  • Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Belts big long ball

Goodman went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run Thursday in a 10-9 victory versus San Diego.

Goodman's eighth-inning, three-run blast was enormous not only in terms of distance (it traveled an estimated 448 feet) but also in terms of impact, as it brought the Rockies to within two runs in what was to become a successful late comeback. The homer was Goodman's first hit in six at-bats since being promoted from Triple-A on Wednesday. The 2021 fourth-round draft pick had seven long balls through 91 plate appearances in the minors prior to the call-up and knocked 34 home runs over 106 minor-league contests last year, so his potential for big-league power is intriguing, especially given his home field.

  • Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Promoted by Colorado

The Rockies recalled Goodman from Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday.

Goodman has crushed the ball at Albuqueque this season, slashing .298/.352/.690 with seven home runs and 10 doubles over 20 games. The 24-year-old managed just a .632 OPS in 23 games with the big club last season but has put up big power numbers throughout the minors. It's not clear how much playing time the Rockies plan to give Goodman, but he is worth a speculative add in deeper leagues in hopes that he gets regular reps in right field and/or at first base.

  • Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Sent to minor-league camp

The Rockies optioned Goodman to Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old had a .633 OPS over 23 games in his first taste of the majors last season, and it appears he won't have a spot on the Opening Day roster this year. Goodman hit .371 with nine homers in 15 games after making his way to the Triple-A level last season, and he should receive another chance for Colorado before long if he gets off to a hot start in 2024.

  • Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Roster spot in jeopardy

Goodman is not currently projected to make the Rockies' Opening Day roster, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Goodman has reportedly been chasing Sean Bouchard for a roster spot all spring training, and the Rockies' recent addition of Sam Hilliard further hurts his cause. Goodman had a productive big-league debut in 2023, racking up 17 RBI across 77 plate appearances. However, he also had a 31.2 percent strikeout rate in that span. His high rate of punchouts has carried over to this spring, as he has struck out eight times across 19 at-bats in the Cactus League.

  • Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Takes seat Thursday

Goodman is not in the lineup Thursday against the Dodgers.

Goodman got off to a hot start when he initially joined the Rockies' major-league roster in late August, but he's gone 1-for-26 with 12 strikeouts over his last nine games. Sean Bouchard is in right field Thursday.

  • Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Homers in high-scoring loss

Goodman went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and three RBI in Sunday's 11-10 loss to the Giants.

Goodman got the Rockies on the board with a two-run blast to left center and then plated his third run of the game with a sacrifice fly. Each of Goodman's last four hits have all gone for extra bases; however, that's come over a span of eight games, as he hasn't been hitting the ball particularly well. With nothing to lose, it's possible the Rockies give Goodman a longer look over the final two weeks of the season, though he's recently seen his playing time dip. The 23-year-old is slashing .250/.290/.482 with eight extra-base hits, 17 RBI, six runs and a 4:15 BB:K in 62 plate appearances.

  • Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Out of lineup Tuesday

Goodman is absent from the lineup Tuesday versus the Cubs.

This looks to be a routine day of rest for Goodman, who has produced a .302/.340/.535 batting line with 13 RBI through his first 13 major-league games. Nolan Jones is playing left field Tuesday as Elehuris Montero covers first base.

  • Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Remains productive

Goodman went 1-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored Friday against the Giants.

Goodman lined a pitch to center field in the second inning to tally his second career triple. He also has at least one hit in eight of his first 10 games in the majors, including five extra-base hits across 31 at-bats. Given that success, it's little surprise that the Rockies have found Goodman regular playing time, split evenly between first base and the outfield.

  • Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Wraps up strong homestand

Goodman went 2-for-3 with two doubles, a walk and three RBI on Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Goodman has drawn six starts in seven games since being called up, and he drew his first look in the outfield Sunday. He's given the Rockies no reason to take him out of the lineup, as he's gone 8-for-21 with three doubles, a triple and six RBI in his first taste of the majors. He'll head away from hitter-friendly Coors Field for the first time in a matchup Monday against Arizona, but Goodman should continue to see regular playing time to close out the season.

  • Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Quick start to big-league career

Goodman went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI on Monday against Atlanta.

Goodman was called up Sunday and has made a pair of starts at first base since. He's experienced quick success by collecting four hits across eight at-bats while also driving in two runs and scoring once. While clearly a small sample, Goodman did boast prolific production between Double-A Hartford and Triple-A Albuquerque earlier in the campaign by tallying 34 homers across 467 plate appearances.

  • Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Called up for MLB debut

Colorado selected Goodman's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. He'll start at first base and bat sixth in the Rockies' series finale in Baltimore, according to Saunders.

The Rockies released Jurickson Profar to clear room on the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster for Goodman, who should get the chance to play on a near-everyday basis while bouncing between first base, catcher, designated hitter and the corner-outfield spots. The 23-year-old was a fourth-round pick in the 2021 MLB Draft and had posted a stellar .919 OPS with 34 home runs and 111 RBI in 106 games this season between Double-A Hartford and Triple-A.
