White was promoted to Single-A Bradenton on Tuesday. White was sidelined for the first two months of the season with a thumb injury, but he has been back in action across the last month. He stuck around in rookie ball for a total of 76 plate appearances and managed a .317/.434/.444 line before his promotion. The 20-year-old will face a more significant challenge with Bradenton and is likely to stick at the level for the rest of the campaign.... See More ... See Less

Pirates' Lonnie White: Activated, stays in FCL
White (thumb) was reinstated from Triple-A Indianapolis' 60-day injured list Monday and assigned to the rookie-level Florida Complex League. Though White opened the season on Indianapolis' IL, he was never a serious candidate to join the Pirates' top affiliate when healthy, given that he's yet to even debut at the Single-A level. He should eventually make his way to Single-A Bradenton later this summer, but for now, the Pirates want the outfield prospect to get some steady playing time in the FCL now that he's healthy again. Since making a full recovery from left thumb surgery and beginning a rehab assignment in the FCL on June 5, White is slashing .327/.413/.455 with a home run and five stolen bases over 63 plate appearances in rookie ball.... Pirates' Lonnie White: Rehabbing in FCL
White (thumb) began a rehab assignment June 5 with the Pirates' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate and has gone 7-for-37 (.189 average) with a 5:16 BB:K through nine games. White remains on Single-A Bradenton's 60-day injured list after he underwent surgery on his left thumb in late March, but he looks to be on the cusp of his full-season debut now that he's gotten some reps under his belt in the FCL. The 64th overall pick of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft has played in just 20 total games during his young professional career while tending to multiple injuries.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Lonnie White: Opens on 60-day IL
Triple-A Indianapolis lists White (thumb) on its 60-day injured list. White is likely on the Triple-A roster for procedural purposes, as he has yet to play above the rookie-ball level and is expected to be assigned to Single-A Bradenton once he makes a full recovery from the left thumb surgery he underwent in March. His placement on the 60-day IL ensures he'll miss at least the first two months of the minor-league season.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Lonnie White: On mend from thumb surgery
White is expected to sidelined for 7-to-9 weeks after recently undergoing surgery on his left thumb, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports. White apparently suffered the thumb injury while sliding into second base during a recent minor-league game on the back fields at the Pirates' spring training camp. Following his surgery, White doesn't look like he'll be ready to make his 2023 debut in the minors until at least early June. The thumb injury is yet another setback on the health front during White's brief professional career, as the 64th overall pick in the 2021 First-Year Player Draft also missed considerable time in 2022 with UCL and hamstring injuries.... Pirates' Lonnie White: Clean bill of health for spring
White (elbow/hamstring) isn't expected to face any restrictions during minor-league spring training, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports. The 64th overall pick of the 2021 first-year player draft, White has thus far played just nine career games in the minor leagues. He missed most of the 2022 campaign while recovering from a UCL injury to his elbow as well as the hamstring injury, but he appears to have made a full recovery over the offseason. Expect the 20-year-old outfielder to open the 2023 campaign at Single-A Bradenton.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Lonnie White: Shut down with UCL injury
Single-A Bradenton placed White on the 7-day injured list Wednesday with a UCL injury, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports. After posting an .851 OPS over 33 plate appearances at the rookie-ball level in 2021, White will have to wait a little longer to make his 2022 debut while he contends with the elbow injury. The severity of the injury isn't yet known.... See More ... See Less

Alex Stumpf@AlexJStumpf2H agoIt's safe to say the Internet wants the Pirates to be more aggressive at the plate. So does Andy Haines. I talked to the Pirates' hitting coach about the team's struggles of late, and what the messaging/work process is to try to get the offense going. https://t.co/Bc1opsSN6t

Jason Mackey@JMackeyPG6H agoThe Pirates are teetering. It’s hard to make a baseball season about one series or homestand, especially in May. But they also need to get right fast. My column: https://t.co/Ft8fEFb4Gx

Jason Mackey@JMackeyPG16H agoWhen hired, Pirates' new regime talked about being player-centric, avoiding one-size-fits-all approaches. What happened? Offensively, it's seeing pitches, working walks & big on swing mechanics. Hard to see how that helps naturally aggressive & more feel-centric hitters.

Jason Mackey@JMackeyPG17H agoPirates started 20-8 last year. Proceeded to go 5-16. Were 25-24 after 49 GP. This year, started 9-2. In the middle of another 5-16 skid. Currently 14-18. Then again, they had two 5-17 stretches in '22. So much for shortening long losing periods.

Alex Stumpf@AlexJStumpf18H ago“We’re never trying to take a pitch over the heart of the strike zone. … We’re trying to hammer the stuff over the middle of the plate and take the best swing at it.” I talked to Andy Haines about the Pirates’ hitting struggles and his messaging/approach https://t.co/Bc1opsSN6t

Jason Mackey@JMackeyPG21H agoMaybe the Pirates can just call up Paul Skenes -- have not heard anything, otherwise I would report it -- and have him DH on the days he doesn't start. (Kidding, sorta) Remember this: https://t.co/5Qd3PKm0yw

Jason Mackey@JMackeyPG21H agoUnreal. Pirates have now lost 16 of their last 21. Their run differential in that time: -41.

Alex Stumpf@AlexJStumpf21H agoThat's game. A's 4, Pirates 0. The offense had a chance to tie or take the lead in the seventh and eighth, but they couldn't produce. Quinn Priester allowed a couple of solo HR, but turns in a quality start. Pirates are swept by A's and go 1-5 on west coast trip. They are 14-18
