  • Giants' Melvin Adon: Comes off IL

Triple-A Sacramento reinstated Adon (shoulder) from its 7-day injured list Tuesday and reassigned him to Single-A San Jose.

Adon has faced a long road back from right shoulder surgery, which he initially underwent following the 2020 season. He was sidelined for the entire 2021 campaign before making his debut with the Giants' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate June 7 as part of a rehab assignment. Over his nine appearances between the ACL and the Single-A club, Adon has struck out 12 while allowing six runs (three earned) on eight hits and six walks across 9.2 innings.

  • Giants' Melvin Adon: Rehabbing with rookie-level team

Adon (shoulder) has made five appearances with the Giants' Arizona Complex League team. He has allowed three runs, five hits and three walks with 10 strikeouts in six innings.

Adon is still recovering from shoulder surgery after suffering an injury in winter ball in 2020-21. He had made his way up to Triple-A prior to this multi-year setback, but he may have to settle in with Double-A Richmond once he's ultimately activated from the 60-day injured list. Adon primarily worked as a reliever in 2019, his last healthy season.

  • Giants' Melvin Adon: Released, re-signed to minors deal

The Giants released Adon (shoulder) on March 16 before re-signing him Monday on a minor-league contract, Melissa Lockard of The Athletic reports.

Adon had yet to pitch in spring training while recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. By re-signing him, the Giants will be able to monitor his rehab program more closely. It's unclear when Adon will be ready to pitch again, but he'll likely have to complete a rehab assignment in the lower levels of the minors before eventually moving to Triple-A Sacramento.

  • Giants' Melvin Adon: Recovering from shoulder surgery

Manager Gabe Kapler revealed Wednesday that Adon is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Adon returned to the Giants as a non-roster invitee in December, but he got hurt playing winter ball and was forced to undergo surgery. It's not yet clear when the right-hander will be available, but he could compete for a major-league roster spot if he's healthy prior to the end of spring training.

  • Giants' Melvin Adon: Added to 60-man pool

Adon was added to the Giants' 60-man player pool Friday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

A hard-throwing right-handed relief pitching prospect, Adon is on the 40-man roster so he may have been injured or ill earlier in the summer, otherwise he likely would have been added to the pool right away. He had a 2.60 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, 31.2 percent strikeout rate and 13.8 percent walk rate at Double-A last season but struggled in 10.1 innings at Triple-A (13.94 ERA).

Over his 12 appearances with the affiliate, he gave up 16 runs on 16 hits and eight walks in 10.1 innings. Adon will need to get his command under control in the Pacific Coast League before getting a look in the Giants' bullpen.

  • Giants' Melvin Adon: Protected from Rule 5 draft

Adon was added to the Giants' 40-man roster Tuesday.

The 24-year-old righty has pitched primarily as a starter to this point, but his future is in relief. He is capable of touching triple digits out of the bullpen and could develop into a high-leverage arm. Adon recently turned heads in the Arizona Fall League, where he struck out 21 in 12.1 innings.
