On Saturday, the Southern Miss Golden Eagles were out to avenge their 30-6 loss to the Rice Owls from their previous meeting last October, but they had no such luck. Southern Miss was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 24-19 to Rice.

The Golden Eagles' defeat pushed them down to 1-4. Rice's win ended a seven-game game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-3.

Southern Miss will take on the UTEP Miners at 7 p.m. ET next Saturday at home. Rice will have some time to rest before their next contest, which is against the UTSA Roadrunners at 6 p.m. ET in two weeks at Alamodome.
