  • Orioles' Cade Povich: Lands on IL with hip injury

The Orioles placed Povich on the 15-day injured list Monday with left hip inflammation. Povich registered a win in bulk relief Sunday against the Angels but evidently came out of the appearance with a hip injury. The Orioles have not announced who will be taking Povich's spot in the rotation, but Trevor Rogers is a logical choice.

  • Orioles' Cade Povich: Earns win in bulk role

Povich (2-5) earned the win Sunday over the Angels, allowing three hits and a walk over 3.2 scoreless innings. He struck out four. After Scott Blewett gave up two runs in the first 2.2 innings, Povich settled things down in his first appearance out of the bullpen this season en route to his first win since April 24. It was an encouraging effort from the left-hander, after he'd given up 12 runs over 14.2 innings in his previous three starts. Overall, Povich sports a 5.15 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP and 68:23 K:BB across 64.2 innings this season. It seems likely that Povich will work behind an opener again in his next appearance, tentatively lined up for next week against the Yankees, following the positive result Sunday.

  • Orioles' Cade Povich: Likely to follow opener Sunday

Povich is expected to work in bulk relief behind opening pitcher Scott Blewett in Sunday's game against the Angels, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. Povich was initially penciled in to start Sunday, but he's given up 12 runs in his past three starts, and the Orioles will instead utilize an opener with the hope that it yields better results. Baltimore hasn't officially announced their pitching plans for Sunday after Blewett exits the game, but Povich is still a strong bet to pitch.

  • Orioles' Cade Povich: Mauled by Tigers

Povich (1-5) took the loss Tuesday, coughing up five runs on nine hits and a walk over 4.2 innings as Baltimore fell 5-3 to Detroit. Five of the nine hits off the southpaw went for extra bases, including a two-run shot by Spencer Torkelson in the fifth inning and a pair of Zach McKinstry triples. Povich has been tagged for five runs in three of his last six starts, stumbling to a 5.74 ERA and 1.40 WHIP over that stretch despite a sharp 39:10 K:BB in 31.1 innings. He'll look for his first win since April 24 in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home this weekend against the Angels.

  • Orioles' Cade Povich: Yields two runs to Seattle

Povich didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Mariners, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk with five strikeouts over 5.1 innings. Povich failed to complete six innings for a fourth consecutive start. However, the left-hander bounced back from a poor outing last time out against the Cardinals and didn't allow a long ball for the second time in his past six starts. On the year, Povich owns a 5.11 ERA and a 58:21 K:BB over 56.1 innings. He is tentatively scheduled to face the Tigers next time out.

  • Orioles' Cade Povich: Mixed results in loss

Povich (1-4) took the loss against the Cardinals on Wednesday, allowing five runs on eight hits and three walks with nine strikeouts over 4.2 innings. Povich opened with three scoreless frames before allowing five runs across the fourth and fifth innings. The southpaw matched a season high with nine strikeouts but struggled with his command, throwing just 56 of 96 pitches for strikes and allowing nine hard-hit balls. He'll carry a 5.29 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 53:20 K:BB across 51 innings into a road matchup with the Mariners next week.

  • Orioles' Cade Povich: Orioles-Red Sox postponed

Povich and the Orioles won't play the Red Sox as scheduled Thursday, as the game was postponed due to rain. The two clubs will make up Thursday's contest during a doubleheader Friday, and Povich will start the earlier of the two games, per Jake Rill of MLB.com. The 25-year-old lefty has already faced the Red Sox once this season, giving up three earned runs and punching out eight batters in 4.1 innings during his season debut March 31.

  • Orioles' Cade Povich: Twins-Orioles game postponed

Povich's next start will be pushed back after Tuesday's game against the Twins was postponed due to rain. The game will be made up as part of a traditional doubleheader Wednesday. Povich will presumably take the ball in one of those contests.

  • Orioles' Cade Povich: Yields five runs in third frame

Povich (1-3) took the loss against Minnesota on Tuesday, allowing five runs on six hits while striking out four over six innings. He did not issue a walk. Povich faced the minimum number of batters through the first two innings, but he got roughed up for five runs in the third, highlighted by a two-run homer by Carlos Correa. Povich went on to retire the next the next nine batters he faced and finished with 10 whiffs on 103 pitches (63 strikes), but he couldn't avoid the loss as the Twins' offense was limited to one run. It's the second time the 25-year-old southpaw has given up at least five runs in a start this season, and he's up to a 5.55 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 29:12 over 35.2 innings. Povich is slated to start against the Angels on the road this weekend.

  • Orioles' Cade Povich: Gives up seven runs in loss

Povich (0-2) took the loss Friday against the Reds, allowing seven runs on six hits and five walks while striking out four across 3.1 innings. Povich had trouble keeping the ball in yard, as three home runs accounted for all seven runs against him, including a three-run shot by Matt McLain in the fourth inning that gave the Reds a six-run lead. Povich gave up more runs in Friday's loss than he had across his three prior outings (six), and he wasn't able to get through the fourth inning despite tossing 84 pitches (48 strikes). He'll look to bounce back in his next start, tentatively slated for next week on the road against the Nationals.

  • Orioles' Cade Povich: Allows two runs in no-decision

Povich did not factor into the decision in Sunday's 7-6 extra-inning loss to the Blue Jays, allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk with two strikeouts over 4.2 innings. Povich delivered a solid outing on the surface, but he induced just four whiffs and was pulled with two runners on in the fifth inning at only 76 pitches. The 25-year-old has been a mixed bag, yielding three earned runs or fewer in all three of his starts but failing to complete the fifth frame twice. He owns a 3.60 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 14:3 K:BB across 15 innings on the year and lines up to face the Reds next weekend.

  • Orioles' Cade Povich: Stakes claim for last rotation spot

Povich picked up the win after throwing five hitless innings with three walks in Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Blue Jays. He struck out six. Battling with Albert Suarez for Baltimore's final rotation spot in Grayson Rodriguez's (elbow) stead, Povich dazzled against Toronto's regular lineup to stake his claim to open the season as a starter. Although the 24-year-old left-hander stumbled with five runs allowed in last Friday's Grapefruit League start, Povich carries a 3.07 ERA and 0.89 WHIP with 15 strikeouts over 14.2 innings this spring, including three scoreless outings. Povich acknowledged after Tuesday's game that it could have been his last spring appearance, per Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com, but the aforementioned Suarez is scheduled to start Friday's exhibition contest against the Tigers for his final audition before the Orioles decide on their fifth starter.

  • Orioles' Cade Povich: Falters in fifth inning

Povich took the loss in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Blue Jays after giving up five runs on eight hits over 4.2 innings. He struck out two. Although his final stat line leaves a lot to be desired, Povich had allowed a lone run through four innings before getting knocked around for four runs in the fifth frame. The 24-year-old left-hander is competing with Albert Suarez for Baltimore's final rotation spot in the wake of Grayson Rodriguez's elbow injury, but manager Brandon Hyde said prior to Thursday's game that Povich wasn't entering a "make-or-break" start, per Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com. Povich, who now holds a 4.66 ERA and 1.03 WHIP with nine strikeouts across 9.2 innings this spring, will likely get at least one more start in the Grapefruit League before the Orioles make a rotation decision.

  • Orioles' Cade Povich: Positioned as No. 7 starter

Manager Brandon Hyde said Saturday that Povich is currently considered the Orioles' seventh starting pitcher, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. Assuming everyone stays healthy throughout spring training, Baltimore's five-man rotation of Zach Eflin, Grayson Rodriguez, Charlie Morton, Dean Kremer and Tomoyuki Sugano is set, while Hyde labeled Albert Suarez as the No. 6 starter. Povich appears poised to begin the campaign at Triple-A Norfolk, but he's off to a strong start in spring training with seven strikeouts over five scoreless innings through two starts. The left-hander made 16 starts for Baltimore as a rookie last year and had a 5.20 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 69:34 K:BB across 79.2 innings, and it's likely just a matter of time before he receives another look in 2025.

  • Orioles' Cade Povich: Clinches playoff spot for O's

Povich (3-9) picked up the win Friday, allowing two hits and a walk over 5.2 scoreless innings in a 7-2 victory over the Twins. He struck out two. The rookie southpaw fired 57 of 79 pitches for strikes, falling just short of his fourth career quality start, as he helped the Orioles clinch a wild-card spot. Povich put together an impressive September to close out his first season in the majors, posting a 2.60 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 32:8 K:BB through 27.2 innings over five outings, but it's not yet clear how Baltimore plans to deploy the 24-year-old in the playoffs.

  • Orioles' Cade Povich: Another poor outing

Povich (1-7) took the loss against the Dodgers on Thursday, allowing five runs on 10 hits and one walk over 3.1 innings while striking out three. Povich got knocked around early and often, allowing at least two hits in each of his four innings. The southpaw generated just four whiffs over that stretch while allowing five runs for the second consecutive start. Povich has now lost his last five decisions, allowing three or more runs in five of six outings over that stretch. He'll finish up the month of August with a 7.36 ERA to go along with a 12:3 K:BB.

  • Orioles' Cade Povich: Drawing start Friday

Povich is scheduled to start Friday's game against the Astros at Camden Yards, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports. The Orioles recalled Povich from Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday as a replacement on the 26-man roster and in the rotation for Zach Eflin (shoulder), who was placed on the injured list. Povich has been largely ineffective over his nine starts with the big club this season (5.77 ERA, 1.68 WHIP, 4.0 K-BB% in 43.2 innings), but he delivered one of his better performances in his most recent outing with Baltimore this past Saturday. Though he was handed a loss against the Red Sox, he held a potent lineup to two runs on six hits and no walks while striking out six batters over a career-high 6.1 innings.

  • Orioles' Cade Povich: Recalled ahead of start

The Orioles recalled Povich from Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday ahead of his start against the Red Sox. Povich has a 3.86 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 11 strikeouts in 14 innings over two starts for Norfolk since last getting optioned July 29. While the 24-year-old lefty has been largely successful this season in the highest level of the minors (3.48 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 89 strikeouts in 77.2 innings), he has been overmatched against big-league hitters, logging a 14.3 percent strikeout rate and 13.1 percent walk rate in 37.1 innings. With Albert Suarez expected to start Sunday, Povich may be optioned back to Triple-A after this start.

  • Orioles' Cade Povich: Will start Saturday versus Boston

The Orioles will recall Povich from Triple-A Norfolk to start Saturday's game against the Red Sox, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports. Povich will be added to the taxi squad Friday before officially joining the active roster Saturday. Albert Suarez had been in line to start Saturday, but the club could be moving him back to the bullpen. Povich has mostly struggled in his eight starts with Baltimore, posting a 6.27 ERA and 25:23 K:BB over 37.1 innings. However, the lefty has gone seven innings in both of his last two starts for Norfolk.

  • Orioles' Cade Povich: Confirmed to start Monday

The Orioles recalled Povich from Triple-A Norfolk to start the second game of Monday's doubleheader with the Blue Jays, Danielle Allentuck of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports. The left-hander has offered uneven results in his first seven starts this season for the Orioles, putting up a 6.27 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 24:18 K:BB over 33 innings. Povich will technically be the 27th man for the doubleheader and is likely to be optioned back to Norfolk after the spot start.
