Florida State senior defensive tackle Jacobbi McDaniel will likely redshirt this season as he continues to recover from an ankle injury he suffered last season, coach Jimbo Fisher told reporters Monday.

Fisher also said that wide receiver Rashad Greene is the leader for punt return duties. This from Brandon Mellor of Seminoles.com:

McDaniel had played in all 33 games since he stepped on campus back in 2009 until suffering a broken ankle against Duke last year in the sixth game of the season. He missed the rest of the year and all of spring practice while dealing with the injury. He has 65 tackles with 10.5 tackles for loss in his career.

The Seminoles are incredibly deep along the defensive line. Everett Dawkins, Anthony McCloud, Timmy Jernigan, Demonte McAllister and highly touted true freshman Eddie Goldman will man the defensive tackle spots. While Fisher certainly wishes McDaniel could play this season, this does not alter the expectations for the team or the defense.

Greene will fill the void left at punt returner by dismissed cornerback Greg Reid. Other than Reid, Greene was the only other Seminole to return a punt last season. He returned three punts for one yard.
