As legal offenses go, a citation for trespassing during a massive college block party isn't exactly a major one. But it's still major enough that Wisconsin running back and Heisman candidate Montee Ball is now $429 lighter in the wallet.
That's the report from Madison's WISC-TV, which quoted Madison Police Chief Noble Wray as confirming Ball's Saturday afternoon citation during the annual Mifflin Street Block Party. According to reporter Theo Keith, Ball was briefly arrested, cited, and released after trespassing onto the porch of a property owner during the block party.
Ball was reportedly cooperative with police and the citation was not alcohol-related.
The citation will nonetheless cost him the full $429, and possibly some kind of punishment from Badger head coach Bret Bielema--though it's difficult, if not impossible, to see Ball facing suspension given his clean track record and the minor nature of the offense.
Ball was one of some 150-plus people arrested during the block party so far, meaning that he's hardly alone among Wisconsin students facing some level of legal issue after this Saturday. But we're guessing that Ball's incident winds up more footnote than major story when all is said and done.
