Kluber (shoulder) feels healthy but will not pitch again this season, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. Kluber has been throwing off a big-league mound since late June due to shoulder inflammation, but he'd been working his way back, making a pair of rehab appearances for Triple-A Worcester over the last week. With the Red Sox falling out of the playoff race, they won't ask the 37-year-old righty to put more miles on his arm in what have become essentially meaningless games. The fact that Kluber at least made it back for some rehab games bodes well for his readiness for the start of next season, though his 7.04 ERA in 55 innings this season means his opportunities may be limited.... Red Sox's Corey Kluber: Gets eight outs for WooSox
Kluber (shoulder) allowed two hits and struck out two over 2.2 scoreless innings for Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday. Kluber threw 23 strikes among his 35 pitches. This was his second rehab outing, and the right-hander has not allowed a run or walk. He's expected to pitch out of the bullpen after being activated off the injured list.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Corey Kluber: Rehab appearance pushed back
Kluber (shoulder) had his first rehab appearance pushed from Friday to Saturday, MLB.com reports. Kluber had been scheduled to pitch Friday for Triple-A Worcester, but a travel issue delayed the outing until Saturday. He will return to the Red Sox as a reliever.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Corey Kluber: Rehab to start Friday
Kluber (shoulder) has been cleared to begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Portland on Friday, MLB.com reports. Kluber threw two innings of live batting practice prior to Tuesday's game against the Rays at Tropicana Field. The veteran right-hander was placed on the injured list in June and had an earlier rehab assignment stopped when he experienced continued shoulder issues after two starts. Kluber will work out of the bullpen when he returns to the Red Sox.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Corey Kluber: Bullpen coming soon
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Saturday that Kluber (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session soon, MLB.com reports. If all goes well in the session, Kluber will go on a rehab assignment. Cora said the team hopes the right-hander can pitch again this season.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Corey Kluber: Moved to 60-day IL
Boston transferred Kluber (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list Friday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. This move clears out a 40-man roster spot for reliever Zack Weiss, who has been claimed off waivers from the Angels. Kluber has been sidelined since June 21 because of a shoulder injury and there remains no timetable for his return to the Red Sox. The veteran right-hander just recently resumed playing catch.... Red Sox's Corey Kluber: Shut down from all activities
The Red Sox shut down Kluber (shoulder) from all baseball activity Saturday, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports. Kluber suffered a setback during his rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester and will now have his return date pushed back. There's been no word on how severe Kluber's setback is, but he figures to still be multiple weeks away from returning to Boston. The 37-year-old righty held a 7.04 ERA and 1.64 WHIP through 55 innings before getting injured in late June.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Corey Kluber: Sharp in rehab debut
Kluber (shoulder) tossed two scoreless innings in his rehab debut Friday with Double-A Portland. Kluber entered the game out of the bullpen but got his pitch count up to 35 while scattering one hit with no walks and one strikeout. It's unclear at this point whether the Red Sox plan to bring him back as a starter or reliever. He's been on the shelf since June 21 due to right shoulder inflammation.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Corey Kluber: First rehab start next week
Kluber (shoulder) is trending toward making his first rehab appearance July 21, Mike Monaco of ESPN reports. He has been throwing bullpen sessions and has not pitched in a game since June 20. If he needs two rehab outings, Kluber could return by July 31. He had a 9.45 ERA and 1.95 WHIP in six June relief appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Corey Kluber: Throws first bullpen
Kluber (shoulder) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session at Fenway Park on Sunday, MLB.com reports. Boston manager Alex Cora was encouraged by the session, noting Kluber looked much better than he did in the days and weeks leading up to his placement on the injured list June 21. "Healthwise, he feels a lot stronger, which is good. You can see the sharpness of the pitches and the ability to locate in that bullpen," Cora said. The right-hander's next step will be a two-inning bullpen Thursday.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Corey Kluber: Placed on injured list
The Red Sox placed Kluber on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right shoulder inflammation, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports. With a 7.04 ERA and 1.64 WHIP through 55 innings, Kluber hasn't been sharp at all this season. Now, he'll be put on the shelf for the next two weeks as the Red Sox continue to battle injuries to their pitching staff. Infield prospect David Hamilton was called up from Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Corey Kluber: Goes three innings, grabs save
Kluber picked up the save in Tuesday's 10-4 victory over the Twins. He allowed four runs on five hits and one walk while striking out two over three innings. Kluber has served as a long reliever for the Red Sox since moving to the bullpen in late May and picked up a save in his first opportunity despite giving up four runs. The bullpen experiment has garnered mixed results for Boston, with Kluber giving up one or fewer runs in four of his seven relief appearances, but he's allowed a combined 13 runs in the other three. Regardless, it's unlikely Kluber will receive many high-leverage looks unless he turns things around in a major way. Tuesday's workload (48 pitches) means he will not be considered for a start Thursday when Tanner Houck's (face) turn is next due.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Corey Kluber: Hammered in loss
Kluber allowed seven runs on 11 hits and one walk while striking out one over 3.1 relief innings in Thursday's 10-3 loss to Cleveland. Kluber made his third appearance since moving from the rotation to the bullpen, taking over from Matt Dermody in the fifth inning. and he was left in for an ugly sixth inning despite allowing eight consecutive hits to start the frame. Manager Alex Cora told Ian Browne of MLB.com that he wanted to "reset our bullpen" and get ready for a three-game weekend series in New York against the Yankees. Kluber, who was Boston's Opening Day starter and a two-time Cy Young Award winner in his days with Cleveland, watched his ERA swell to 7.13 following the outing as he tries to adjust to a low-leverage role.... Red Sox's Corey Kluber: Back from paternity leave
Kluber was activated Friday from the paternity list, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports. Kluber has returned to the Red Sox and is likely to get a start in one half of Saturday's doubleheader against the Rays. He was moved to the bullpen last week but did not make a relief appearance prior to being excused from the team. It's a little uncertain what the season-long plan will be for the veteran right-hander, though his fantasy appeal figures to remain quite low no matter his role.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Corey Kluber: Goes on paternity leave
The Red Sox placed Kluber on the paternity list Tuesday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports. Kluber and his family just welcomed a new baby, so he'll be away from the club for up to three days. Ryan Sherriff was called up from Triple-A Worcester to take Kluber's spot in the bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Corey Kluber: Moving to bullpen
Kluber has been moved to the bullpen, Red Sox manager Alex Cora confirmed Wednesday in a radio interview with "Gresh and Fauria" on WEEI 93.7, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports. Cora had said earlier this week that Kluber would make his next start, but the skipper has apparently changed his mind. Kluber has been dreadful after inking a one-year, $10 million contract over the offseason, putting up a 6.26 ERA and 34:18 K:BB across 41.2 innings covering nine starts. That, combined with Tanner Houck's strong showing his last time out, is the impetus behind Kluber's demotion. The 37-year-old wouldn't seem to be a great fit for relief and figures to be relegated to a mop-up role.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Corey Kluber: Will make next start
Boston manager Alex Cora said Kluber will make his next start Sunday in Arizona, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports. Kluber lasted just 2.1 innings in a loss to the Padres on Sunday and walked three batters during a four-run first inning. With Garrett Whitlock (elbow) expected to be activated from the 15-day injured list to start this coming Saturday, Boston's rotation will increase to six men. Kluber had been off the radar when it came to potential rotation removals the last few weeks, but it's becoming hard for the Red Sox to continue to hand him starts while he's sporting a 6.26 ERA and 18 walks over 41.2 innings this season.... Red Sox's Corey Kluber: Chased early in loss
Kluber (2-6) yielded five runs (one earned) over 2.1 innings and took the loss against the Padres on Sunday. He allowed three hits and three walks while striking out one batter. The Padres jumped all over Kluber in the first inning, plating four runs. He was later charged with one more run in the third after he was removed from the game. Just one of the runs allowed was earned, meaning Kluber dropped his ERA from 6.41 to 6.26. On the bright side, this was his first start all year without giving up a home run. Kluber's next start is currently lined up to be in Arizona.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Corey Kluber: Tagged with four runs
Kluber (2-5) allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks over five innings Sunday, striking out five and taking a loss against the Cardinals. Most of the damage against Kluber on Sunday came via the long ball, including Andrew Knizner's two-run shot in the fourth inning. Kluber was 2-0 in his last three starts after beginning the year 0-4 but found his way back to the loss column. His ERA rose to an ugly 6.41 with a 33:15 K:BB through eight starts. Kluber's next start is currently projected to be in San Diego.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Corey Kluber: Nabs second win
Kluber (2-4) earned the win over Philadelphia on Saturday, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out one batter over five innings. Kluber was far from dominant in the outing, as he induced just nine swinging strikes and punched out only one batter. However, he didn't issue any walks and kept the Phillies away from big innings, allowing a single run in each of the second, fourth and fifth frames. Kluber needed 91 pitches to get through five innings, but that was enough for him to pick up his second victory. He began the campaign with four straight losses, but he's improved with two wins over his past three starts, allowing a tolerable seven earned runs over 16.1 frames during that stretch....
