The Mariners placed Crawford on the 10-day injured list with a Grade 1 right oblique strain. Crawford was a late scratch from the lineup ahead of Wednesday's loss to the Rangers, and subsequent testing revealed that he was dealing with an oblique strain. Grade 1 is the least severe type of strain, so it's possible that Crawford's stint on the IL won't be a lengthy one. Dylan Moore will make his second straight start at shortstop Thursday and is expected to serve as the primary replacement for Crawford during his upcoming absence.... See More ... See Less

Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Held out again Thursday
Crawford (oblique) remains out of the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Rangers. Crawford had to be scratched from Wednesday's lineup with right oblique soreness and now will miss a second straight start. Infielder Leonardo Rivas has joined the Mariners on their taxi squad, per Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM, so it would appear possible that Crawford will require a stint on the injured list. Dylan Moore is handling shortstop Thursday.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Scratched Wednesday
Crawford was scratched from the Mariners' lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Rangers due to right oblique soreness. The severity of Crawford's injury remains unknown, but it's apparently enough to keep him from starting in Wednesday's contest. Dylan Moore will enter the lineup as Seattle's new shortstop and bat eighth.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Productive during twin bill
Crawford went a combined 2-for-8 with a triple, four RBI, two walks and two runs during both games of Sunday's doubleheader against the Rockies. The four trips on the basepaths made for a busy afternoon for the veteran shortstop, and the productive day, which was highlighted by a bases-clearing triple in Game 2, was preceded by back-to-back two-hit efforts in Crawford's previous two contests Tuesday and Saturday. Crawford is still slashing just .193/.287/.289 on the season, but he's now reached safely in 11 consecutive games, a span during which he boasts a .353 on-base percentage.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Gets first day off of season
Crawford is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds. The Mariners are wrapping up their series against Cincinnati with a day game after a night game and a lefty (Andrew Abbott) is on the hill for the Reds, so Seattle skipper Scott Servais likely felt that it was an opportune time to give the lefty-hitting Crawford a day off. Crawford will cede shortstop to Dylan Moore while Julio Rodriguez replaces Crawford atop the batting order.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' J.P. Crawford: First multi-hit game of season
Crawford went 2-for-5 with a run in a win over the Reds on Tuesday. Crawford's multi-hit effort was his first of the season -- a much-needed shot in the arm for his struggling bat. Crawford has now managed to reach safely in eight consecutive games, albeit while mustering just one extra-base hit in that sample. The veteran shortstop's slash line sits at a forgettable .171/.266/.257 across 79 plate appearances, but there aren't yet any discernible rumblings about a potential loss of playing time.... Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Swats second homer
Crawford went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Monday against Toronto. Although Crawford smacked his second homer of the season, he wasn't able to reach safely in his other three at-bats. He's still looking for his first multi-hit game of 2024, slashing .140/.213/.279 with five runs scored and four RBI over 11 appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Slugs key homer Friday
Crawford went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a win over the Red Sox on Friday. Crawford sent a Nick Pivetta offering 381 feet into the right-field stands with one out in the sixth inning for what would turn out to be the only run of the game. The veteran shortstop had gone 0-for-4 on Opening Day, so his two times on base Friday were his first of the nascent season.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Delivers another big hit
Crawford went 1-for-3 with a grand slam, a walk and a second run scored in Friday's 8-0 win over the Rangers. One night after Crawford's game-winning two-run double, the shortstop put an exclamation point on the Mariners' fourth inning rally with a grand slam. He's put together a solid September, batting .257 (28-for-109) with seven homers, 21 RBI, seven doubles and 18 runs scored over 27 contests. He's now at a .266/.381/.440 slash line with 19 long balls, 65 RBI, 94 runs scored and two stolen bases over 143 contests this season.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Laces game-winning hit Thursday
Crawford went 2-for-5 with a game-winning two-run double in a victory over the Rangers on Thursday. Crawford's ninth-inning double plated Cal Raleigh and Dylan Moore with the tying and winning runs, keeping the Mariners' postseason hopes alive. The veteran shortstop's career-high RBI total now stands at 61, and he's posted a .281 average, .926 OPS, 17 extra-base hits and 22 RBI over the 150 plate appearances he's logged in what is now a month-plus hot streak at the dish.... Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Smacks leadoff homer
Crawford went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and three walks in Wednesday's 8-3 loss to the Astros. Crawford made an early impact, opening the scoring on the second pitch he saw from Framber Valdez. Through 25 games in September, Crawford has gone 25-for-101 (.248) with six homers, 15 RBI and 15 walks. The shortstop is up to 18 long balls, 59 RBI, 92 runs scored, two stolen bases and a .264/.380/.434 slash line through 141 contests. He's also shown strong plate discipline with a 15.0 percent walk rate and a 19.8 percent strikeout rate.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Homers in loss
Crawford went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Sunday's 9-8 loss to the Rangers. Crawford took Nathan Eovaldi deep in third inning for his second home run over his last five games and his fifth this month. He continues to be one of the Mariners' more impactful hitters, as he now has a hit in 12 of his last 13 games and is slashing .281/.349/.491 over that span. His 17 home runs on the year nearly double his previous career high of nine from 2021, while his 58 RBI and 91 runs scored also are career-best totals.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Knocks homer in win
Crawford went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, an RBI double and two total runs scored in Tuesday's 7-2 win over the Athletics. It took until the seventh inning, but Crawford was able to extend his hitting streak to nine games. He's gone 11-for-38 (.289) in that span. The shortstop is up to 16 homers, 57 RBI, 88 runs scored, 34 doubles and two stolen bases while slashing .266/.382/.433 through 134 contests this season. Crawford's excellent on-base skills continue to be valuable as the Mariners' primary leadoff hitter.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Approaching career-best RBI total
Crawford, who drove in three runs with a bases-clearing double over five plate appearances against the Angels on Tuesday, is now just one RBI from tying the career-high 54 he generated in 2021. The veteran shortstop has been a pleasant surprise for fantasy managers in a couple of different statistical aspects this season. The fact he's on the precipice of a new career-best RBI tally is certainly one, and a pair of figures that have helped facilitate it -- a .280 average with runners on base and a career-high 15 home runs -- are two others. Crawford appeared to truly hit his stride at the plate three games into the second half of the season and hasn't cooled off for any extended stretch since, posting a .285/.408/.485 slash line in the 43 games he's played since July 16.... Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Belts clutch blast Wednesday
Crawford went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in a win over the Reds on Wednesday. Crawford came through with the Mariners' most impactful hit of the game, slugging a 382-foot shot to right with Ty France and Josh Rojas aboard in the fourth inning to extend Seattle's lead to 6-1. The homer was Crawford's fifth in the last 12 games, an atypical power surge that has pushed his career-high total in that category to 15. Moreover, all three components of Crawford's .271/.389/.437 slash line are also career-best figures by wide margins.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Possible waiver wire pickups
J.P. Crawford ended the weekend on a sour note, going 0 for 4 Sunday, but in the two games prior, he went 4 for 8 with two home runs. And in 12 games since returning from a two-week absence for a concussion, he's 14 for 45 (.311) with four home runs. Really, the light bulb came on for him at the start of July, his batting average having climbed 32 points since then, and in Head-to-Head points leagues, it's made for a higher point-per-game average than Bo Bichette this year. The 59-walk edge has a little something to do with it, and it's that superlative plate discipline that makes Crawford particularly appealing in that format. If you recently lost Bichette or Matt McLain and have already been scooped on Royce Lewis, Crawford makes for another fine replacement.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Goes deep in three-hit performance
Crawford went 3-for-4 with a solo homer, two additional runs scored and a hit-by-pitch in Saturday's win over the Mets. Crawford put a cap on his big game by launching a decisive solo home run down the right field line in the ninth inning, giving Seattle an 8-7 lead. In 11 games since returning from a concussion, the 28-year-old shortstop is hitting .341 (14-for-41) with four homers, eight RBI, 17 runs, one steal, 11 walks, and 13 strikeouts.... See More ... Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Accounts for only run Friday
Crawford went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a loss to the Mets on Friday. Crawford's 413-foot shot to center in the fourth inning would end up representing the Mariners' only run of the night against a dominant Kodai Senga and two relievers. The veteran shortstop has seen his power stroke come alive of late, as Friday's round tripper was his third in the last seven games and pushed his season total to a career-best 13. Crawford has also reached safely in six of his last seven games, a stretch during which he's hitting .400 (10-for-25) with five total extra-base hits, six RBI, six walks, a stolen base and 10 runs.... Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Productive out of leadoff spot
Crawford went 1-for-4 with a two-run single and a stolen base in a win over the Athletics on Wednesday. Crawford plated the tying and go-ahead runs with his timely seventh-inning single, sealing the comeback victory for Seattle. Crawford's steal was only his second of the season, and the veteran shortstop has now cobbled together an impressive .294 average -- including a .455 figure with men on base -- and .984 OPS over the nine games he's played since returning from a stint on the 7-day injured list due to a concussion.... Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Hits leadoff blast
Crawford went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and two additional runs scored in Monday's 7-0 win over the Athletics. Crawford took Kyle Muller's second pitch of the game over the center-field wall. This was Crawford's second homer in four games, and he has three multi-hit efforts in that span. The shortstop is at a .268/.384/.421 slash line with 12 long balls, 42 RBI, 76 runs scored and one stolen base through 114 contests this season. Prior to 2023, he'd never hit more than nine homers or posted an OPS better than .714 in any big-league campaign.... See More ... See Less
