Top Blake Treinen News

  • Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Hangs on for second save

Treinen earned the save in Wednesday's 6-5 win over Washington after allowing one hit and one walk in a scoreless ninth inning.

It wasn't easy for the veteran right-hander, who allowed the potential tying and go-ahead runs to get into scoring position before getting James Wood to ground out to end the game. Treinen has now converted two of his three save chances to go with two holds thus far, posting a 3.00 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 7:3 K:BB across six innings. Although southpaw Tanner Scott pitched the seventh inning Wednesday, it's worth noting he was summoned to protect a one-run lead against the top three members of Washington's batting order, two of which were left-handed hitters. The Dodgers figure to continue taking a committee approach based on matchups for ninth-inning work going forward, though Scott is the most desirable of the team's relievers from a fantasy perspective.

  • Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Tagged with loss, blown save Sunday

Treinen (0-1) took the loss and was charged with a blown save against Philadelphia on Sunday, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk over one inning.

Treinen entered in the bottom of the seventh inning after Los Angeles had rallied to take a one-run lead in the top of the frame. The right-hander found himself in quick trouble after he gave up a leadoff double to Bryce Harper followed by a walk to Max Kepler. After getting one out, Treinen then allowed two runs to cross the plate -- one on a single and one on a run-scoring groundout. It was an unusually subpar outing for the veteran reliever, who posted an ERA below 2.00 each of his previous three regular seasons and came into Sunday having pitched four scoreless innings to begin the campaign. He'll still be one of the Dodgers' top high-leverage arms and could get an occasional save chance, though Tanner Scott has emerged as the team's top closer.

  • Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Picks up save

Treinen allowed one hit and one walk while striking out two across a scoreless inning to earn the save Thursday against the Tigers.

Alex Vesia and Tanner Scott were called upon in the seventh and eighth innings, respectively, to face lefty-heavy portions of the Tigers' lineup. That left Treinen in line to get the save, though he allowed the tying runner to reach scoring position and needed 23 pitches to get the three outs. Scott figures to get the majority of save chances for the Dodgers moving forward, though he could continue to be used earlier in contests in high-leverage spots against elite left-handed hitters.

  • Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Staying with Dodgers

Treinen signed a two-year, $22 million contract with the Dodgers on Sunday, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Treinen will stick around Los Angeles after producing a 1.93 ERA and 0.94 WHIP with 56 strikeouts over 46.2 innings in 50 regular-season appearances with the Dodgers in 2024. The right-hander will likely operate in a late-inning role with the team in 2025, but he isn't a lock to get more than an occasional save chance. Treinen tallied one save and 16 holds for Los Angeles during the 2024 regular season.
