Casey cleared waivers and was assigned to Triple-A Rochester by the Nationals on Thursday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Casey was designated for assignment by Washington earlier this week but will remain in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. The 26-year-old has a .219/.283/.364 slash line with six home runs, 24 RBI and six stolen bases in 67 games at Triple-A this year.... See More ... See Less

Nationals' Donovan Casey: Exits 40-man roster
The Nationals designated Casey for assignment Tuesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Casey, who was one of four prospects the Nationals acquired last summer in the deal that sent Trea Turner and Max Scherzer to the Dodgers, was bumped off the 40-man roster to clear a spot for veteran reliever Jake McGee, whom the team claimed off waivers from the Brewers. The Nationals' decision to designate Casey for assignment comes after the 26-year-old outfielder failed to make a case for a promotion to the big leagues this season. He's produced a paltry .647 OPS while striking out in 32.5 percent of his plate appearances at Triple-A Rochester in 2022.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Donovan Casey: Sent down Wednesday
Casey was optioned to Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday. Casey spent just under a week with the major-league club but didn't appear in any games for the Nationals. He'll head back to Rochester, where he hit .250 with a home run, two triples, two doubles, six RBI and four runs in six appearances to begin the season.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Donovan Casey: Slated to join major-league club
Casey will be recalled by the Nationals on Thursday, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports. It's not yet clear whether Casey will be able to join the team ahead of Thursday's game against the Pirates. However, he'll provide outfield depth for the major-league club after he hit .250 with a home run, two triples, two doubles, six RBI and four runs in six games at Triple-A Rochester to begin the year.... Nationals' Donovan Casey: Back in MiLB camp
The Nationals optioned Casey to Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Following his acquisition last July in the deal that sent Trea Turner and Max Scherzer to the Dodgers, Casey struggled in his initial exposure to the Triple-A level. Over 147 plate appearances at Rochester, Casey struggled to the tune of a .179/.245/.291 slash line while striking out 38.8 percent of the time. The Nationals will likely want to see Casey have some success at the Triple-A level before potentially giving him the chance to make his MLB debut later in 2022.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Donovan Casey: Joins 40-man roster
Casey was added to the Nationals' 40-man roster Friday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. The move prevents the Nationals from losing Casey in the Rule 5 draft, but it probably doesn't mean he's being considered for a spot on the Opening Day roster. He looked good in 85 games at the Double-A level on either side of a trade from the Dodgers, hitting .303/.361/.483 with 14 homers and 17 steals, but he stumbled to a .179/.245/.291 line in 38 games upon a promotion to Triple-A Rochester. He needs to conquer that level before making a push for his big-league debut.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Donovan Casey: Dealt to Nationals
Casey will be traded from the Dodgers to the Nationals on Thursday, along with Keibert Ruiz, Josiah Gray and Gerardo Carrillo, in exchange for Trea Turner (COVID-19) and Max Scherzer. Casey is a 25-year-old prospect who had been with Double-A Tulsa prior to being traded. He hit .296/.362/.462 across 334 plate appearances, though that line is less impressive when considering his age as compared to his minors level.... See More ... See Less
