Torreyes was released by the Phillies on Tuesday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Torreyes got into 112 games for the Phillies last season as a utility infielder but hit just .242/.286/.346. The signing of Johan Camargo has pushed him further down the organizational depth chart this season, and he evidently didn't see a path to playing time in Philadelphia even after the underperforming Bryson Stott was demoted Monday. He'll hit the open market in search of other opportunities but seems unlikely to play a major role wherever he lands.... See More ... See Less

Phillies' Ronald Torreyes: Sent to minors
Torreyes was reassigned to minor-league camp Monday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. Torreyes went 1-for-11 with a run, an RBI, a walk and two strikeouts this spring, and he was unable to land a spot on the Opening Day roster. He appeared in 112 games for the Phillies last year, so he'll presumably be in the mix to provide utility depth at some point in 2022.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Ronald Torreyes: Back with Philadelphia
Torreyes signed a minor-league contract with the Phillies on Sunday that includes an invite to major-league camp, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. Torreyes elected free agency after being outrighted off the Phillies' 40-man roster in November, but he's now back with the team for spring training. The 29-year-old played in 112 games during 2021 and hit .242/.286/.346 with seven home runs, 30 runs and 41 RBI in 344 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Ronald Torreyes: Heads to free agency
Torreyes elected free agency Friday after being outrighted by the Phillies. He served as the Phillies' top utility infielder last season, hitting .242/.286/.346 in 112 games. Torreyes may be looking at a minor-league deal for his age-29 season.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Ronald Torreyes: Slugs pinch-hit homer
Torreyes went 1-for-1 with a three-run home run in a 12-6 victory against Pittsburgh on Thursday. Torreyes stepped to the plate for starter Aaron Nola in the sixth inning and launched a two-out home run to left to bring Philadelphia all the way back from a 6-0 deficit. The 29-year-old only had one at-bat this week prior to Thursday's game, though he could receive more opportunities moving forward thanks to the clutch long ball.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Ronald Torreyes: Losing playing time
Torreyes is not in the lineup Friday against the Mets. The 29-year-old finds himself on the bench for the fourth time in the past five games, as Freddy Galvis appears to have taken over as Philadelphia's primary third baseman. Torreyes is 4-for-30 through 13 games in September, while Galvis has a 1.045 OPS in 12 contests this month.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Ronald Torreyes: Not in Thursday's lineup
Torreyes isn't in the lineup Thursday against the Cubs. Torreyes will retreat to the bench for the fourth time in the last six games. Freddy Galvis will take over at the hot corner and bat eighth.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Ronald Torreyes: On bench Wednesday
Torreyes isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Cubs. Torreyes has gone hitless with a walk and two strikeouts in his last 14 plate appearances, and he'll be out of the lineup for the third time in the last five games. Freddy Galvis will start at the hot corner and bat seventh.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Ronald Torreyes: Sits again Sunday
Torreyes will hit the bench for the second time in three games Sunday against the Rockies. The Phillies have started to move away from Torreyes at third base, as his .245/.289/.350 slash line is nowhere near good enough for a corner infielder. Freddy Galvis will start at the hot corner Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Ronald Torreyes: Not in Friday's lineup
Torreyes will sit Friday against the Rockies. Torreyes has been the Phillies' primary third baseman for the past month due to Alec Bohm's wrist injury and struggles, but he's a very poor fit offensively for the position and his 75 wRC+, the product of a .249/.293/.356 slash line, is clearly inadequate for a corner infielder. Torreyes owns a barely better 78 wRC+ over the course of his seven-year career, so there's little reason to expect things will improve for him at the plate any time soon. Freddy Galvis, who owns a career wRC+ of 80, will start at the hot corner Friday.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Ronald Torreyes: Heads to bench
Torreyes will not start Monday's game against Milwaukee, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Torreyes has emerged as the Phillies' primary third baseman despite a poor .249/.293/.361 slash line, numbers which aren't good enough for an everyday middle infielder, let alone a third baseman. Freddy Galvis will take over at the hot corner Monday.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Ronald Torreyes: Back in action
Torreyes (undisclosed) is in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Marlins. Torreyes was scratched from Friday's lineup, replaced at shortstop by Didi Gregorius. While the reason for his scratch never came to light, it seems it was not a serious issue. He will be at the hot corner Saturday, batting eighth against lefty Trevor Rogers.... See More ... Phillies' Ronald Torreyes: Scratched from Friday's lineup
Torreyes won't start Friday against the Marlins for unspecified reasons, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Torreyes was penciled in to start at third base but ended up being a late scratch. Didi Gregorius will enter the lineup in his place to play shortstop, pushing Freddy Galvis to the hot corner.... Phillies' Ronald Torreyes: Not starting Friday
Torreyes is out of the lineup Friday against the Diamondbacks, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. Torreyes started the past 17 games and will head to the bench after posting a .543 OPS during that stretch. Freddy Galvis will start at the hot corner in his absence Friday.... See More ... Phillies' Ronald Torreyes: Emerges as everyday player
Torreyes will start at third base and bat seventh Sunday against the Reds. Alec Bohm will be on the bench Sunday for a fourth straight game, while Torreyes draws his eighth consecutive start, the last six of which have come at third base. After going 3-for-4 with a home run in Saturday's 6-1 win to lift his OPS to .721 on the season, Torreyes looks like he'll stick ahead of Bohm on the depth chart for the time being.... See More ... Phillies' Ronald Torreyes: Pops sixth homer
Torreyes went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 6-1 win over the Reds. He took Luis Castillo deep in the third inning for the game's first run. Torreyes hadn't put together a multi-hit effort since July 25, and on the season he's batting .273 with six homers and 31 RBI through 71 games.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Ronald Torreyes: Leaves yard in win
Torreyes went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run during Tuesday's victory over the Nationals. Torreyes took Patrick Corbin deep in the seventh inning, smashing a 397-foot shot. Now that Didi Gregorious is healthy again, he'll stand as the main shortstop in Philadelphia, causing Torreyes to fight for playing time. Across 61 games thus far, the 28-year-old is batting a respectable .276/.328/.408 with five homers.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Ronald Torreyes: Heads back to bench role
Torreyes is out of the lineup for the first game of Thursday's doubleheader with the Nationals. Torreyes had started in 13 of the Phillies' last 14 games, slashing an impressive .349/.420/.535 over that stretch. With all of Alec Bohm, Didi Gregorius and Jean Segura healthy again, Torreyes won't have a path to an everyday role, but expect the Phillies to find a way to give the versatile infielder at least a handful of starts per week while he's dialed in at the dish.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Ronald Torreyes: Notches two hits Sunday
Torreyes went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's 2-1 win over Atlanta. Torreyes got a breather Saturday, but he returned to the lineup for Sunday's series finale and blasted his fourth home run of the year in the eighth inning. The 28-year-old was the only player on the team to record multiple hits Sunday, and he's now hit .333 with a home run, a double, six runs, four RBI and six walks since the All-Star break.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Ronald Torreyes: Filling in for Alec Bohm
Torreyes will start at third base and bat seventh Sunday against the Marlins. Torreyes lost hold of the everyday gig at shortstop earlier this month when Didi Gregorius returned from the injured list, but Alec Bohm's placement on the COVID-19-related IL shortly before the All-Star break has opened up work for Torreyes at the hot corner. He'll man the position for a fifth straight game Sunday.... See More ... See Less
