  • Giants' Darien Nunez: Shaky since return to action

Nunez (elbow) was activated from Triple-A Sacramento's 60-day injured list Aug. 8 and has allowed three runs with a 3:3 K:BB over four innings since his return. Nunez spent much of July into August on a rehab assignment as he worked back from Tommy John surgery. The southpaw last pitched in the majors with the Dodgers in 2021, posting an 8.22 ERA and 1.57 WHIP over 7.2 innings. Nunez could eventually be an option for the Giants' big-league bullpen if he can steady his numbers in the coming weeks.

  • Giants' Darien Nunez: Rehabbing from Tommy John surgery

Nunez (elbow) began a rehab assignment July 13 and has compiled a 4.82 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 15:4 K:BB in 9.1 innings over seven appearances between the rookie-level Arizona Complex League and Single-A San Jose. Nunez remains on Triple-A Sacramento's 60-day injured list but looks to be on the cusp of activation while his 30-day rehab window nears its end. The 30-year-old southpaw hasn't pitched for Sacramento this season while he's continued his recovery from the Tommy John surgery procedure he underwent in April 2022.

  • Giants' Darien Nunez: Re-signs with Giants

Nunez (elbow) agreed to a minor-league contract with the Giants on Wednesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Nunez was previously released by the Giants last week, but his re-signing with the organization just a few days later suggests the prior transaction may have been procedural. Regardless, Nunez won't be in line to make his organizational debut until at least next summer, as he underwent Tommy John surgery April 27.

  • Darien Nunez: Released by Giants

Nunez (elbow) was released by the Giants on Friday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. He was designated for assignment by the Dodgers less than a week ago after it was reported that he needed Tommy John surgery, so it's been a rough week for the 29-year-old lefty.

  • Giants' Darien Nunez: Set to join Giants

Nunez (elbow) agreed to a minor-league contract with the Giants on Tuesday, baseball journalist Francys Romero reports. After Nunez was diagnosed last week with ligament damage to his left elbow that required season-ending Tommy John surgery, the Dodgers designated him for assignment Sunday and released him a day later after he cleared waivers. The southpaw underwent the procedure Tuesday and struck a deal with the Giants soon after, allowing him to have his rehab program overseen by the team. The Giants will presumably see how Nunez progresses over the next several months before determining whether to keep him in the organization heading into spring training.

  • Dodgers' Darien Nunez: DFA'd by Dodgers

Nunez (elbow) was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on Sunday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Nunez is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery and has now been removed from Los Angeles' 40-man roster. The 29-year-old lefty will miss the rest of the season while recovering from the procedure, and he's also likely to be out for the first couple months of the 2023 campaign.

  • Dodgers' Darien Nunez: Sent back to Triple-A

Nunez was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday. Nunez's latest stint in the big-league bullpen lasted just one day. It didn't go the way the lefty would have imagined, as he allowed a run and blew a save in a 1.1-inning relief appearance. Luke Raley was recalled in a corresponding move.

  • Dodgers' Darien Nunez: Charged with blown save Friday

Nunez was tagged with a blown save in Friday's loss to the Rockies, working 1.1 innings and allowing one run one two hits and one walk while striking out one. The left-hander was called in from the bullpen with a runner on second and two outs in the eighth inning. He was unable to protect Los Angeles' one-run lead, as Ryan McMahon's single plated Charlie Blackmon to tie the score. Nunez went on to pitch in the ninth frame and gave up another run, this time on a Sam Hilliard homer. The rookie reliever has had a tough time putting batters away thus far, allowing at least one earned run in four of his five appearances. He has been stung for three long balls across 7.1 innings and holds an unappealing 6.14 ERA with the big club.

Nunez was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports. Nunez was sent down Wednesday, but he'll return to the major-league bullpen after only a couple days. The southpaw has posted a 6.00 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in six innings across four appearances (one start) with the Dodgers this year. Left-hander Garrett Cleavinger was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding move.

Nunez will serve as the opener for Tuesday's game against the Giants, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports. Nunez will pitch ahead of Josiah Gray, who will be making his major-league debut as the club's bulk reliever. The southpaw will likely log just one or two innings before departing.
