Adam Conley: Announces retirement
Conley announced his retirement from baseball Friday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Conley spent his first five major-league seasons with the Marlins and made 17 relief appearances for the Rays in 2021. He remained effective as a middle reliever last season, as he posted a 2.29 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in 19.2 innings. However, he elected free agency in November and will hang up his cleats after spending six years in the big leagues. The southpaw made 191 appearances (56 starts) in the majors and recorded a 25-30 record with a 4.71 ERA and 1.40 WHIP.

Rays' Adam Conley: Lands on COVID-19 injured list
Conley was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Tuesday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.
Conley tested positive for the virus, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. While he's not currently dealing with any symptoms, he'll be forced to quarantine for 10 days, ending his regular season and potentially costing him a spot on the playoff roster. Andrew Kittredge (neck) returned from the injured list to take Conley's spot in the bullpen.

Rays' Adam Conley: Solid at big-league level thus far
Conley, who was credited with his first hold while allowing a hit over a scoreless two-thirds of an inning in a win over the White Sox on Sunday, has a 1.93 ERA and 0.64 WHIP over the 4.2 innings he's logged across four appearances with the Rays.
The veteran southpaw had his contract selected from Triple-A Durham on Aug. 14 and has been a steadying presence in the Rays bullpen thus far. Conley offers manager Kevin Cash a good bit of versatility, considering his ability to work multiple innings and experience opening games via his 56 career starts at the big-league level.

The Rays selected Conley's contract from Triple-A Durham on Saturday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
The lefty has appeared in 27 games for Durham since signing May 10, posting a 4.35 ERA and 34:18 K:BB in 31 innings of relief. Conley will offer additional bullpen depth after Evan Phillips, who threw three innings Friday, was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

After electing free agency following the 2020 season, Conley agreed to a deal with the Rakuten Golden Eagles of Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball over the winter. Rather than heading overseas, however, Conley eventually opted out of his deal with the Golden Eagles due to concerns about the country's worsening coronavirus situation, according to Jim Allen of JBallAllen.com reports. Conley will instead continue his career in North America, with the 30-year-old expected to report to Triple-A Durham once he gets fully ramped up at the Rays' extended spring training site.
