/.455 slash line with six homers, four steals, 14 RBI and 16 runs scored through 34 games overall.

  • Rangers' Josh Jung: Out of lineup Saturday

Jung is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the A's. Josh Smith will start at third base and bat third against right-hander Joey Estes. Jung has hit safely in six of his last seven games and he swiped two bags Thursday, but the 26-year-old is still slashing just .229/.234/.314 with two homers in 27 games since returning from right wrist surgery.

  • Rangers' Josh Jung: Provides two key hits in win

Jung went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Sunday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Twins. Jung put the Rangers ahead for the first time with a seventh-inning solo shot. That lead didn't hold, but he added a single in the 10th inning that forced an error and led to the winning run scoring. Jung has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games, going 11-for-43 (.256) in that span, though his homer was his first since Aug. 4. The third baseman is slashing .274/.295/.476 with four homers, nine RBI, eight runs scored, three doubles, a triple and one stolen base over 21 contests this season.

  • Rangers' Josh Jung: Moves to cleanup

Jung batted fourth and went 1-for-3 with a walk and a double in Monday's 4-3 extra-inning win over Houston. Jung, who slotted seventh then sixth in his first several games since coming off the 60-day injured list, was moved to his highest spot in the order Monday. After going a sluggish 1-for-10 over his first three games back, Jung has hit safely in three straight, going 4-for-10 with two doubles and a home run.

  • Rangers' Josh Jung: Swats solo homer

Jung went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a double in Sunday's 7-2 loss to the Red Sox. Jung had two of the Rangers' three hits in the game, including a solo shot off Nick Pivetta in the second inning. This was Jung's first multi-hit effort since returning from right wrist surgery. He's gone 4-for-17 (.235) over five games since his return. For the year, he's batting .324 with three homers, seven RBI, seven runs scored and a stolen base across nine contests, but it looks like he's still finding his timing at the plate after a long absence.

  • Rangers' Josh Jung: Logs hit in return

Jung went 1-for-3 in Tuesday's 8-1 loss to the Cardinals. Jung made his return to the majors after missing 102 games with a wrist injury. He slotted in seventh in the batting order, which could be a temporary placement in a low-pressure slot as he acclimates to MLB pitching. When healthy and firing on all cylinders, Jung is expected to bat third, fourth or fifth.

  • Rangers' Josh Jung: Returns from IL

The Rangers reinstated Jung (wrist) from the 60-day injured list Monday. Though Jung isn't in the lineup for Monday's series opener in St. Louis, he finally looks to be back to full health after undergoing right wrist surgery in early April. Jung was pulled off his rehab assignment in late June after experienced renewed soreness in the wrist, but he checked out fine after playing in three games at Double-A Frisco over the weekend while going 4-for-10 with a double and two RBI. Look for Jung to return to Texas' lineup Tuesday and settle back in as the club's everyday third baseman.

  • Rangers' Josh Jung: Resumes rehab assignment

Texas manager Bruce Bochy said Saturday that Jung (wrist) is "doing great" after playing rehab games for Double-A Frisco on Friday and Saturday, MLB.com reports. Jung, who had his original rehab assignment paused in June, restarted it over the weekend, going 2-for-7 in the two games. The Rangers will evaluate the injured third baseman Monday, at which point the club will determine next steps. Options include having Jung play another rehab series in Triple-A or clearing the way for his return to the major-league club.

  • Rangers' Josh Jung: Could face live pitching soon

Jung (wrist) took batting practice on the field Sunday, and Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said afterward that the third baseman is close to facing live pitching, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. Jung had been steadily increasing the intensity of his hitting work over the past week before he took another step forward by getting in some swings on the field Sunday. Bochy noted that the 28-year-old "looks good," while adding that "the strength is back" in his wrist. If Jung's wrist responds well once he faces off against higher-velocity pitching, he would likely then head out on a minor-league rehab assignment. Jung may still have a chance to make it back from the 60-day injured list before the end of the month, though an early August return might be more realistic.

  • Rangers' Josh Jung: Swings off tee Sunday

Jung (wrist) said he took 15 swings with a regular bat off a tee Sunday, MLB.com reports. According to Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News, Jung admitted that he's not certain of his next step, but the 26-year-old plans to continue swinging the bat over the All-Star break this week. If Jung incurs no setbacks with his surgically repaired right wrist while doing so, the Rangers could then map out a minor-league rehab assignment coming out of the break. Jung previously appeared in four rehab games in June and looked to be on the cusp of returning from the 60-day injured list before experiencing inflammation in his wrist and having his activation date pushed back.

  • Rangers' Josh Jung: Out through All-Star break

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Wednesday that Jung will be shut down until next week to allow his right wrist to rest, and the third baseman will not return until after the All-Star break, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports. Jung had his swing test Saturday cancelled due to soreness in his right wrist. While a specialist confirmed that there is no structural damage, the lingering pain has kept Jung from swinging a bat since June 20. The hope for Jung is that the extended rest will allow the pain in his wrist to subside long enough to resume swinging a bat before ramping up through a rehab assignment. The 26-year-old appeared in just four games at the beginning of the season before sustaining a fractured right wrist due to being hit by a pitch in early April.

  • Rangers' Josh Jung: Still not swinging bat

Jung (wrist) has not been cleared to swing a bat, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. Jung has not swung a bat since his last rehab game on June 20 and admitted Tuesday that his surgically repaired right wrist remains sore. A specialist has confirmed that nothing is structurally wrong with the wrist, but the lingering discomfort is worrisome. There's no timetable for Jung's return.

  • Rangers' Josh Jung: To visit specialist

Jung will visit a specialist Monday for evaluation of his surgically repaired right wrist, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports. The Rangers pulled back on Jung's hitting progression Saturday for a second time this week. "A couple of days ago he was feeling really good," Texas manager Bruce Bochy said. "We were optimistic he would be swinging [Saturday]. There is still just a little soreness in there. We want to get rid of that before we ramp him up again." The team had prepared for Jung's return this week, but depending on how Monday's visit goes, he may not be ready until after the All-Star break. Once he's been medically cleared, Jung will require a ramp-up that could include more rehab games.

  • Rangers' Josh Jung: Shutting down for weekend

Texas manager Bruce Bochy said Saturday that Jung (wrist) will be shut down for the weekend before he resumes taking live batting practice Tuesday, MLB.com reports. Bochy noted that Jung has experienced residual soreness in his surgically repaired right wrist since he rejoined the club Friday, but the Rangers don't seem to view it as a setback and simply opted to have him rest up over the weekend. Jung could be activated from the 60-day injured list later this week if his wrist responds well to Tuesday's live BP session.

  • Rangers' Josh Jung: Takes live BP

Jung (wrist) took live batting practice Thursday, Kenndi Landry of MLB.com reports. The third baseman saw pitches from Tyler Mahle (elbow) as they both continue their rehabs. The next step for Jung is a trip to Triple-A Round Rock to continue live BP before he officially begins a rehab assignment, and he remains on track to return before the end of the month.

  • Rangers' Josh Jung: Resumes swinging bat

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Wednesday that Jung (wrist) "looks great" after resuming hitting, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. Jung was cleared to hit Tuesday following a visit with the doctor that performed the surgery on his right wrist in early April. He hit for a second straight day Wednesday while using a lighter bat, with Bochy saying afterward that "you'd think he was going to be ready in a couple of days" based on how he looked. Jung is not going to be ready to return soon, of course, but this is an encouraging progress report. A clearer timetable for the third baseman could be established in the coming days.
