A recap of all the top-25 action throughout a busy Week 11 in college football

Week 11 of the 2023 college football season featured high stakes in the College Football Playoff race, and while there were some tight games along the way, Saturday ended with virtually all the top contenders once again handling business. No. 1 Ohio State and No. 2 Georgia cruised to lopsided wins against Michigan State and No. 9 Ole Miss, respectively. No. 3 Michigan dispatched No. 10 Penn State despite missing coach Jim Harbaugh with a suspension. No. 4 Florida State held off rival Miami and No. 5 Washington hung on for a victory against pesky No. 18 Utah. Elsewhere, No. 7 Texas survived a furious comeback effort by TCU for a three-point win. No. 8 Alabama blew past Kentucky and LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels furthered his Heisman campaign, leading the No. 19 Tigers to their fifth-straight win over Florida. Finally, Oklahoma bounced back from back-to-back losses with a dominant 59-20 win over West Virginia.

Bo wins the battle

Final: USC 36, Oregon 27

In a critical Pac-12 battle, Oregon comes out on top with a 36-27 win that ends USC's hopes of reaching the Pac-12 tittle game. Box Nix completed 24 of 32 passes for 415 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions. USC quarterback Caleb Williams did all he could, completing 19 of 34 passes for 291 yards and a touchdown, but the Trojans were horrendous defensively in the first half. The Ducks march onward to play at Arizona State next week with their CFP aspirations still alive.

Turnover creates huge swing

USC botched this exchange, and Oregon's Evan Williams fell on the football, leading to a huge swing. Bucky Irving capped the Ducks' ensuing drive with a 19-yard touchdown to grow Oregon's lead to 36-14. Had USC scored there, this would have been a one-possession game entering the fourth quarter. Instead, the Ducks are now in full command.

Tomorrow's projected top 25

The college football results from Week 11 did not provide enough wild upsets at the top for a major shake up to the College Football Playoff picture, but the top 25 rankings are going to have plenty of changes when they're updated thanks to multiple ranked teams taking losses on Saturday. 

Kansas and Oklahoma State fell as narrow favorites, while Penn State and Ole Miss were unable to capitalize on top-10 wins as underdogs. We're projecting a step back for all four of those teams, allowing for some shakeups in the rankings just outside of the top 10. Louisville and Missouri should benefit the most from those results with our projection being that the Cardinals will move into the top 10 while Eli Drinkwitz's Tigers will move up four spots to No. 12 in the AP Top 25 poll following an impressive win against Tennessee in the SEC on CBS Game of the Week.

Firing Alex Grinch didn't help

Half: Oregon 22, USC 14

USC's defense remains a mess, even after the firing of much-maligned defensive coordinator Alex Grinch. The Trojans gave up big play after big play in the first half at Oregon as Bo Nix completed 8 of 12 passes for 263 yards and three touchdowns. Included were touchdown passes of 77 and 84 yards, as well as a 63-yard completion. Oregon totaled 330 yards in the half. Caleb Williams is doing his thing — 10 of 17 passing for 155 yards and a rushing touchdown — but at this point there's only so much he can do.

Craziness in Chapel Hill

Final: North Carolina 47, Duke 45 (OT)

No. 24 North Carolina edged rival Duke 47-45 in overtime with the help of a controversial call late in regulation that helped the Tar Heels score a critical go-ahead touchdown with under two minutes remaining. UNC tight end Bryson Nesbit came down with a contested 15-yard reception on a third-and-14 play that set North Carolina up with a first-and-goal, but the Blue Devils protested the ruling because they believed it was an interception.

As Nesbit came down, Duke defensive back Chandler Rivers appeared to at least take joint possession of the football. Instead of reviewing the play, the officials ruled it a catch, which set up Nesbitt to score the go-ahead touchdown on a 15-yard strike from quarterback Drake Maye three plays later. Excessive madness ensued, but the Blue Devils will rue the regulation ruling that helped UNC gain life.

Texas survives at TCU

FINAL: No. 7 Texas 29, TCU 26 

The Longhorns survive a furious comeback effort from the Horned Frogs, who outscore Texas 20-3 in the second half before falling a field goal short in the 94th and likely final meeting anytime soon between these Lone Star State foes. A key moment for Texas occurred when wide receiver AD Mitchell hauled in a duck pass from quarterback Quinn Ewers on third-and-12 in the waning minutes of regulation, allowing the Longhorns to pick up a fresh set of downs and run out the clock. Ewers passed for 317 yards and a touchdown -- to Mitchell, fittingly -- and running back Jonathon Brooks rushed for 104 yards and two scores. However, Brooks left in the second half with an injury, casting questions about his status moving forward. For now, Texas is 9-1 and a step closer to a Big 12 Championship Game berth.

Ohio State keeps it rolling 

Final: No. 1 Ohio State 38, Michigan State 3

Ohio State took care of business Saturday night, improving to 10-0 on the season and once again confirming its spot as the No. 1 team in the College Football Playoff rankings. Buckeyes wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. re-entered the Heisman Trophy conversation with 149 yards receiving and three total touchdowns -- including a 19-yard touchdown run. Quarterback Kyle McCord had the best game of his career, completing 24 of his 31 pass attempts for 335 yards and three touchdowns. Ohio State's defense continued its elite level of play, holding a fourth opponent on the year to less than seven points. 

Basically, the Buckeyes did what they needed to do against a hopelessly overmatched Michigan State team. Next up is a home tilt against Minnesota before that seismic clash against Michigan in the regular season finale.

Dillon Gabriel sets OU record 

Final: No. 17 Oklahoma 59, West Virginia 20

Oklahoma quarterback Dillon Gabriel's eight touchdowns against West Virginia tonight set a new school record, passing former Sooners Heisman-winner Baker Mayfield for most touchdowns in a single game by an Oklahoma player (7 against Texas Tech in 2016). Gabriel ended the night passing for 425 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for 50 yards and three more scores. It's quite the statement for Gabriel and the Sooners as they secure a blowout victory against the Mountaineers, snapping a two-game skid and remaining right in the thick of the Big 12 championship race.

Georgia cruises to a big win over Ole Miss

FINAL: Georgia 52, Ole Miss 17

The second-ranked Bulldogs had no problem taking care of the ninth-ranked Rebels on Saturday night in Athens in a statement game for the two-time reigning national champs. Running back Kendall Milton had a career high 127 yards and two touchdowns on just nine carries, and quarterback Carson Beck threw for 306 yards and two touchdowns to push the Dawgs' record to 10-0 and extend their winning streak to 27 games. They clinched the SEC East crown for the third straight season when Tennessee lost to Missouri earlier in the afternoon, and the win over coach Lane Kiffin's crew essentially served as their victory lap.

Ducks look to fly high against Trojans 

No. 6 Oregon's Saturday night home game against USC may not be a ranked matchup, but it certainly has the feeling of one. Two of the top offenses in college football go head to head as the Ducks look to inch closer to a Pac-12 Championship Game berth and keep their College Football Playoff hopes afloat. Oregon is the more well-rounded team -- USC's defensive struggles have been well-documented -- but the Trojans are still never an easy out with an offense headlined by quarterback and reigning Heisman winner Caleb Williams. Of note, this is also USC's first game since firing defensive coordinator Alex Grinch, which makes the Trojans a bit of a wildcard on that side of the ball.

Jayden Daniels makes history

The star quarterback for the LSU Tigers is making a massive Heisman Trophy statement on Saturday night against Florida. Daniels broke off a 51-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to give LSU a 31-28 lead. That run puts him at 220 yards rushing in addition to his 226 yards passing on the night, making him just the second player in SEC history to break the 200-yard mark through the air and on the ground in the same game. The other is some guy named Johnny Manziel, who did it in the Cotton Bowl following his 2012 season that resulted in him winning the Heisman Trophy.

Georgia's Kendall Milton running wild

End Q3: Georgia 38, Ole Miss 14

Georgia has ripped off 24 straight points to build a huge lead over the Rebels, and running back Kendall Milton is a big reason why. The veteran has a career high 127 yards on just nine carries through the first three quarters, including touchdown runs of 7 and 33 yards. It is just the second 100-yard game of Milton's career after coming to Georgia as the No. 89 overall player in the class of 2020.

Texas surges before the half

HALFTIME: No. 7 Texas 26, TCU 6

The Longhorns score twice in the final 61 seconds of the second quarter to go up three scores at halftime in Fort Worth. Quinn Ewers found AD Mitchell for a 6-yard touchdown with 1:01 to play before TCU quarterback Josh Hoover was intercepted on the subsequent drive, allowing Texas to find the end zone one more time before heading to the locker room. Jonathon Brooks recorded his second touchdown of the night on a 22-yard run with 12 seconds remaining. With the way TCU's offense has looked tonight, that might be the dagger for Texas.

Ohio State on cruise control

Half: No. 1 Ohio State 35, Michigan State 3

Top-ranked Ohio State is taking care of business against Michigan State. The Buckeyes couldn't quite secure a first-half shutout thanks to a 53-yard field goal from Spartans kicker Jonathan Kim midway through the second quarter, but it's been easy sailing regardless. Star wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. had three total touchdowns over the first two quarters: two receiving and one on a 19-yard jet sweep. He also had 92 yards receiving and went over 1,000 yards for the season, becoming the first Ohio State wide receiver to ever have multiple 1,000-yard receiving seasons.

Jayden Daniels highlight run

Late 2Q: LSU 17, Florida 14

Another week, another big play by Jayden Daniels. This time, the LSU star quarterback sprinted down the sideline for an 85-yard score for his seventh rushing touchdown of the season. Daniels is making a case for the Heisman Trophy because of his career-high numbers as a runner and a passer. Daniels status heading into the game was unclear because of a late injury suffered last weekend against Alabama, but he appears to be OK.

Georgia leads by two touchdowns

HALF: Georgia 28, Ole Miss 14

Running backs Daijun Edwards and Kendall Milton each scored in the second quarter to build the Bulldogs' lead to two touchdowns after what was a quick start for both teams. They outgained the Rebels 169-14 in the second quarter and picked off quarterback Jaxson Dart in what has been a dominant performance against one of the most potent offenses in the game. Quarterback Carson Beck has had a fantastic day, throwing for 214 yards and only two incompletions on 15 attempts. One of those completions was a 29-yard touchdown strike to Ladd McConkey in the first quarter to give the Dawgs a 14-7 lead.

Wild play in Fort Worth 

Talk about a huge break for the Longhorns. With No. 7 Texas leading TCU 7-6, Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers is intercepted on a deep pass, only for TCU to fumble the football after entering Longhorns territory on the return. Texas recovers and gets the ball right back on nearly the same yard line where the previously play started, and Ewers hits wide receiver Xavier Worthy on the deep pass moments later. Now comes a prime chance for the visitors to extend their lead in Fort Worth.

Harrison already has three touchdowns 

Early 2Q: No. 1 Ohio State 21, Michigan State 0

That score line could read Marvin Harrison Jr. 21, Michigan State 0. The Buckeyes star has all three of his team's touchdowns thus far, and a couple have come in different plays. He got the scoring started early with a 19-yard touchdown run, taking a jet sweep around the right side of Ohio State's line. He capped the Buckeyes' next two drives with touchdown catches covering 26 and 9 yards, respectively. With his first touchdown catch, he passed Ohio State legend Cris Carter for third-most career receiving touchdowns in program history. Harrison's second touchdown catch brought his career total to 29.

We have a track meet in Athens

Early Q2: Georgia 14, Ole Miss 14

The Bulldogs and Rebels are tied early in the second frame, and it's been a game full of big plays. Ole Miss has three passing plays of 15 or more yards and three rushing plays of 10 or more yards, while Georgia two passing plays of 15 or more and one rushing play of 10 or more yards in what has become an offensive shootout between the hedges. Rebels running back Quinshon Judkins has two rushing touchdowns, and the Rebs have 185 yards rushing through 16 minutes of play. Dawgs running back Daijun Edwards has 40 yards on the ground and one score, and wide receiver Ladd McConkey has a 29-yard touchdown catch from Carson Beck for the two touchdowns for the red and black.

Washington holds on after upset scare 

FINAL: Washington 35, Utah 28 

No. 5 Washington survived an upset scare at the hands of No. 18 Utah, which brought the fight to the undefeated Huskies early and pushed them to the brink in a 35-28 win. The victory improves Washington to 10-0, which is the second-best start in program history only trailing the 12-0 season in 1991 that included a claim to the national championship.

Quarterback Michael Penix finished with 332 yards passing and three total touchdowns (two passing, one rushing), but putting away Utah in the second half required high-level contributions from Washington's defense and the Huskies rushing attack. Dillon Johnson finished with 104 yards rushing and a score to lead Washington on the ground, and the Huskies defense pitched a second-half shutout thanks in part to a pair of interceptions.

FSU avoids upset, Jordan Travis makes history

Final: No. 4 Florida State 27, Miami 20

The Seminoles' perfect season is still alive. After Miami quarterback Emory Williams went down with an apparent serious arm injury in the final minutes of the game, former starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke entered for the final drive and threw a game-sealing interception to Jarrian Jones. Florida State already clinched a spot in the ACC title game last week, and it's becoming increasingly likely the Seminoles will face Louisville for the conference title next month. 

With the win, FSU quarterback Jordan Travis became the first quarterback in school history to beat Miami three times in a career.

Longhorns make last trip to Fort Worth 

The Texas-TCU series that was revived upon the Horned Frogs joining the Big 12 in 2012 is once again a casualty of realignment with the Longhorns bound for the SEC in 2024. The 94th all-time meeting between the Lone Star State foes -- and the last for the foreseeable future -- will see Texas (8-1, 5-1, Big 12) look to inch a step closer to both Big 12 Championship Game and College Football Playoff berths as TCU (4-5, 2-4, Big 12) aims to play spoiler. The Longhorns will have starting quarterback Quinn Ewers back in action after he missed two starts with an injury to his throwing shoulder.

Buckeyes look to stay on top

Ohio State hasn't necessarily passed the eye test every time it has taken the field, but the Buckeyes' resume -- a perfect 9-0 mark with multiple top-25 wins to show -- has allowed them to hold the top spot through two weeks of the College Football Playoff Rankings. Saturday's home game against Michigan State brings a great chance for the Buckeyes to clinch 10+ wins for the tenth consecutive season in which that has been possible (Ohio State only played eight games in 2020). Star wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. had a crucial role in Week 10 at Rutgers, catching two fourth-quarter touchdowns as the Buckeyes pulled clear for a 35-16 victory.

Iowa offense shows signs of life

Final: No. 22 Iowa 22, Rutgers 0

There aren't many football programs in the country that would get praised for scoring 22 points ... except Iowa. The Hawkeyes scored 19 in the second half to pull away from the Scarlet Knights to improve to 8-2 on the season. Iowa quarterback Deacon Hill connected with Ohio State transfer wide receiver Kaleb Brown for a 10-yard touchdown late to put the game on ice and inch the Hawkeyes one step closer to wrapping up the Big Ten West title. That would set up a date with either Ohio State or Michigan in the conference championship game next month.

UCF obliterates No. 15 Oklahoma State

FINAL: UCF 45, No. 15 Oklahoma State 3 

The Knights come out of absolutely nowhere and dominate the No. 15 Cowboys from start to finishing, throwing a wrench in the Big 12 championship race. Oklahoma State was seemingly in the clear to reach Arlington if it took care of business in its final three games, but the Pokes -- at least momentarily -- now find themselves in a five-way tie for second in the conference standings behind Texas. For UCF, it's just the program's fifth win against an AP Top-15 opponent as the Knights pick up their first win against one of the Big 12's founding members. UCF running back RJ Harvey exploded for 206 rushing yards in the win, including this 92-yard touchdown.

Litmus test for Ole Miss at Georgia 

For all the No. 9 Rebels have accomplished since Lane Kiffin became coach in time for the 2020 season, they've still yet to win "the big one" under his watch. Kiffin has a chance to change all of that Saturday night as Ole Miss goes on the road, looking to upset two-time reigning national champion Georgia. That's a tall task considering the No. 2 Bulldogs have not lost between the hedges since 2019, but Georgia has shown vulnerabilities more than once in 2023. A Rebels victory would create instant drama in the College Football Playoff picture, vaulting Ole Miss further into the discussion and giving the Bulldogs absolutely zero margin for error in their quest of a three-peat.

Chaos at the end of the 3rd for Washington

End 3Q: Washington 35, Utah 28 

Huge swings at the end of the third quarter have put Washington's College Football Playoff hopes in the spotlight as the Huskies hold a narrow lead heading into the final 15 minutes. First Bryson Barnes had Utah knocking on the door of a go-ahead score when he was picked off for what seemed in the moment like an interception returned for a touchdown. The only issue was the ball being dropped at the 1-yard line, which negated the score and gave the ball right back to Utah. But then Washington's defense came up with a huge surge at the goal line to get a safety which, while not as good as the touchdown would have been, somewhat repositions the Huskies in the driver's seat of this showdown between Pac-12 title contenders.

Texas A&M making QB change

Fresno State transfer Jaylen Henderson is expected to start for the Aggies ahead of Max Johnson as they host Mississippi State, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel. Henderson will be the third signal-caller to start for Texas A&M this season after Johnson took over for Conner Weigman, who was lost for the season with a lower-body injury against Auburn back in late September. Both teams will enter this game without their respective QB1. Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers is set to be sidelined again due to injury, giving way to Mike Wright as the Bulldogs' starter.

Arizona beats Colorado on last-second field goal

Arizona's first lead of the came with no time left on the clock as Tyler Loop hit a 24-yarder to life the Wildcats to a 34-31 win over Deion Sanders and Colorado. The Buffaloes were 9-point underdogs and played an excellent first half — leading 24-17 at the break — but didn't have enough left in the tank to close out a surging opponent. The Wildcats have won four straight and are now 7-3. Meanwhile, the road to bowl eligibility is now bleak for the 4-6 Buffs with road games against Washington State and Utah to close out the season.

Utah leads at halftime in Seattle 

HALF: Utah 28, Washington 24 

Utah's path to three-peat as Pac-12 champions was narrow coming into the weekend, but a win against Washington would keep title hopes alive and the Utes are off to a strong start leading 28-24 on the road in Seattle. Utah quarterback Bryson Barnes is on track for having the best performance of his season at the same time as Washington quarterback Michael Penix got off to a slow start. Penix completed just five of his first 12 passes but did deliver a couple of touchdowns (one passing, one rushing) to help the Huskies keep pace in a high-powered back-and-forth between these two Pac-12 title hopefuls.
