  • Nolan Gorman 2B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Day off Wednesday

Gorman isn't in the Cardinals' lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Gorman will get a day to clear his head after striking out four times during Tuesday's win over the Halos. Brendan Donovan will fill in at the keystone Wednesday while Alec Burleson, Mike Siani and Lars Nootbaar start across the outfield.

  • Cubs' Miles Mastrobuoni: Playing time picking up

Mastrobuoni will start at shortstop and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against Atlanta, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

With Dansby Swanson (knee) recently going on the injured list and with Nico Hoerner (hamstring) out of the lineup for the second day in a row, Mastrobuoni has been the main beneficiary from a playing-time perspective. He'll draw his fifth start in seven games Wednesday and could continue to see fairly steady playing time in the middle infield even if Hoerner avoids a trip to the IL.

  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Held out again Wednesday

Hoerner (hamstring) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Atlanta, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Hoerner was a late scratch ahead of Tuesday's 7-0 loss with left hamstring tightness and still isn't feeling up to playing. Hamstring injuries are notoriously tricky, but the Cubs haven't indicated at this point that Hoerner will require a stint on the injured list. Miles Mastrobuoni will again fill in at shortstop.

  • Vaughn Grissom 2B | BOS

Red Sox's Vaughn Grissom: Getting day off Wednesday

Grissom is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Rays.

Grissom had started each of the previous eight contests and nine of 10 games since returning from the injured list, but he'll begin Wednesday's game on the bench as the Red Sox square off against Taj Bradley and the Rays. The 23-year-old has gotten off to a slow start, going just 5-for-37 with a 7:0 K:BB. David Hamilton will draw a start at second base Wednesday.

  • Jonathan India 2B | CIN

Reds' Jonathan India: Scratched from lineup

India was a late scratch from the lineup for Wednesday's game in Arizona due to a migraine, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Spencer Steer will shift to second base to cover for India, while Jacob Hurtubise will enter the lineup in left field. Consider India day-to-day for the time being.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | TB

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Should resume rehab assignment soon

Rays manager Kevin Cash said Tuesday that Lowe (oblique) will rejoin the team in Tampa Bay and will resume swinging the bat before heading back out on a minor-league rehab assignment in short order, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Cash's comments came after Lowe was pulled off his assignment with Durham when he experienced renewed soreness in his right oblique during his fourth rehab game Sunday. Lowe visited a spine surgeon Tuesday for further consultation on his injury, with Cash noting that further imaging showed the second baseman was "heading in the right direction" with his recovery. Cash said that Lowe may still have to manage some pain moving forward, but the 29-year-old at least appears to have steered clear of a major setback. If he's able to return to Durham and resume playing in games by this weekend, Lowe could be ready to come off the 10-day injured list at some point next week.

  • Jorge Polanco 2B | SEA

Mariners' Jorge Polanco: Out Wednesday with hamstring injury

Polanco (hamstring) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Polanco will take a seat for the second day in a row while he manages a tight right hamstring. The Mariners are viewing him as day-to-day, but a trip to the injured list could become more realistic if Polanco is still not available to start coming out of Thursday's team off day.

  • Andres Gimenez 2B | CLE

Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Plates two in win

Gimenez went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one stolen base and one run scored in Tuesday's 7-4 win over the Rangers.

Gimenez contributed an RBI single in the second inning and a sacrifice fly in the ninth. He's hit safely in three straight games after going 0-for-15 over the previous four contests. The second baseman is up to a .255/.318/.357 slash line with six steals, two home runs, 23 RBI, 23 runs scored, eight doubles and a triple over 40 contests. While his power is slightly down this year, the rest of his offense is roughly in line with where he was at in 2023.

  • Luis Garcia 2B | WAS

Nationals' Luis Garcia: Getting rest in series finale

Garcia is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

The White Sox are bringing southpaw Garrett Crochet to the hill for the series finale, so the Nationals will stock up on some extra right-handed bats. The lefty-hitting Garcia will hit the bench after he went 1-for-8 with a walk while starting at second base in both ends of Tuesday's doubleheader. Trey Lipscomb will fill in for Garcia at the keystone.

  • Joey Wendle 2B | NYM

Mets' Joey Wendle: Cast off 40-man roster

The Mets designated Wendle for assignment Wednesday.

Unless another team opts to put in a waiver claim for Wendle, the Mets will owe him the money remaining on his one-year, $2 million deal. Signed in November to provide depth in the infield, Wendle rarely saw action for the Mets and struggled to produce in his limited opportunities, slashing .222/.243/.250 across 37 plate appearances.
