Arteaga cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday, freelance baseball writer Byron Kerr reports. Arteaga made his first major-league appearance of the season Friday and went 0-for-3 with an RBI. He's hit .227 with a home run, nine RBI and seven runs across 20 games with Triple-A Rochester this year, and he'll remain in the organization going forward after he went unclaimed on waivers.... Nationals' Humberto Arteaga: Designated for assignment
Arteaga was designated for assignment by the Nationals on Saturday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Arteaga started in Friday's loss to the Dodgers with Trea Turner (finger) unavailable, and he went 0-for-3 with a run. However, he'll now be cast off the 40-man roster to make room for Alcides Escobar, who was acquired from the Royals on Friday and added to the active roster as part of a corresponding move.... Nationals' Humberto Arteaga: Joins Nationals on minors deal
Arteaga signed a minor-league contract with Washington in early February, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports. Arteaga made his big-league debut for the Royals in 2019, appearing in 41 games. He failed to impress, hitting just .197/.258/.230. He's never posted an above-average batting line in the minors, and his only stop with a wRC+ above 90 came in rookie ball all the way back in 2012, so there's little reason to believe he'll suddenly emerge as a productive hitter.... Humberto Arteaga: Let go by Royals
Arteaga was released by the Royals on Sunday. Arteaga returned to the Royals on a minor-league deal during the offseason and spent the start of the year on the 60-man roster. However, he'll now search for a new organization after failing to maintain a role with Kansas City.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Humberto Arteaga: Joins 60-man player pool
Arteaga will be a part of the Royals' 60-man player pool this season, Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes reports. He hit .087/.160/.087 as a non-roster invitee this spring prior to the shutdown. While Arteaga may see action in the majors this season, it would likely be as a bench infielder.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Humberto Arteaga: Struggles through spring training
Arteaga had a .087/.160/.087 slash line in 13 games during spring training. The 26-year-old was non-tendered by the Royals in early December but rejoined the club on a minor-league deal within a couple weeks. Arteaga made his major-league debut in 2019 and had a .488 OPS in 135 plate appearances, and his Cactus League performance certainly did him no favors in competition for a roster spot.... Royals' Humberto Arteaga: Returns to Royals on minors deal
Arteaga signed a minor-league contract with the Royals on Tuesday. Humberto was non-tendered by the Royals at the beginning of December, but he will return to the team on a minor-league deal. After the 25-year-old made his major-league debut in 2019, it wouldn't be surprising if he got the chance to compete in the big-league camp during spring training. Over 66 games with Triple-A Omaha last year, Arteaga recorded a .727 OPS with five home runs and 11 stolen bases.... See More ... See Less -
Humberto Arteaga: Hits open market
Arteaga was non-tendered by the Royals on Monday, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports. Arteaga made his big-league debut in 2019, though he struggled to a .197/.258/.230 slash line with four RBI over 41 contests. He'll likely need to sign a minor-league deal if he hopes to play in 2020.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Humberto Arteaga: Returns to bench
Arteaga is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Athletics. Arteaga logged back-to-back starts at shortstop to close out the Royals' weekend series in Cleveland, but the rookie still looks like only a part-time player. With a .188/.248/.218 slash line over his first 111 plate appearances in the majors, Arteaga hasn't done much to change his reputation as a glove-first player.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Humberto Arteaga: Shifts into backup role
Arteaga is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Indians. Arteaga received the first crack at the everyday shortstop gig when Adalberto Mondesi (shoulder) moved back to the injured list July 17, but the rookie has since fallen out of favor. Nicky Lopez will man shortstop for the fourth time in five games while Arteaga sticks on the bench.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Humberto Arteaga: Heads to bench
Arteaga is not starting Thursday against the Indians. Arteaga will sit for the second time in as many days after starting five consecutive games and going just 2-for-18 (.111) in those contests. In his place, Nicky Lopez is starting at shortstop and hitting seventh.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Humberto Arteaga: Filling in for Mondesi
Arteaga will start at shortstop and bat sixth Saturday against the Indians, Joel Goldberg of FOX Sports Kansas City reports. Arteaga will draw his third consecutive start and looks set to stick in the lineup for the duration of Adalberto Mondesi's (shoulder) stay on the injured list. The 25-year-old brings most of his value on the defensive end, as he managed an underwhelming .299/.333/.394 line with an 11-for-16 success rate on stolen-base attempts over 66 games at Triple-A Omaha prior to his callup.... Royals' Humberto Arteaga: Back with big club
Arteaga was recalled from Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday. Arteaga will take the roster spot of Adalberto Mondesi (shoulder), who was sent to the injured list Wednesday. The 25-year-old compiled a .237/.293/.263 slash line across 43 plate appearances with the Royals earlier in the season. He'll likley fill a utility role during his time in the majors.... See More ... Royals' Humberto Arteaga: Sent to Triple-A
Arteaga was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday. Arteaga appeared in 11 games for the Royals, hitting an unimpressive .237/.293/.263. He could return in a utility capacity at some point this season, but his numbers don't suggest that he'll be much of a fantasy asset. Adalberto Mondesi (groin) was activated from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Humberto Arteaga: Draws third straight start
Arteaga will start at shortstop and bat eighth Saturday against the Twins. Arteaga is in the lineup for a third straight game and looks like he'll act as the Royals' everyday shortstop while they wait for Adalberto Mondesi (groin) to return from the 10-day injured list. The 25-year-old went hitless in his first five big-league at-bats and won't warrant much immediate attention outside of AL-only formats.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Humberto Arteaga: Contract selected
Arteaga's contract was selected from Triple-A Omaha prior to Thursday's game against the Twins. The 25-year-old infielder was hitting .292/.323/.388 with five home runs and 10 steals in 265 plate appearances at Triple-A prior to his promotion. He has good contact skills (10.6 percent strikeout rate) and is capable of playing shortstop, second base and third base. The righty-hitting Arteaga could get starts in the middle infield against lefties while Adalberto Mondesi (groin) is on the injured list.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Humberto Arteaga : Returns to spring training
Arteaga batted .250 with a .333 OBP and drove in a run over nine plate appearances with the Royals this spring. After a solid 2015 campaign at Single-A Lexington and High-A Wilmington where he posted a slash line of .249/.287/.312, Arteaga earned a trip to the Royals' spring training. While his batting stats were respectable in the seven games in which he appeared, Arteaga needs to clean up his fielding as he had a .889 fielding percentage in a mere 18 innings. He will return to High-A Wilmington this year to keep polishing his game.... See More ... See Less
