Cabrera will start in right field and bat sixth in Monday's game against the Diamondbacks. Cabrera will be making his 12th consecutive start Monday, with the 24-year-old having bounced between both corner-outfield spots during that time. Most of those starts have come while Everson Pereira was nursing a hamstring injury, but Cabrera will end up replacing a resting Giancarlo Stanton in the lineup Monday while Pereira returns to the lineup for his first start since Sept. 14. Dating back to Sept. 10, Cabrera is slashing .295/.367/.432 over a stretch of 12 games, so look for the Yankees to find ways to keep his hot bat in the lineup over the final week of the season.... Yankees' Oswaldo Cabrera: Continues to show improvement
Cabrera went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 6-3 win against Pittsburgh. Cabrera had a five-game hitting streak on the line when he stepped to the plate in the eighth inning, and he was able to extend it to six with a solo blast to right field. The 24-year-old has lifted his season average 14 points during the streak, with three of his eight knocks over that span going for extra bases. Cabrera is still slashing a paltry .221/.295/.321 overall, but he's at least making a good late-season impression.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Oswaldo Cabrera: On bench Sunday
Cabrera is not in the lineup Sunday against the Brewers. Everson Pereira, Jasson Dominguez and Aaron Judge will start across the outfield for the Yankees as they take on right-hander Corbin Burnes. Cabrera, 24, has slashed just .219/.324/.219 in 37 plate appearances since being recalled Aug. 3 from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Oswaldo Cabrera: Recalled from Triple-A
The Yankees recalled Cabrera from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday. Cabrera is filling the 26-man roster spot left vacant by Anthony Rizzo, who has landed on the 10-day injured list with post-concussion syndrome. Cabrera, 24, carries a brutal .205/.266/.308 slash line through 215 plate appearances this season at the major-league level.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Oswaldo Cabrera: Optioned to Triple-A
The Yankees optioned Cabrera to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday. Cabrera went 0-for-3 with a strikeout Saturday versus the Royals and is batting just .205 with a .574 OPS in 215 plate appearances this season at the major-league level. Greg Allen (hip) or Jake Bauers (shoulder) could fill the vacant roster spot Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Oswaldo Cabrera: Sitting Friday
Cabrera will sit Friday against Kansas City. Cabrera will get a breather after he went 1-for-7 with a double, two RBI, a walk and five strikeouts while starting twice during a series with the Angels. Franchy Cordero will take over in left field and bat fifth in the series opener with the Royals.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Oswaldo Cabrera: Gets aboard four times
Cabrera went 2-for-3 with a pair of walks, one RBI, a stolen base and one run scored in Sunday's 8-7 extra-innings loss to the Rockies. Cabrera's playing time has been sparse since he returned to the Yankees' roster June 22. He's posted a pair of multi-hit efforts, but he's logged just 17 at-bats over 16 contests in that span. The utility man is at a .211/.271/.314 slash line with four home runs, 20 RBI, 26 runs scored and six stolen bases through 204 plate appearances overall.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Oswaldo Cabrera: Back with big club
Cabrera was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports. Willie Calhoun (quad) is expected to be placed on the 10-day injured list, so Cabrera will take on a utility role in the short term. It's only been four days since Cabrera was optioned to Triple-A for the first time this season after posting a disappointing .190/.238/.298 slash line with four home runs and five steals in 60 games.... Yankees' Oswaldo Cabrera: Sent down Sunday
Cabrera was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday. Cabrera served in a depth role for the Yankees over the past few weeks, and he's hit .190 with four homers, 19 runs, 18 RBI and five stolen bases over 60 games in the majors this year. However, he'll head to the minors since Harrison Bader (hamstring) is expected to be reinstated from the injured list Tuesday.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Oswaldo Cabrera: Homers in return
Cabrera homered in his only at-bat during a 6-3 victory against the Dodgers on Saturday. Cabrera was called up prior to the contest following a brief stay with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He came up as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning and put the icing on the cake of a Yankees win with a 404-foot solo blast. Cabrera had been in a 4-for-36 slide prior to being demoted Thursday, so this was a much-needed big hit. He could see some opportunities in center field with Harrison Bader (hamstring) and Greg Allen (hip) both on the IL, though Isiah Kiner-Falefa got the start there Saturday.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Oswaldo Cabrera: Option imminent
The Yankees will option Cabrera to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre prior to the weekend series against the Dodgers, Jack Curry of YES Network reports. As the Yankees prepare to reinstate Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring), Josh Donaldson (hamstring) and Tommy Kahnle (biceps) from the injured list, Cabrera will reportedly be one of the players headed to Triple-A as a result. Cabrera had been an everyday starter for the Yankees before a lengthy slump at the plate demoted him to a utility role, and he's hitting just .195 on the season over 154 major-league at-bats. He will likely have to rediscover his swing in the minors before the Yankees allow him back on the major-league roster.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Oswaldo Cabrera: Three hits, homer in loss
Cabrera went 3-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's loss against Tampa Bay. Cabrera got the Yankees on the board with a two-run shot off Zach Eflin in the third inning, his third homer of the year and second in six games. Cabrera has been swinging the bat well, going 5-for-9 in his last three games. He's slashing .220/.260/.339 with 15 RBI, 13 runs scored and five stolen bases through 128 plate appearances. Cabrera has played a fairly regular role in New York while Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring) has been out.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Oswaldo Cabrera: Not in lineup
Cabrera will sit Saturday against the Rays. Cabrera finds himself on the bench for the second time in three games. With a .196/.240/.295 slash line on the season, he hasn't made a strong case for everyday at-bats. Isiah Kiner-Falefa -- who owns an even worse .187/.238/.213 line -- will make his third start in four games in left field.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Oswaldo Cabrera: Sitting Thursday
Cabrera is not in the starting lineup Thursday versus the Rays. Cabrera will get a breather after he went 1-for-10 with a two-run home run, two runs scored, a walk and four strikeouts during the three-game series with the Athletics. Jake Bauers will take over for him in left field and bat sixth in the series opener with Tampa Bay.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Oswaldo Cabrera: Heads to bench Wednesday
Cabrera is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians. Cabrera will give way in left field to Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who will be manning a corner spot for the first time in the majors after playing each of his other 103 innings in the outfield this season in center. Though Cabrera still looks like the Yankees' preferred option in left for now, he's likely lost some job security after falling into a 3-for-28 slump at the dish over his last nine games.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Oswaldo Cabrera: Not in lineup Thursday
Cabrera is not in the lineup Thursday night against the Rangers. Aaron Hicks is in left field and batting ninth. Cabrera scored two runs Wednesday in the Yankees' win over the Twins, but he is slashing just .216/.244/.297 through 78 total plate appearances this year.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Oswaldo Cabrera: Sitting out Tuesday
Cabrera is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game in Minnesota, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports. Cabrera is just 3-for-29 at the dish over his last eight contests, so he'll get a day off to regroup. Aaron Hicks will start in left field Tuesday in place of Cabrera.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Oswaldo Cabrera: Hits first homer of season
Cabrera went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's 6-1 loss to the Blue Jays. Cabrera's first homer of the season was the only offense New York could muster against Toronto. Through 17 games (63 plate appearances), he is slashing .233/.254/.317 and has struck out 18 times, including five strikeouts and just two hits over his last five contests.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Oswaldo Cabrera: Big day against O's
Cabrera went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored, three RBI and a stolen base in Friday's 7-6 loss to the Orioles. His two-run double in the sixth inning gave the Yankees their only lead of the game, and Cabrera chipped in an RBI single in the eighth as well. The 24-year-old is having a strong start to the season, batting .368 (7-for-19) through six games, but Friday's RBI and steal were his first of the year.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' Oswaldo Cabrera: Starting in left field for opener
Cabrera is starting in left field and batting seventh for the Yankees in Thursday's opener versus the Giants. The Yankees are going with Aaron Judge in center field, Giancarlo Stanton in right field and Gleyber Torres in the designated hitter spot, which means Aaron Hicks is on the bench for the opener. Cabrera had a .741 OPS in his first taste of the big leagues last season and followed up with a .333/.382/.608 slash line during spring training.... See More ... See Less
