Louisville defensive end Lorenzo Mauldin will spend Tuesday night in a hospital after being involved on the wrong end of a hit-and-run moped accident Tuesday morning.
According to the Courier-Journal, Mauldin was struck by a car while riding on campus at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday morning. Three witnesses told police that a car -- described by police as a "champagne-colored sedan or compact car" -- hit the junior defensive end and drive away from the scene.
"Preliminary tests on Mauldin have come back good," Rocco Gasparro, Louisville's SID, reported on Twitter. "[Mauldin] will be kept overnight for continued observation and evaluation for precautionary reasons."
Mauldin is listed as a starter for the Cardinals' season-opener against Ohio on Sunday. The 6-foot-4, 243-pound end played in 11 games last season, recording 22 tackles and 4 1/2 sacks.
There has been no indication thus far that his status for Sunday is in the air, but it is likely the team would wait until Mauldin is released on Wednesday before making any decisions. Redshirt freshman Nick Dawson and junior B.J. Dubose are listed as Mauldin's backups if he is unable to play on Sunday.
