Taylor is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals. Taylor started in left field both of the past two days while the Dodgers faced left-handed starting pitchers, but the 32-year-old looks set to lose playing time to right-handed pitching after Los Angeles called up outfield prospect Andy Pages from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday. Taylor's struggles while filling in as a starting corner outfielder in place of Jason Heyward (back) might have expedited Pages' arrival to the big leagues. After an 0-for-2 showing in Tuesday's 6-2 win over Washington, Taylor has just one hit in 35 at-bats on the season and has struck out in a whopping 42.9 percent of his plate appearances.... Dodgers' Chris Taylor: Heads to bench Wednesday
Taylor is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Taylor had started in left field in five of the Dodgers' previous six games, but he went hitless during that stretch and is now off to a 1-for-26 start to the 2024 campaign. The continued absence of Jason Heyward (back) leaves a spot open in the Los Angeles outfield against right-handed pitching, but Taylor's ongoing struggles could make it tough for manager Dave Roberts to justify keeping the 33-year-old in the lineup with regularity.... Dodgers' Chris Taylor: Nabs fourth straight start
Taylor will start in left field and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Cubs. Taylor will draw a fourth consecutive start in left field after going 0-for-9 with two walks over the previous three contests. Despite having yet to get going at the plate this season, Taylor looks as though he'll play regularly against right- and left-handed pitching while the Dodgers wait for Jason Heyward (back) to return from the injured list.... Dodgers' Chris Taylor: Reaches four times in win
Taylor went 1-for-1 with three walks, a stolen base and a run in a 5-4 victory against St. Louis on Sunday. Taylor got his second start of the season, batting fifth and playing left field. In his first start, he struck out in each of his three at-bats, but the utility man turned things around by getting aboard four times Sunday, including three times via walk. His final free pass was particularly important, as it was followed by Max Muncy's game-winning two-run homer. Taylor is clearly not going to get everyday at-bats as long as the rest of the Dodgers roster is relatively healthy, so he's most useful in fantasy formats that allow daily moves.... See More ... Dodgers' Chris Taylor: Not alone in super-utility role
Both Taylor and Enrique Hernandez are expected to work as super-utility players for the Dodgers this season, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports. When Los Angeles signed Teoscar Hernandez to play left field in January, it closed a door to Taylor nabbing an everyday corner-outfield role. The organization then signed Enrique Hernandez in late February, giving the team another player capable of playing all over the field. While that may cut down on Taylor's opportunities to some extent, manager Dave Roberts has historically found a way to give Taylor fairly regular work, though he did see a drop in his plate appearances to 384 -- his fewest over a full campaign since 2016 -- last season. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect to see Taylor penciled into the lineup on an everyday basis, but he still offers some value in leagues with daily lineup changes due to his positional versatility and ability to notch homers and steals in the mid-teens.... Dodgers' Chris Taylor: Likely headed for utility role
The Dodgers envision Taylor filling a utility role in 2024 after the team signed Teoscar Hernandez to a one-year, $23.5 million contract Sunday, Jim Bowden of The Athletic reports. Hernandez is expected to slot into a near-everyday role in left field, while the Dodgers are likely to deploy Jason Heyward and Manuel Margot as platoon partners in right field. Though his pathway to regular action in the corner outfield appears to be closed, Taylor will still be an option at either spot when any of those three players receive a day off. Additionally, Taylor is capable of covering center field, second base, third base and shortstop, giving him multiple avenues to picking up at-bats if the Dodgers lose one of their everyday infielders or outfielders to injury. When the Dodgers are at full strength, the righty-hitting Taylor could still have a good chance at cracking the lineup versus left-handed pitching at the expense of either James Outman or Gavin Lux (knee).... Dodgers' Chris Taylor: Not starting Game 2
Taylor is not in the lineup Monday for Game 2 of the NLDS versus the Diamondbacks, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports. Taylor looks to be over the knee injury he suffered in the final game of the regular season, as he appeared in Game 1 off the bench. He'll ride the pine again to start Game 2, with Miguel Rojas starting at shortstop, Mookie Betts handling second base and David Peralta covering left field.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Chris Taylor: Back in action for NLDS
Taylor (knee) appeared off the bench in Saturday's 11-2 loss to Arizona in Game 1 of the National League Division Series, going 0-for-2 while playing two innings in left field. Taylor exited the Dodgers' regular-season finale against the Giants on Oct. 1 with a left knee contusion, but he had sufficient time to heal up from the injury while Los Angeles was on bye for the wild-card round. The 33-year-old will likely fill a utility role throughout the Dodgers' postseason run, with most of his playing time expected to come against left-handed pitching.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Chris Taylor: Playing in intrasquad game
Taylor (knee) is participating in an intrasquad game Wednesday in Los Angeles, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Taylor was hit on the left knee by a pitch in Sunday's regular-season finale against the Giants, but he only suffered a mild contusion and is expected to be ready for Game 1 of the NLDS on Saturday. Miguel Rojas (hand/wrist) is also playing in Wednesday's intrasquad game at Dodger Stadium.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Chris Taylor: Diagnosed with knee contusion
Taylor left Sunday's game against the Giants with a left knee contusion. He avoids a serious injury after getting hit by a pitch and exiting the season finale. Taylor should have enough time to get right for Game 1 of the NLDS on Saturday.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Chris Taylor: Departs after HBP
Taylor was removed from Sunday's game against the Giants after being hit by a pitch on the left knee, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports. The 33-year-old initially remained in the game after the hit-by-pitch, but he was lifted just an inning later. The specifics of the injury remain unclear, but Taylor will have most of the week to recover ahead of Game 1 of the NLDS on Saturday.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Chris Taylor: Big night in Miami
Taylor went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run and five RBI in Thursday's 10-0 win over the Marlins. After a run-scoring single in the fifth inning and an RBI double in the sixth, Taylor put the finishing touches on the rout with a majestic three-run shot in the eighth. The versatile veteran has gone deep in back-to-back contests, matching his home run output from his previous 41 games. This marks the second time in Taylor's career that he has reached 15 homers and 15 steals in a single season.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Chris Taylor: Swats homer in loss
Taylor went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Tuesday in a loss to the Marlins. Taylor had the only extra-base hit in the contest for Los Angeles, taking A.J. Puk deep to left field for a game-tying solo shot in the seventh inning. It was the utility man's 14th homer of the campaign through 318 plate appearances, an uptick over the 10 long balls he hit across 454 plate appearances last season. Taylor has chipped in some speed as well with 15 thefts in the current campaign, though he's batting just .227 and has struck out at a 32.7 percent clip.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Chris Taylor: Nabs 15th steal
Taylor went 0-for-2 with two walks and a stolen base in Sunday's 3-1 win over Atlanta. Taylor has gone 4-for-10 with five walks and three steals over his last five games. He's picked up eight of his 15 steals this season since the start of August. The 33-year-old is starting to hit a little better, but he's slashing just .226/.322/.420 for the season with 13 home runs, 40 RBI and 43 runs scored through 97 contests.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Chris Taylor: Perfect at plate Tuesday
Taylor went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a walk, one RBI, one stolen base and one run scored in Tuesday's 9-1 win over the Diamondbacks. It was a strong effort for Taylor on his 33rd birthday. He had gone just 6-for-25 with two extra-base hits and no steals over his last nine games. The versatile veteran is now at a .228/.317/.427 slash line with 13 steals, 13 home runs, 40 RBI, 41 runs scored, 12 doubles and a triple over 93 contests this season.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Chris Taylor: Hits homer in win
Taylor went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's 7-1 win over the Brewers. Taylor finished the scoring with a seventh-inning blast. The homer was his first since July 17. During his 21-game power drought, he hit .227 with just two doubles and seven RBI, though he had five stolen bases in that span. The utilityman is at a .219/.309/.426 slash line with 13 homers, 38 RBI, 39 runs scored and 12 steals through 84 contests overall.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Chris Taylor: Picks up two steals
Taylor went 1-for-2 with two walks, two stolen bases and two runs scored in Sunday's 8-3 win over the Rockies. This was Taylor's second multi-steal effort in August, and he's logged five of his 12 thefts on the year over 11 contests this month. The utility man has hit safely in three straight games, going 4-for-10 in that span. For the season, he's at a .218/.306/.414 slash line with 12 home runs, 37 RBI, 38 runs scored, nine doubles and a triple over 271 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Chris Taylor: Snags two steals
Taylor went 0-for-3 with a walk, two stolen bases and a run scored in Saturday's 8-3 loss to the Padres. Taylor made the most of his trip on base, stealing second and third before scoring on a sacrifice fly in the second inning. The utility man continues to provide coverage at multiple positions, most recently spelling Max Muncy (wrist) at third base over the last two games. For the season, Taylor is up to nine steals while slashing a shaky .216/.297/.428 with 12 home runs, 37 RBI and 35 runs scored through 77 contests. He's hit safely in 10 of his last 13 games, going 11-for-44 (.250) with nine walks in that span.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Chris Taylor: Out of lineup Tuesday
Taylor is not in the lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Orioles. On Monday, Taylor received his first start since coming off the injured list Friday, though he had logged four at-bats in a non-starting role over the weekend. The utility man produced the biggest hit of the contest Monday against Baltimore, belting a sixth-inning grand slam that turned a two-run Dodgers deficit into a two-run lead. Taylor started at shortstop before moving to left field late in the game, but Miguel Rojas is starting at shortstop Tuesday while David Peralta is manning left field.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Chris Taylor: Moves rehab to Single-A
Taylor (knee) shifted his rehab assignment to Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Sunday and went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk while playing seven innings at shortstop. Taylor was making the second appearance of his rehab assignment, after he initially went 1-for-2 with a walk while playing for the Dodgers' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate Friday. Though the utility player saw action at shortstop Sunday, he could end up settling into a regular role at second base when he's likely activated from the 10-day injured list when the Dodgers reconvene following the All-Star break. The Dodgers have an opening at the keystone after optioning the struggling Miguel Vargas to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday.... See More ... See Less
