I've always had Hunter Dickinson projected to return to Kansas next season, mostly because it was always going to be his best option. So Friday's announcement that the two-time All-American will indeed play a fifth year of college basketball — and second straight with the Jayhawks — had no impact on the 2024-25 CBS Sports preseason Top 25 And 1.
But Rylan Griffen's announcement did.
No, Griffen's commitment to Kansas on Friday didn't change the order of the Top 25 And 1 because Kansas was already No. 1. But what Griffen's commitment did do, along with Dickinson's long-expected declaration, is make it where it would be kinda silly to have anybody other than Kansas ranked No. 1 right now based on current roster-projections.
Could UConn eventually add enough to be No. 1?
Sure, I guess.
The Huskies did secure a commitment from five-star prospect Liam McNeeley on Friday, which is why they're up to No. 5 in Version 13.0 of the Top 25 And 1. But, in this moment, it's hard to argue against the idea that Bill Self has assembled college basketball's best roster, which is why his Jayhawks remain No. 1 -- with room to spare! -- in these rankings.
Simply put, KU is loaded. Take a look at this:

That projected starting lineup would give Kansas a possible All-Big 12 performer at every position and leave enough talented pieces as reserves to where KU's depth-issues this season should be a strength next season thanks to the presence of transfers Riley Kugel (Florida) and Zeke Mayo (South Dakota State), rising sophomore Elmarko Jackson and five-star freshman Flory Bidunga. And then there's Johnny Furphy. The 6-foot-9 wing started 19 games for Kansas this season before declaring for the 2024 NBA Draft. For now, I'm projecting Furphy to remain in the draft -- but he is maintaining his college eligibility, meaning there's still a chance he could return to Kansas. If it happens, the rich will just get richer. But, it's now clear, KU will be among the rich no matter what.
The only other development that impacted Version 13.0 of the Top 25 And 1 is Indiana securing a commitment from Luke Goode, a 6-7 guard who just shot 38.9% from 3-point range in 20.1 minutes per game for an Illinois team that advanced to the Elite Eight of the 2024 NCAA Tournament. The Hoosiers are now No. 19 in the Top 25 And 1 -- and one of seven Big Ten schools included in these rankings. The others are No. 12 Purdue, No. 16 Ohio State, No. 22 Rutgers, No. 23 UCLA and No. 25 Michigan State.
