Watchability: An intriguing matchup, if only to see that wild ol’ stallion Rocky Long actually live up to his idea not to punt. Plus, the Huskies’ new defense is worth a look.
Shining stars: San Diego State: Walter Kazee takes over full-time for Ronnie Hillman. Run, Walter, Run doesn’t have quite the same ring to it, but he’ll do well. Washington: Defensive end Josh Shirley could emerge as the Pac-12’s premier pass-rusher this year.
Who could steal the show: San Diego State: Junior tight end Gavin Escobar will present a difficult matchup for the Aztecs. Washington: Quarterback Keith Price had a very good freshman year, but if the Huskies are to make a leap, he will have to, also.
You going? Ranking the road trip: If the Experience Music Project is too busy, perhaps take in a ball game. Bo Diddley’s guitar, live, in person, beats what should be a routine Husky win.
Magic number for San Diego State: 3. A third straight bowl game would be a first for the suddenly awakening program.
Magic number for Washington: 67. The last time we saw the Husky defense, it was allowing nearly 70 points to Baylor and Robert Griffin III. But this is a new defense and a new day. They hope. They really hope.
The game comes down to: Washington’s offense is just a bit better, and the team is overall more physical, and that tips the scales.
Prediction: Washington 34, San Diego State 24
