The Bay Area had a rough weekend in Pac-12 play with Stanford losing to Washington on Thursday and Cal losing to Arizona State on Saturday. However, don't blame those losses on Bear DB Avery Sebastian or Cardinal LB Trent Murphy, who both played well in Week 5.
3 under-the-radar performances
RB Storm Woods, Oregon State: The Beaver freshman ran for a career-high 161 yards and a touchdown in Oregon State's 38-35 win over Arizona. Woods was slightly overshadowed by teammate Sean Mannion who threw for 433 yards and three touchdowns. Woods was on the receiving end of four of Mannion's passes for 42 yards, giving the freshman more than 200 total yards in the game. LB Trent Murphy, Stanford: The offense didn't do much in Stanford's loss to Washington, which is why Murphy's play was so crucial. The senior linebacker almost won the game for Stanford with a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown that put the Cardinal up 13-3 late in the third quarter. Murphy also recorded one TFL and tied for the team lead in tackles with seven. You can see him again: Saturday, vs. Arizona, 3 p.m. ET (Fox).
DB Avery Sebastian, Cal: In his first career start, Sebastian was all over the field in the Golden Bears' 27-17 loss to Arizona State. The sophomore safety recorded a game-high 14 tackles against the Sun Devils -- no one else on either team totaled more than nine in the game.
