  • Jets' Mekhi Becton: Making progress

Becton (kneecap) expects to be ready for training camp, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.

Becton suffered an avulsion fracture of his right kneecap during training camp and missed the entirety of last season. Headed into his fourth campaign, the soon-to-be 24-year-old also said he has lost weight and is feeling good. He's expected to be the Jets' starting right tackle next season.

  • Jets' Mekhi Becton: Placed on IR

Becton (kneecap) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.

Becton suffered the injury in practice last Monday, with reports surfacing the next day that the 23-year-old was likely done for the season. The move to IR makes it official, as Becton will likely need surgery to repair the avulsion fracture of his kneecap.

  • Jets' Mekhi Becton: Season likely done

Becton will receive a second opinion on his knee injury, but head coach Robert Saleh said Tuesday that the offensive tackle's season is likely done, Eric Allen of the Jets' official site reports.

Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Becton is dealing with an avulsion fracture of his right kneecap. At this stage, Becton, who was projected to start at right tackle, looks bound for surgery and an extended absence.

  • Jets' Mekhi Becton: May have significant injury

MRI exams show that Becton's knee injury suffered at the Jets' practice Monday may have been worse than initially feared, Connor Hughes of The Athletic reports.

Jets coach Robert Saleh initially indicated that Monday's injury was not overly severe, but further evaluations seem to show that Becton may have suffered yet another significant knee injury. Hughes noted the offensive lineman sustained a new right kneecap/patella injury Monday -- the same knee that suffered an MCL issue that sidelined him for all but one game in the 2021 season. Becton will undergo further tests to determine the severity of this new injury, with the possibility that there could be additional issues.

Becton suffered a knee injury at Monday's training camp practice, Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record reports.

Becton left Monday's practice session after sustaining a knee injury, but head coach Robert Saleh says the early reports indicate the offensive lineman's knee is "stable." The 23-year will undergo additional testing Monday, after which more information will be provided on his status.

  • Jets' Mekhi Becton: Moves off PUP list

The Jets activated Becton (knee) off the PUP list Tuesday, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.

Now that Becton -- who tore his MCL back in Week 1 of 2021 -- is finally ready for practice, he figures to compete with George Fant for the starting job at left tackle protecting Zach Wilson's blind side. Whoever comes up short in that competition should find themselves at right tackle to start the regular season.

  • Jets' Mekhi Becton: Candidate for left tackle job

Coach Robert Saleh said Wednesday that Becton's left tackle days "aren't over," Rich Cimini of reports.

Becton looked strong at the position as a 21-year-old rookie in 2020, so there's plenty of reason to believe he can win back his spot there now that he has fully recovered from the MCL tear he suffered in 2021. George Fant also proved solid when he stepped in for Becton last year though, so the Jets very well may opt to kick the third-year behemoth out to the right tackle position to start 2022.

  • Jets' Mekhi Becton: Ends up on PUP list

Becton (knee) was placed on the Jets' active/physically unable to perform list Thursday, Rich Cimini of reports.

Becton will start training camp on the PUP list after Jets coach Robert Saleh indicated that he expected the offensive tackle to be ready for this stage of the offseason. However, the 23-year-old can be activated as soon as Day 1 of training camp, so there's still a chance he can practice before the start of the regular season. Becton has been sidelined since suffering a torn MCL in Week 1 of last year and will have to compete to reclaim his starting spot heading into the 2022 campaign.
