Game Recap
The UTEP Miners lost a heartbreaker to the North Texas Mean Green when they met last December, and they left with a heavy heart again on Saturday. It was close but no cigar for the Miners as they fell 20-17 to North Texas. UTEP hasn't found any success against North Texas since Nov. 26 of 2016, this defeat making it five in a row.
North Texas QB Austin Aune was slinging it as he passed for one TD and 240 yards on 33 attempts in addition to rushing for one TD and 44 yards. Aune's performance made up for a slower game against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles last week.
The losing side was boosted by WR Jacob Cowing, who caught five passes for one TD and 174 yards. Gavin Hardison's 76-yard touchdown toss to Cowing in the second quarter made for one of the most memorable moments of the evening.
The matchup brought North Texas to 4-6 and dropped UTEP to a mirror-image 6-4.
The Miners will be playing at home against the Rice Owls at 4 p.m. ET next Saturday. Rice also suffered a recent loss, falling 42-21 to the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers on Saturday. As for the Mean Green, they will face off against the FIU Panthers at 7 p.m. ET next Saturday at Riccardo Silva Stadium. FIU's offense will be looking to get out and run against an FIU squad that has given up 39 points on average this season.
