Eder (shoulder) struck out three and allowed two earned runs on six hits and two walks across four innings Sunday in Double-A Birmingham's 8-2 win over Chattanooga. Eder threw 69 pitches (49 strikes) in his season debut for Birmingham, after he was unable to make any Cactus League appearances for the White Sox before being optioned to minor-league camp in early March while he contended with right shoulder soreness early in camp. The southpaw retains a spot on the White Sox's 40-man roster, and if health prevails in the months to come, he should have an opportunity to make his big-league debut later in the 2024 season.... White Sox's Jake Eder: Sent down to Double-A
Eder (shoulder) was optioned to Double-A Birmingham by the White Sox on Friday. Eder almost surely wasn't going to make the Opening Day roster anyway, but he's been sidelined recently with soreness in his right (non-throwing) shoulder. Acquired from the Marlins in the Jake Burger trade last year, Eder will be part of Birmingham's rotation once healthy.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Jake Eder: Has sore shoulder
Eder experienced soreness in his right shoulder Saturday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. Eder is slated for a side session Sunday, and the White Sox will determine next steps after he's thrown. The 25-year-old southpaw spent most of last season in Double-A, accumulating a 6.70 ERA and 1.70 WHIP across 47 innings.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Jake Eder: Joins 40-man roster
The White Sox selected Eder to their 40-man roster Tuesday, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports. Eder posted an ugly 6.35 ERA over 56.2 minor-league innings in 2023, but the White Sox acquired him from the Marlins in the Jake Burger trade and didn't want to lose the 25-year-old left-hander in the upcoming Rule 5 Draft.... White Sox's Jake Eder: Traded to Chicago for Burger
Eder was traded from the Marlins to the White Sox on Tuesday in exchange for Jake Burger, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports. Eder is coming off his best start of the year for Double-A Pensacola, in which he struck out 10 batters and allowed one earned run in 5.2 innings. He underwent Tommy John surgery in September 2021 and has a 3.94 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 38 strikeouts in 29.2 innings across six starts at Double-A, although his fastball velocity has been more in the low-90s, rather than his pre-surgery mid-90s fastball. Eder's best pitch is a plus slider, and improving his changeup and command will be of focus over the coming seasons. He could reach the majors sooner with the White Sox than he would have in Miami, given the depth of both organizations.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Jake Eder: Active at Double-A
Eder (foot) gave up three earned runs on four hits and three walks while striking out two over 4.1 innings in his first start for Double-A Pensacola. He showed similar rust (4.66 ERA, 1.55 WHIP) in three rehab starts in the Florida State League before being activated from the injured list last week. Eder suffered a broken foot right when he was about to return from Tommy John surgery this spring, so he ended up missing 23 total months of action between the two injuries.... See More ... Marlins' Jake Eder: Returning to mound Sunday
Eder (foot) will make his first start of the 2023 season for Single-A Jupiter on Sunday. It'll be the first start for Eder since 2021, as the southpaw underwent Tommy John surgery that September and also broke his foot while rehabbing this spring. The 24-year-old left-hander was sensational in the 2021 campaign with a 1.77 ERA and 99:27 K:BB and 0.98 WHIP over 71 innings. He could be a rotation option for the Marlins in 2024 if he shows the same stuff and command he did two years ago.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Jake Eder: Expected back in June
Eder (broken foot) is expected back in mid-to-late June, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports. The big 6-foot-4 southpaw broke his foot in a freak accident off the field during spring training. Eder, who underwent Tommy John surgery in September 2021, is very advanced and could move quickly through the upper levels once he's healthy.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Jake Eder: Recovering from broken foot
Eder is recovering from a fractured left foot and will open the year at Double-A Pensacola once healthy, Jim Callis of MLB.com reports. Eder was going to be make his much-anticipated return from Tommy John surgery this spring, but a fractured foot will delay things for the big southpaw. He excelled in 15 starts at Double-A in 2021 prior to needing surgery, so Eder could get a bump to Triple-A this summer once he knocks some rust off.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Jake Eder: Rehabbing apparent foot injury
Marlins general manager Kim Ng disclosed Sunday that Eder has been sporting a walking boot on his left foot for a couple of weeks due to an apparent injury, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. After undergoing Tommy John surgery in September 2021, Eder reported to spring training at full health and was expected to pitch in a Grapefruit League game at some point, but the previously unreported foot injury explains why he has yet to make his spring debut. According to Ng, Eder has been able to keep his surgically repaired arm fresh by throwing from one knee, but he obviously won't be ready for game action until he's able to shed the boot and field his position without issue. Expect Eder to open the campaign on the injured list at Double-A Pensacola or Triple-A Jacksonville.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Jake Eder: Enters camp at full strength
Eder (elbow) is feeling 100 percent and doesn't have an innings limit set for spring training, Fish on the Farm reports. Eder will likely be monitored closely as he nears his first live action since undergoing Tommy John surgery in August of 2021. The 24-year-old has only played one year of minor-league ball in the early stages of his career, as he spent the 2021 campaign with Double-A Pensacola and turned in a sparkling 1.77 ERA and 0.98 WHIP with a 99:27 K:BB over 15 starts (71.1 innings).... Marlins' Jake Eder: Nearing mound work
Eder (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Friday for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery in September, MLB.com reports. Eder's recovery from surgery appears to be on track thus far, but the Marlins are unlikely to have him pitch in anything other than simulated games before the minor-league season comes to a close. The 23-year-old lefty could be a candidate to get some innings in during the Arizona Fall League or instructional ball, but the Marlins' main focus will likely be in ensuring he's ready to go for spring training with no restrictions. Before getting surgery, Eder dazzled in his 15 starts at Double-A Pensacola, turning in a 1.77 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 99:27 K:BB across 71.1 innings.... See More ... See Less
