Former Duke quarterback Thomas Sirk will stay in North Carolina to play out his final year -- his sixth -- of college eligibility. On Friday, Sirk tweeted that he will transfer to East Carolina.

Sirk announced he would be transferring from the Blue Devils program in February. He will compete with Gardner Minshew for the starting job. East Carolina’s coach is former Duke offensive coordinator Scottie Montgomery.
Sirk has battled through numerous injuries in his career, namely to his Achilles tendon. Most recently, he missed the 2016 season recovering from an Achilles injury. When healthy, however, Sirk has shown to be a promising player. In 2015, he accumulated more than 3,400 yards of offense and 24 touchdowns while leading the team in passing and rushing.
With his familiarity with Montgomery and the offense, Sirk could be a breakout player -- even as a sixht-year veteran -- at the Group of Five level next season.
