Vasquez (calf) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo on Thursday.
Vasquez has been sidelined by calf tightness since Aug. 29. He shouldn't need much time to ramp up given he rarely works more than an inning, so it's realistic that he could return to the Detroit bullpen by mid-September.

Tigers' Andrew Vasquez: Out with calf tightness
Vasquez was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with left calf tightness, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
The 29-year-old has surrendered eight earned runs over six innings since being claimed off waivers by Detroit in early August, and he'll now be unavailable for at least the next couple weeks. With just over a month left in the campaign, Vasquez could have difficulty returning this season if he requires a shutdown period beyond a few days.

Vasquez, who tossed 1.1 scoreless innings of relief in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Red Sox, has a 2.16 ERA this season.
Vasquez was claimed off waivers from the Phillies on Aug. 4, and the lefty has logged three scoreless outings since then. The back end of Detroit's bullpen is somewhat in flux due to control issues from regular closer Alex Lange, so Vasquez could earn higher-leverage work if he continues to pitch well.

Detroit claimed Vasquez off waivers from the Phillies on Friday.
Vasquez was designated for assignment Wednesday as the Phillies did some 40-man roster shuffling in the aftermath of Tuesday's trade deadline. The 29-year-old left-hander had posted an impressive 2.27 ERA with 34 strikeouts through 39.2 major-league innings this season for Philadelphia and could wind up being a nice waiver-wire grab for the Tigers.

He'll lose his spot on the 40-man roster with the Phillies needing to clear room for two of their trade-deadline pickups in right-hander Michael Lorenzen and infielder Rodolfo Castro. Vasquez has largely operated in a middle-relief role for Philadelphia this season, accruing no saves or holds while turning in a 2.27 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 34:14 K:BB in 39.2 innings. His solid ratios could prompt another team in need of a lefty reliever to scoop him up off waivers.

Phillies' Andrew Vasquez: Records second win
Vasquez (2-0) earned the win Saturday against the Athletics, striking out two while allowing one hit, one walk and one unearned run over two innings.
Vasquez entered the game with the score tied in the bottom of the 10th and intentionally walked Esteury Ruiz to lead things off before needing just seven pitches to retire the next three batters. The lefty reliever returned in the 11th, this time with a one-run lead and proceeded to cough up the game-tying run on an RBI double from Carlos Perez. However, Kyle Schwarber came right back for Philadelphia in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single, giving the 29-year-old his second win of the season. Vasquez has struck out two in each of his last two appearances and lowered his ERA to 1.62 on the season with Saturday's effort.

The Phillies claimed Vasquez (ankle) off waivers from Toronto on Tuesday and optioned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
Before landing on the Blue Jays' 15-day injured list in early June due to a right ankle sprain, Vasquez posted an 8.10 ERA in 6.2 innings of relief for the Blue Jays. He's now healthy again after making three appearances during a minor-league rehab assignment, but the Blue Jays didn't have a spot for him on the 40-man roster. The 28-year-old will find a new home in Philadelphia, but he'll first have to prove himself at Triple-A before getting a call back to the majors.

Vasquez started up his rehab assignment last weekend in the rookie-level Florida Complex League before moving up to the Blue Jays' top affiliate. Blue Jays' Andrew Vasquez: Exits with apparent injury
Vasquez exited Wednesday's game against the Royals in the bottom of the eighth inning with an apparent ankle injury, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Velasquez rolled his ankle on first base with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning and had to be helped off the field. Prior to the southpaw's departure, he threw five pitches (four strikes) in two-thirds of a perfect inning. It's not yet clear whether his injury will require a trip to the IL.
