  • Adrian Peterson: Will retire if still unsigned

Peterson said Monday in an interview with Clarence E. Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that he will retire unless a team offers him an opportunity to play during the 2023 season. Peterson hasn't suited up for NFL action since 2021, when he appeared in three games with the Titans and one game with the Seahawks. The 38-year-old wasn't greeted with any signing opportunities last season and may not be the strongest candidate to find a role for the 2023 campaign, but it wouldn't be unheard of for a team to offer him a depth gig. Whenever Peterson does elect to retire, he'll likely be in line for a trip to the Hall of Fame.

  • Adrian Peterson: Agrees to box with Le'Veon Bell

Peterson and Le'Veon Bell are scheduled for a boxing match July 30, ESPN's Mike Coppinger reports. It's unclear if Peterson will try to sign with a team after the match, at which point NFL training camps will be underway. He said back in January that he wanted to continue playing, but he's clearly exploring other hobbies and business opportunities, perhaps due to limited interest from NFL teams. Peterson is 37 and finished out last season on Seattle's practice squad injured reserve list due to a back injury. He's presumably recovered from the injury if he's healthy enough for a boxing match.

  • Adrian Peterson: Hopes to continue playing

Peterson (lower back) said Monday that he hopes to continue his career in 2022, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports. Peterson dealt with a lower back injury for the final month of the regular season and finished the year on the practice squad injured list. He served mainly in an advisory role for the Seahawks' young running backs while he was hurt, but he hopes to recover during the offseason in hopes of playing somewhere in 2022. The 36-year-old appeared in four games with the Titans and Seahawks in 2021 and rushed 38 times for 98 yards and two touchdowns while securing all four of his targets for eight yards.

  • Adrian Peterson: Going to injured list

The Seahawks placed Peterson (lower back) on the practice squad injured list Wednesday, John Boyle of the team's official site reports. Coach Pete Carroll had an ominous tone when speaking of Peterson earlier Wednesday, saying the running back's lower back hadn't responded well to treatment, and that the team may have an update on his status soon, according to Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times. With this transaction, Peterson's campaign is over. He'll finish his 15th season with 38 carries for 98 yards and two touchdowns to go with four catches (on four targets) for eight yards in four appearances between Seattle (one) and Tennessee (three).

  • Adrian Peterson: Not called up for Week 16

Peterson (lower back) wasn't elevated from the practice squad in advance of Tuesday's game against the Rams, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports. Though Seattle is without two members of its running-back rotation (Alex Collins and Travis Homer) after both tested positive for COVID-19 in recent days, Peterson wasn't able to earn a call-up from the practice squad for the second week in a row. Since the Seahawks did elevate another running back (Josh Johnson), Peterson may still be working to recover from the sore lower back that has inhibited in him in practice of late. Peterson may be ready to go for Seattle's Week 16 game against the Bears, but even if he's added to the roster for that contest, he may find himself behind both Rashaad Penny and Collins in the pecking order for carries.

  • Adrian Peterson: Getting healthier

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Peterson (back) fit in some reps at Wednesday's practice and "looks like he's got a chance" to play Sunday versus the Rams, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports. In particular, Peterson ran "around a little bit" Wednesday and handled some snaps during the ensuing walk-through session. While Peterson may be healthy enough to suit up this weekend, the Seahawks may not elevate him from the practice squad due to a mostly injury-free backfield. Aside from Alex Collins (abdomen) putting in a limited session to kick off Week 15 prep, all of Rashaad Penny, Travis Homer (hamstring) and DeeJay Dallas were full participants Wednesday.

  • Adrian Peterson: Won't play this week

Peterson is dealing with a lower back injury and won't be elevated from the practice squad for Sunday's game in Houston, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports. Alex Collins (groin) has been cleared to rejoin Rashaad Penny and DeeJay Dallas in the Seattle backfield, while Peterson and Travis Homer (calf) have been ruled out. Collins and Penny are both viable candidates to lead the team in carries, while Dallas is more likely to get playing time on passing downs. With Collins out last week, Peterson took 11 carries for 16 yards and a TD in a 30-23 win over the 49ers.

  • Seahawks' Adrian Peterson: May not play this week

Peterson hasn't been at practice this week and won't necessarily be elevated from the practice squad for Sunday's game in Houston, according to Brady Henderson of ESPN.com. Meanwhile, Alex Collins (groin) reportedly is doing more at practice after missing last week's victory over the 49ers. Peterson took 11 carries for 16 yards and a touchdown in the 30-23 win, splitting backfield snaps with Rashaad Penny and Travis Homer (calf/hamstring). The 36-year-old technically resides on Seattle's practice squad, which means he won't be listed on the injury report even if it turns out his absence from practice is health-related. Either way, the Seahawks figure to go with a committee approach again this Sunday in Houston, thought it isn't clear which of Peterson, Penny, Collins, Homer and DeeJay Dallas will be involved and to what extent.

  • Seahawks' Adrian Peterson: Makes history with TD

Peterson carried the ball 11 times for 16 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 30-23 win over the 49ers. Signed earlier in the week to shore up an injury-plagued backfield, Peterson wound up leading Seattle in carries on the day, and while he didn't gain much yardage, his one-yard TD run in the second quarter was a big one. Not only did it begin a comeback from a 17-7 deficit, it was the 126th touchdown of Peterson's career, moving him into a tie with the legendary Jim Brown for 10th place on the NFL's all-time list. AP is also now one of only four players in history with 120 rushing TDs, joining Marcus Allen, LaDainian Tomlinson and Emmitt Smith in a very exclusive club. Whether this winds up being the lone highlight of his tenure with the Seahawks could depend on the health of Alex Collins (abdomen) heading into a Week 14 clash with the Texans.

  • Seahawks' Adrian Peterson: Making debut with Seattle

Peterson is listed as active Sunday against the 49ers. Peterson joined the Seahawks' practice squad Wednesday and was elevated to the active roster Saturday. The move may have been premeditated with Alex Collins tending to a nagging abdominal injury, which surprisingly will keep him on the sideline in Week 13. Earlier Sunday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Peterson would serve as Seattle's lead runner in this contest, with Rashaad Penny (hamstring), DeeJay Dallas and Travis Homer (calf) also available to the backfield. In three appearances for the Titans this season, Peterson managed 27 carries for 82 yards and one touchdown and caught all four targets for eight yards.

  • Seahawks' Adrian Peterson: Likely to lead backfield in debut

The Seahawks plan to have Peterson pick up "the bulk of the carries" Sunday against the 49ers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Though he first joined the organization Wednesday and wasn't elevated from the practice squad until Saturday, Peterson reportedly impressed in his initial workouts with the team and will get an extended look as Seattle aims to find a solution for its struggling ground attack. Alex Collins has served as the Seahawks' primary ball carrier since Chris Carson (neck) suffered a season-ending injury Week 4, but he's averaging a pedestrian 3.9 yards per carry and has just one gain of 20-plus yards across 101 totes. Collins is also listed as questionable for Sunday's game with an abdominal injury and may be at risk of sitting out, as could Rashaad Penny (hamstring), who is averaging only 2.5 yards per carry across the four games he's played this season. Even if both Collins and Penny suit up, Peterson looks like he'll be ahead of them in the pecking order for carries, while either Travis Homer (calf) or DeeJay Dallas serves as Seattle's main pass-catching back. Considering that Peterson was similarly inefficient (3.0 YPC on 27 totes) over his three-game stint with the Titans earlier this season and doesn't offer much of a threat as a receiver, he likely won't be a reliable fantasy option this week even if he leads the Seattle backfield in carries.

  • Seahawks' Adrian Peterson: Elevated to active roster

Peterson was elevated to the Seahawks' active roster Saturday. The Seahawks wasted no time getting the 36-year-old on the active roster after signing him to the practice squad earlier this week. Peterson averaged 3.0 yards per carry across his three games with the Titans this season, so it's hard to really envision a positive fantasy scenario considering his small role in a jumbled running back committee, not to mention an overall inefficient offense as of late.

  • Adrian Peterson: Candidate for Week 13 call-up

Head coach Pete Carroll didn't rule out the possibility of Peterson being elevated from the practice squad ahead of Sunday's game against the 49ers, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports. The Seahawks will have until Saturday at 4 p.m. ET -- the deadline for Week 13 roster moves -- to decide whether to activate Peterson or keep him on the practice squad. Carroll suggested that a decision on Peterson -- who signed with the organization Wednesday -- will likely hinge on the potential availability of fellow running backs Alex Collins (abdomen), Rashaad Penny (hamstring) and Travis Homer (calf), all of whom are listed as questionable for Sunday's contest. Penny and Homer look like good bets to suit up after concluding the week as full participants in practice, while Collins' status is murkier after he never advanced beyond limited participation.

  • Adrian Peterson: Joining Seattle's practice squad

Seattle signed Peterson to its practice squad Wednesday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports. Peterson had a tryout with the Seahawks earlier Wednesday, and he apparently made enough of an impression to warrant a longer look on the practice squad. The 36-year-old appeared in three games for the Titans and had 27 carries for 82 yards with four catches for eight yards and one total touchdown before being cut last week. Seattle has been looking for answers in the backfield with Chris Carson (neck) out for the season, and Alex Collins has been handling the early-down work with minimal success to date (3.9 yards per carry on 101 attempts).

  • Adrian Peterson: Visiting with Seahawks

Peterson is visiting with the Seahawks on Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Peterson's brief tenure in Tennessee ended last week without much fanfare , but he could land on his feet in short order with one of the other NFL franchises that has an obvious need for backfield help. Even if he signs with the Seahawks and eventually takes the lead role, his snaps and carries won't necessarily lead to significant fantasy production given the putrid state of the team's offense. Passing-down backs Travis Homer and DeeJay Dallas have seen more snaps than supposed lead runner Alex Collins in recent weeks, with the Seahawks struggling to run (or pass) the ball and often chasing deficits. The 36-year-old version of Peterson might be an upgrade over the team's existing options, but probably not enough of one to rescue Seattle's rushing game.

  • Adrian Peterson: Parts ways with Tennessee

Peterson was waived Tuesday, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports. Peterson's dismissal headlines a list of 13 roster moves made by Tennessee in the aftermath of a disappointing 22-13 loss to the Texans in Week 11. Making his third appearance with the Titans in that contest, Peterson played just 19 percent of the offensive snaps, carrying nine times for 40 yards while catching two passes for four yards. Meanwhile, Dontrell Hilliard shined in a change-of-pace role behind D'Onta Foreman and Peterson, prompting the Titans to sign the 26-year-old for the rest of the season while parting ways with the seven-time Pro Bowler in a corresponding move. Peterson finishes his time in Tennessee with 27 carries for 82 yards (3.0 YPC) and a touchdown plus four receptions for eight yards. The 36-year-old will presumably look to catch on elsewhere once he clears waivers, but his time in the NFL could be over.

  • Titans' Adrian Peterson: Gets nine carries

Peterson rushed the ball nine times for 40 yards in Sunday's 22-13 loss to the Texans. He added two receptions for four yards. Peterson led the Titans' backfield with nine carries, though Dontrell Hilliard and D'Onta Foreman each earned seven opportunities on the ground. His most effective work came on a drive late in the first quarter during which he ripped off gains of 16, 12, five and four yards. Though Peterson has shown flashes of effectiveness since joining the Titans in Week 9, he has a total of only 82 yards on 27 carries across three contests.

  • Titans' Adrian Peterson: Scores TD in debut

Peterson rushed 10 times for 21 yards and a touchdown while catching his lone target for five yards in Sunday's 28-16 win over the Rams. Peterson -- who was signed just this week -- was immediately placed into the starting lineup in place of the injured Derrick Henry (foot). The 36-year-old, understandably, did not look too sharp playing on such short notice in a whole new offensive system. The Titans used a combination of Peterson, Jeremy McNichols and D'Onta Foreman, but the veteran back led the team in carries and also got the valuable goal-line work. Peterson could carry fantasy utility in this role, but he likely has a low ceiling at this point of his impressive career.

  • Titans' Adrian Peterson: Promoted to active roster

The Titans have officially promoted Peterson to their active roster ahead of Sunday night's game against the Rams, Jim Wyatt of the team's official site reports. With Derrick Henry (foot) on IR and in line to miss extended time, Peterson is slated to help fill in for for the team's injured star. He initially joined Tennessee's practice squad earlier this week and after showing well in practice, the team is prepared to have him suit up this weekend and share backfield duties with Jeremy McNichols, while Dontrell Hilliard and/or D'Onta Foreman are also candidates to be elevated from the practice squad. It remains to be seen how much volume the 36-year-old Peterson will see in his season debut, but he should garner enough early-down work in tandem with McNichols to help those scrambling for running back options in Week 9.

  • Titans' Adrian Peterson: Joining Titans' active roster

The Titans will sign Peterson off their practice squad Friday and add him to the 53-man roster, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. The veteran tailback has practiced with the team the past few days after joining the practice squad Monday, and he apparently made a strong early impression in Tennessee. Jeremy McNichols is currently the only available running back on the Titans roster with Derrick Henry (foot) and Darrynton Evans (knee) on injured reserve, so Peterson could quickly be a factor in the backfield.
