Steelers' Elijah Riley: Picked up by Steelers
Riley was claimed off waivers by the Steelers on Wednesday, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports.
Riley was signed by the Jets off the Eagles' practice squad last season but was waived earlier this season. He re-upped with the team on a one-year deal in April after starting seven games last season. Riley will now get an opportunity to make an impact with the Steelers.

Jets' Elijah Riley: Stays with Jets
Riley signed a one-year contract with the Jets on Monday, Howard Balzer of SI.com reports.
Riley joined the Jets on Nov. 9, when he was signed off of the Eagles' practice squad. After joining the Jets, he appeared in seven games, recording 45 tackles (23 solo), with one sack and a pass defensed.

Jets' Elijah Riley: Practices fully Wednesday
Riley (concussion) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, Rich Cimini of ESPN reports.
Riley missed last week's win over the Jaguars, but he's evidently recovered from the concussion he suffered in Week 15 against the Dolphins. The 23-year-old safety out of Army should retake his starting role Sunday against the Buccaneers barring a setback.

Jets' Elijah Riley: Officially out Sunday
Riley (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Jacksonville, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Riley had to be stretchered out of last week's loss to the Dolphins, so the fact that he was ever in consideration to play this Sunday is a positive. That said, the free safety didn't practice at all this week and has not yet cleared the league's concussion protocol, so New York will be without his services Sunday. With Sharrod Neasman (illness) and Ashtyn Davis (illness) still in COVID-19 protocols, it's unclear who the Jets will line up at safety this weekend.

Jets' Elijah Riley: Enters concussion protocol
Jets head coach Robert Saleh said Monday that Riley has been placed in the NFL's concussion protocol, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Riley's diagnosis comes as no surprise after he was stretchered off the field upon suffering a neck injury in Sunday's loss to the Dolphins. Fortunately, he checked out fine after the contest and had full motion of his extremities, so clearing the five-step concussion protocol will be his main focus as he aims to return to game action. Saleh said he expects Riley to return at some point over the Jets' final three games, perhaps even as soon as the team's Week 16 matchup with Jacksonville.

Jets' Elijah Riley: Won't return Sunday
Riley (neck) is out for the rest of Sunday's game against the Dolphins.
Riley was taken off the field on a backboard and did raise his right arm as he was carried off the field. His exit is a blow to the Jets' secondary, as he's their starting free safety. With Riley out of the picture for the remainder of the game, Sharrod Neasman should see a large uptick in work.

Riley was taken off the field Sunday on a backboard after suffering a neck injury. He will be able to travel back from Miami with the team. Although his status moving forward is unknown, Riley seems to have avoided a serious injury.

Riley had 10 tackles (four solo) in Sunday's 30-9 loss to the Saints.
Riley has performed well in recent weeks as New York's starting free safety following Marcus Maye's season-ending Achilles injury. He has 28 tackles and a sack over the past four games. Riley compiled double-digit tackles in a game for the first time in his career in this one.

Riley appeared in one game with the Eagles this season, but he exclusively played on special teams. Now, with Marcus Maye (Achilles) shut down for the season, the Jets are simply in need of increased depth in the secondary.
