Jets' Mekhi Becton: May have significant injury
MRI exams show that Becton's knee injury suffered at the Jets' practice Monday may have been worse than initially feared, Connor Hughes of The Athletic reports.
Jets coach Robert Saleh initially indicated that Monday's injury was not overly severe, but further evaluations seem to show that Becton may have suffered yet another significant knee injury. Hughes noted the offensive lineman sustained a new right kneecap/patella injury Monday -- the same knee that suffered an MCL issue that sidelined him for all but one game in the 2021 season. Becton will undergo further tests to determine the severity of this new injury, with the possibility that there could be additional issues.

Jets' Mekhi Becton: Moves off PUP list
The Jets activated Becton (knee) off the PUP list Tuesday, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.
Now that Becton -- who tore his MCL back in Week 1 of 2021 -- is finally ready for practice, he figures to compete with George Fant for the starting job at left tackle protecting Zach Wilson's blind side. Whoever comes up short in that competition should find themselves at right tackle to start the regular season.

Jets' Mekhi Becton: Candidate for left tackle job
Coach Robert Saleh said Wednesday that Becton's left tackle days "aren't over," Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Becton looked strong at the position as a 21-year-old rookie in 2020, so there's plenty of reason to believe he can win back his spot there now that he has fully recovered from the MCL tear he suffered in 2021. George Fant also proved solid when he stepped in for Becton last year though, so the Jets very well may opt to kick the third-year behemoth out to the right tackle position to start 2022.

Jets' Mekhi Becton: Ends up on PUP list
Becton (knee) was placed on the Jets' active/physically unable to perform list Thursday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Becton will start training camp on the PUP list after Jets coach Robert Saleh indicated that he expected the offensive tackle to be ready for this stage of the offseason. However, the 23-year-old can be activated as soon as Day 1 of training camp, so there's still a chance he can practice before the start of the regular season. Becton has been sidelined since suffering a torn MCL in Week 1 of last year and will have to compete to reclaim his starting spot heading into the 2022 campaign.
