White Sox's Luis Robert: Trending toward six-week absence

White Sox general manager Chris Getz said Friday that Robert (hip) is trending toward a six-week absence, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.
It's good news, as that's the shorter end of the 6-to-8 week timeline that had been provided when Robert went down with a Grade 2 right hip flexor strain. The White Sox have not put Robert on the 60-day injured list and it sounds like it might not be necessary for them to do so. Dominic Fletcher has been seeing the bulk of the starts in center field for Chicago since Robert was hurt.
Robert was diagnosed Monday with a Grade 2 right hip flexor strain and is expected to be sidelined for 6-to-8 weeks, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Robert suffered this past Friday while running the bases and was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday. He dealt with a Grade 3 right hip flexor strain back in 2021 and wound up being sidelined for nearly three and a half months. Dominic Fletcher has shifted over to center field for the White Sox to accommodate for the loss of Robert, while Kevin Pillar and Robbie Grossman should see increases in playing time in right field. The club could also eventually decide to call up Oscar Colas from Triple-A Charlotte to handle an everyday role in the outfield.

Imaging confirmed that Robert sustained a Grade 2 right hip flexor strain while running the bases in the ninth inning of Friday's loss to the Royals, per James Fegan of SoxMachine.com. It's in a similar location to his tear from 2021. With Robert likely facing an extended stint on the IL, the White Sox recalled infielder Lenyn Sosa from Triple-A Charlotte.

Robert was removed from Friday's game against the Royals with an apparent right leg injury, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Robert came up limping after hitting a double in the ninth inning of Friday's contest, and he was reluctant to put any weight on his right leg as he hopped toward second base. Losing the 26-year-old slugger would be a huge blow to a White Sox lineup that is already struggling to begin the year and just placed Eloy Jimenez (thigh) on the IL.

Robert went 3-for-4 with a walk, two home runs and four RBI in Saturday's 7-6 extra-inning loss to the Tigers.
The 26-year-old outfielder teed off against Kenta Maeda, belting a two-run homer in the first and third innings to help stake the White Sox to an early lead that the bullpen couldn't protect. Robert cranked out a career-high 38 homers and stole 20 bases in 2023 while slashing .264/.315/.542, but that was also the first season in which he played more than 98 games for Chicago. His ability to stay healthy will likely be the biggest factor in determining whether he can repeat that performance.
