Watchability: Arkansas senior quarterbackTyler Wilson should put on another aerial show after throwing for 367 yards and three scores in the opener.
Shining stars: Arkansas: Brandon Mitchell made a smooth transition from quarterback to wideout, catching four balls for 122 yards in his debut. The 6-4, 230-pounder poses a matchup nightmare for defensive backs. Also look for senior tight end Chris Gragg to make multiple grabs; he had seven for 110 yards and two TDs in the opener. Louisiana-Monroe: Dual-threat QB Kolton Browning passed for 2,483 yards, ran for 443 yards and accounted for 18 TDs last season. His top two receivers, Brent Leonard and Tavarese Maye, return after combining for 119 receptions.
Who could steal the show: Arkansas: Running back Knile Davis made a solid return after missing last season with a fractured ankle, carrying 18 times for 70 yards and a score in the win over Jacksonville State. With the rust off, Davis could explode Saturday. Louisiana-Monroe: Safety Isaiah Newsome (5-11, 201) is a hard-hitting playmaker who had three interceptions, two fumble recoveries and 62 tackles last season. The Razorbacks are susceptible to turnovers, having lost three fumbles in their opener.
You going? Ranking the road trip: If you can’t get tickets to the Sept. 15 showdown against Alabama in Fayetteville, you might as well go to Little Rock this week. You’ll get to watch the Razorbacks score a bunch of points and hear the “Woo, Pig Sooie!” chants. Arkansas has won 10 straight games at War Memorial Stadium.
Magic number for Arkansas: 8. The Razorbacks played eight true freshmen in the opener, including defensive end Deatrich Wise, who got a sack. Those players should benefit from another mismatch before Alabama arrives next week.
Magic number for Louisiana-Monroe: 9. The Warhawks have failed to beat Arkansas in all nine tries, though they nearly pulled the upset in 2008, losing 28-27. Two years ago in Little Rock, the Razorbacks won 31-7.
The game comes down to: It’s another tuneup for Arkansas before it measures itself against top-ranked Alabama. Only five defensive starters return for the the Warhawks, who were picked sixth in the Sun Belt. They’ll be hard-pressed to keep the Razorbacks under 50.
Prediction: Arkansas 52, Louisiana-Monroe 14
