ACC/Big Ten Challenge scoreboard for Nov. 27

Maryland 77, Northwestern 57: The Terrapins (5-1) exploded for 49 points in the second half as they handed Northwestern (6-1) its first loss of the season. Maryland G Dez Wells had a career-high 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting, scoring both off hard drives to the basket and face-up jumpers. The Wildcats hit just 6 of 25 three-point attempts and were outrebounded 42-15 as a result of the long rebounds. It was the Maryland’s first win in the last four games in the Big Ten-ACC challenge. The Terrapins announced last week that they were switching to the Big Ten conference.

Nebraska 79, Wake Forest 63: The Huskers (5-1) went on a 13-1 run midway through the second half that was spurred by three consecutive jumpers from Ray Gallegos, who finished with a career-high 20 points. Wake Forest (3-3) shot just 3 of 16 from the 3-point line and didn’t get nearly enough from its veterans C.J. Harris and Travis McKie. The tandem, which came into the game averaging more than 30 points per game, finished with just 10 points on 3-for-17 shooting.

No. 1 Indiana 83, No. 14 North Carolina 59: The Tar Heels (5-2) hung with the Hoosiers (7-0) throughout the better part of the first half, but Indiana went on a 15-6 run over the final four minutes and never looked back. Point guard Jordan Hulls conducted a fast-paced Hoosiers attack, dishing out eight assists (the second-highest total of his career) and no turnovers. Hulls was aided by Cody Zeller (20 points, nine rebounds) and Victor Oladipo (19 points, four rebounds) both of whom ran the floor well and benefitted from a poor rebounding effort from the Tar Heels. North Carolina didn’t get the production it’s been accustomed to from leading scorer James Michael McAdoo, who came into the game averaging 16.8 points on 50 percent shooting but finished with just 10 points on 4 of 15 attempts.

No. 3 Michigan 79, No. 18 North Carolina State 72: The Wolverines (6-0) shredded the Wolfpack (4-2) and their 2-3 zone defense as the hosts shot 50 percent from the field and were 16 of 20 at the free throw line, compared to just 6 of 9 at the charity stripe for the visitors. Michigan was led by G Trey Burke, who tied for a game-high with 18 points on 5-of-9 shooting to go with a career-best 11 assists. North Carolina State freshman F T.J. Warren had 18 points on 8 of 10 shooting while F C.J. Leslie had 16 points and 10 rebounds.

No. 21 Minnesota 77, Florida State 68: The Golden Gophers (7-1) dominated the host Seminoles (4-2) as they raced to a 13-point halftime lead. Minnesota G Joe Coleman had 16 points and six rebounds and G Andre Hollins had 12 points, five rebounds and five assists as the Gophers finished with 17 assists. Florida State F Terrance Shannon had 16 points and 11 rebounds off the bench as star G Michael Snaer was just 3 of 9 from the floor with 12 points.

Virginia Tech 95, Iowa 79: The host Hokies (6-0) continually pushed the tempo as they ran the Hawkeyes (5-2) out of the gym in the second half, leading by as many as 21 points. Virginia Tech G Erik Green had a game-high 24 points while G Robert Brown added 18. Iowa, which missed 18 3-pointers, was led by F Aaron White (21 points, 10 rebounds) and G Roy Devyn Marble (18 points, seven assists).

Star of the night: Burke: The 6-foot, 190-pound guard flirted with turning pro last year, but may have solidified his status as a lottery pick in the upcoming NBA draft with his improved passing. The sophomore tied his career-high with nine assists in the first half alone, before catching fire to tie for the game-high in points after intermission. Burke’s jumper, quickness and ability to seamlessly blend a cast of new faces on offense make him one of the top players in the nation.

Inside the box score – 3 numbers worth a second look

24.4 -- Points per game for Green in the Hokies’ new up-tempo attack this year. The senior cracked the 20-point mark four times all of last season.  

6 -- Turnovers for the Wolverines against North Carolina State. Michigan has turned the ball over 10 or fewer times in five of its six games this season.  

5 -- Consecutive losses for Florida State in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Seminoles last posted a win in the event in 2007 when they beat Minnesota in coach Tubby Smith’s first season with the Gophers.

You don’t want to miss: No. 4 Ohio State at No. 2 Duke, 9:30 p.m. ET (ESPN) -- The visiting Buckeyes laid a 22-point smackdown on the Blue Devils last year in Columbus. But Duke has assembled one of the top resumes of any team in the country so far this season and Ohio State has yet to be tested. It will get all it can handle at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
