Now that the quarterback controversy is in the past for head coach Kyle Flood and the Scarlet Knights, attention shifted to running back Jawan Jamison and Savon Huggins in the team's last scrimmage Thursday. The duo did not disappoint, rushing for a combined 127 yards against a stout Rutgers defense.
“I was very pleased,” Flood told the Star-Ledger. “I thought the execution was good. I thought the runners really did a nice job of getting squared up as they went through the line."
As for the quarterbacks, starter Gary Nova only threw a few passes, as the coaching staff is pleased with where he is. Backup Chas Dodd had a rough outing, however, going 4 of 12 for just 50 yards.
You know what assuming can do: Cincinnati quarterback Munchie Legaux said Thursday that he "assumed" he would be the starter in the Bearcats' opener, even though head coach Butch Jones hasn't named him over Brendon Kay. “I assume it’s me,” Legaux told Cincinnati.com. “I’m supposed to, right?”
Louisville's Mount knows his role: Cardinals defender Deiontrez Mount may not have a clear-cut position, but he knows what to do: rush the passer. Mount, a hybrid defensive end/outside linebacker, may not line up in the same stance each play, but he only has a singular objective. "I just like to rush the passer," Mount told the Courier-Journal. "That's what I was recruited to do; that's what I do best."
Big season for Syracuse? Well, probably not. Syracuse has been waiting for a breakout season for a while, but 2012 doesn't appear to be the one. But hey, they have a chance to change that the second week of the season when they face top ranked Southern California.
