Orioles' Nick Vespi: Snags first win
Vespi (1-0) retired the only batter he faced to earn the extra-inning win over the Mariners on Sunday. Vespi kept the game tied at 3-3 after Mike Baumann allowed a tying home run to Dominic Canzone. The Orioles gained the lead in the top of the 10th inning, and Shintaro Fujinami logged a save to earn Vespi his first win of the season. Over 10.2 innings across seven appearances this year, Vespi has a 2.53 ERA, 1.03 WHIP And 7:2 K:BB. He'll likely continue to feature as a low-leverage left-hander for as long as he's in the major-league bullpen.... See More ... See Less -

Orioles' Nick Vespi: Optioned to Triple-A
Vespi was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports. Vespi has pitched well during his time in the majors this season, but he was needed for 2.1 innings of relief Monday so he probably wouldn't have been available for a day or two. Cionel Perez is back from the injured list to take his roster spot.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Nick Vespi: Recalled from Norfolk
The Orioles recalled Vespi from Triple-A Norfolk on Friday. With Keegan Akin (back) headed for the 15-day injured list, Vespi will give the Orioles another left-handed option out of the bullpen. The 27-year-old has been great in Triple-A this season with a 1.71 ERA and 1.00 WHIP through 26.1 frames, and he's capable of pitching multiple innings at a time.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Nick Vespi: Optioned to Triple-A
Vespi was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday. Vespi was recalled Friday and didn't pitch in that game before getting a quick ticket back to Norfolk. He has a 1.77 ERA and seven saves in 20.1 innings across 19 appearances out of the Triple-A bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Nick Vespi: Recalled from Triple-A

The Orioles optioned Vespi to Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday. Vespi joined the Orioles ahead of Friday's series opener with the Pirates but didn't appear out of the bullpen either of the past two days. He'll head back to the minors to open up a spot on the 26-man active roster for an extra infielder in Joey Ortiz, who was called up from Triple-A in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Nick Vespi: Recalled from Triple-A

It will be the first stint in the majors this year for Vespi, who posted a 4.10 ERA and 28:8 K:BB over 26.1 relief innings with the big club in 2022.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Nick Vespi: Sent down to Triple-A
Vespi was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk by the Orioles on Monday, Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reports. Vespi is just now returning from sports hernia surgery that he underwent in January, and the southpaw will need more time to get ready for the regular season. The 27-year-old will likely be an up-and-down option for Baltimore throughout the 2023 campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Nick Vespi: Set to pitch Monday
Vespi (abdomen) said he's scheduled to pitch in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox, Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Sun reports. The 27-year-old underwent sports hernia surgery in early January but is now in the final stages of his rehab program. Vespi's spring debut will be a good sign for his potential availability Opening Day, though he'll likely need to show he can pitch on back-to-back days before being fully cleared. He had a 4.10 ERA across 26.1 innings during his first taste of the majors in 2022, so he's hardly guaranteed to make the Opening Day roster even when healthy.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Nick Vespi: Sim game coming up
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Wednesday that Vespi (sports hernia) is slated to throw a simulated game next week, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. After Vespi threw a 35-pitch bullpen session last Friday, there had been some hope that he would be cleared to face hitters this week, but the Orioles will instead continue to take things slowly with the lefty reliever for a few more days. With the Orioles providing no indication that he has suffered a setback in his recovery from the sports hernia surgery he underwent Jan. 5, Vespi still looks on pace to get fully ramped up by the time Opening Day arrives. However, since Vespi doesn't have an extensive track record in the majors and still has two minor-league options remaining, it wouldn't be surprising if the Orioles optioned him to Triple-A Norfolk before heading north for the start of the regular season.... Orioles' Nick Vespi: Nearing game action
Vespi (abdomen) threw 35 pitches in a bullpen session Friday and appears set to advance to facing hitters next week, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Vespi mixed in all of his pitches during Friday's bullpen session. "I'm right where I need to be," he said. "Everything feels great. My arm feels great, my body feels great. I'm ready to go." Despite the delayed start this year, Vespi is still in contention for a bullpen spot, as he should have at least a couple of Grapefruit League appearances before the regular season begins. It'll likely come down to his performance in those games that determines if he begins the campaign with the Orioles or at Triple-A Norfolk.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Nick Vespi: Tosses first post-surgery bullpen
Vespi (sports hernia) completed a fastball-only bullpen session Tuesday consisting of 20-to-25 pitches, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. The bullpen session marked Vespi's first mound work since he underwent surgery Jan. 5 to address a sports hernia. Though the reliever isn't expected to be available for the early part of the Orioles' Grapefruit League schedule while he advances through a throwing progression, both Vespi and manager Brandon Hyde have reiterated that they expect the 27-year-old southpaw will be ready to go for Opening Day.... Orioles' Nick Vespi: Looking good for Opening Day
Vespi (abdomen) expects to be ready for Opening Day, Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Sun reports. Vespi underwent sports hernia surgery in early January, and he appears to be progressing well. Recovery from the procedure will prevent him from pitching for Italy in the World Baseball Classic, but he doesn't expect to be limited beyond that.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Nick Vespi: Joins O's for twin bill
The Orioles recalled Vespi from Triple-A Norfolk and designated him as their 29th man for Wednesday's doubleheader with the Blue Jays, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. Vespi will give the Orioles some extra coverage out of the bullpen as the team wraps up its season with a twin bill. In 24 relief appearances with Baltimore on the season, the 26-year-old rookie owns a 4.21 ERA and 1.36 WHIP across 25.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Nick Vespi: Optioned to Triple-A
Vespi was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday. Vespi pitched each of the last three days, so the Orioles decided to send him down and replace him with a fresh arm. Vespi has appeared in 24 games with the Orioles this season, so chances are he will be back with the big club before the campaign comes to a close.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Nick Vespi: Awarded win Friday
Vespi (5-0) allowed a run on three hits in one inning but collected the win Friday over the Red Sox. He did not walk or strike out a batter. Vespi was promoted to the majors earlier Friday and immediately got into a game. He was awarded the win after Keegan Akin allowed five unearned runs during a sloppy fifth inning. Vespi has been an effective middle reliever this year with a 4.22 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 24:8 K:BB across 21.1 innings while adding a save, a hold and a blown save. With the strength of the Orioles' bullpen, there's little chance Vespi moves into a high-leverage role during this stint on the big-league roster.... See More ... See Less
