Player Outlook
Ahmed is back with the Dolphins this season, but he's expected to be buried on the depth chart and be limited to special teams. It's unlikely he'll have a big role if everyone stays healthy. Miami has Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson and De'Von Achane likely ahead of Ahmed heading into the season, though multiple injuries to that group could make Ahmed Fantasy relevant at some point. He's not worth drafting in the majority of Fantasy leagues.

  • Dolphins' Salvon Ahmed: No touches Week 4

Ahmed did not handle a carry during Sunday's 48-20 loss to the Bills. Ahmed, in his return from a groin injury that forced him to sit out Week 3, played just one offensive snap during Sunday's divisional loss and did not record a touch. Raheem Mostert and De'Von Achane appear to have established themselves as the clear top options in Miami's backfield, so Ahmed will remain off the fantasy radar heading into the Dolphins' matchup against the Giants in Week 5.

  • Dolphins' Salvon Ahmed: Suits up Sunday

Ahmed (groin) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Bills. Ahmed missed the Dolphins' 70-20 win over the Broncos in Week 3, but he'll be back in uniform Sunday. That said, Ahmed figures to work in a complementary role in his return, with Raheem Mostert and De'Von Achane - who both racked up big numbers versus Denver - on track to continue to lead the team's backfield in Week 4.

  • Dolphins' Salvon Ahmed: Questionable against Buffalo

Ahmed (groin) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Bills, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports. After missing the 70-20 win over the Broncos in Week 3, Ahmed was a limited participant in all three of Miami's practices throughout Week 4. If he suits up Sunday, Ahmed will likely be relegated to a third-string role behind Raheem Mostert and De'Von Achane, both of whom scored four touchdowns in Ahmed's absence against Denver.

  • Dolphins' Salvon Ahmed: Limited to start week

Ahmed (groin) was listed as a limited participant at Wednesday's practice, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. Ahmed's limited participation was expected after head coach Mike McDaniel said earlier Wednesday that the running back would take part in some drills. While Ahmed is progressing in his recovery from a groin injury that kept him sidelined in Week 3, the Dolphins have little reason to rush him back for Sunday's game against the Bills after Raheem Mostert and De'Von Achane combined for eight touchdowns in Miami's 70-20 romp over the Broncos.

  • Dolphins' Salvon Ahmed: Progressing in recovery

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Ahmed (groin) is "progressing," Adam Beasley of Pro Football Network reports. The team intends to put Ahmed through some drills Wednesday, but the extent of his participation won't be known until Miami releases its first Week 4 injury report later in the day. While Ahmed sat out last week's matchup with the Broncos, De'Von Achane stepped into the spotlight as the No. 2 back and accounted for 233 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns, a landmark performance that likely cements him as the second-string option behind starter Raheem Mostert moving forward. If Ahmed is healthy enough to play Sunday in Buffalo, he could end up seeing most of his snaps on special teams.

  • Dolphins' Salvon Ahmed: Inactive Sunday

Ahmed (groin) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Broncos. With Ahmed (who approached the game listed as doubtful) inactive, rookie De'Von Achane will have a chance to handle increased change-of-pace duties in Week 3 behind lead back Raheem Mostert, with Chris Brooks in reserve. Ahmed will thus target a potential return to action next weekend against the Bills.

  • Dolphins' Salvon Ahmed: Doubtful to face Denver

Ahmed (groin) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's Week 3 game against the Broncos, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. Ahmed was forced to leave last Sunday night's game against the Patriots early with the injury. With Jeff Wilson (abdomen) still on injured reserve, it looks like exciting rookie De'Von Achane will have a chance to carve out a change-of-pace role behind locked-in lead back Raheem Mostert.

  • Dolphins' Salvon Ahmed: Missing first two Week 3 practices

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Ahmed (groin) won't practice Wednesday or Thursday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. McDaniel didn't rule Ahmed out for Sunday's game against Denver but also didn't exactly sound optimistic about Ahmed's chances of suiting up this weekend while noting that rookie running back De'Von Achane is ready for a role in the offense. Ahmed exited early during the Week 2 win over New England in which starting back Raheem Mostert rumbled for 121 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Ahmed's groin injury could open the door for Achane to settle in as the No. 2 option on a more permanent basis, albeit with the potential complicating factor of Jeff Wilson (abdomen) coming off injured reserve at some point after Week 4. None of Ahmed, Achane or Wilson holds much fantasy value with Mostert healthy, but history suggests the 31-year-old won't last an entire season taking double-digit carries each week.

  • Dolphins' Salvon Ahmed: Injury severity downplayed

Coach Mike McDaniel said Monday that Ahmed's groin injury is "not [an] overly long situation," Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports. McDaniel also ruled out a groin tear. It looks as though Ahmed has a chance of being back on the field for Week 3's matchup against the Broncos, though his availability ultimately will depend on how much work he's able to get done on the practice field. Prior to leaving Sunday's win over the Patriots in the second quarter, Ahmed was putting together a relatively productive showing (six touches, 41 total yards) behind Raheem Mostert.

  • Dolphins' Salvon Ahmed: Managing groin issue

Ahmed is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Patriots due to a groin injury. Ahmed put together a relatively productive first half prior to exiting with his injury in the second quarter, as he rushed three times for 13 yards while securing all three of his targets for 28 yards. It's unclear whether he'll be available during the second half, but De'Von Achane could see increased playing time if Ahmed can't return.

  • Dolphins' Salvon Ahmed: Stashes (RB Preview)

Raheem Mostert is already on the injury report with a knee issue. While it may just be a maintenance issue, it's a reminder of his age and injury history. Jeff Wilson is at least three weeks away and Ahmed is currently ahead of rookie De'Von Achane.

  • Dolphins' Salvon Ahmed: Plays second fiddle in Week 1

Ahmed took three carries for 11 yards during Sunday's 36-34 win over the Chargers. He failed to secure any of his three targets. Ahmed worked as the clear top backup to Raheem Mostert in Miami's regular-season opener as rookie De'Von Achane was inactive, but he ultimately saw little work. Miami rarely leaned on its backfield due to the contest's game script, which saw Tua Tagovailoa focus on Tyreek Hill and the receiving game while mostly playing catch-up -- the Dolphins didn't play a single offensive snap with a lead. only moving ahead on the final play. Week 2's divisional matchup against the Patriots could allow the team to deploy a more balanced offensive plan, though Achane could also be involved by that point.

  • Dolphins' Salvon Ahmed: Avoids concussion protocol

Ahmed (head) is not in concussion protocol and is considered day-to-day, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports. Ahmed left toward the end of the second quarter in Saturday's preseason game against the Jaguars after hauling in a five-yard pass from Skylar Thompson. He led the team with 43 yards on four carries and finished the preseason with 185 total yards in three games. Ahmed has been competing against Myles Gaskin and 2023 third-round pick De'Von Achane for a backfield depth spot behind Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson.

  • Dolphins' Salvon Ahmed: Staying put in Miami

The Dolphins signed Ahmed to a one-year, $1.8 million contract Friday, Mike Masala of DolphinsWire reports. Ahmed is slated to remain in Miami for at least one more season while fellow running backs Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson and Myles Gaskin are all in line to become unrestricted free agents come March 15. The 24-year-old has primarily operated as a part of a backfield committee throughout his first three years in the NFL, and he concluded this previous campaign with 21 touches for 120 combined rushing and receiving yards and one touchdown across 13 games.

  • Dolphins' Salvon Ahmed: Effective through air in finale

Ahmed handled five carries for three yards during the Dolphins' 34-31 wild-card playoff loss to the Bills. He also secured three of five targets for 45 yards. Ahmed saw slightly increased utilization during Miami's playoff loss with Raheem Mostert (thumb) unable to go. Through 12 regular-season appearances in 2022, Ahmed handled a total of 12 carries for 64 yards and one touchdown, while securing his only target for eight yards. The 24-year-old is set to be a restricted free agent this offseason.

  • Dolphins' Salvon Ahmed: Quiet in regular-season finale

Ahmed took his only carry for seven yards during Sunday's 11-6 win over the Jets. Ahmed handled his usual rotational role Week 18, but depending on the status of Raheem Mostert (finger) coming off a fractured thumb, Ahmed could be in line for increased opportunities during the wild-card playoff matchup against the Bills. The Dolphins will be without Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) in Buffalo, so the team could lean more on the running game than usual.

  • Dolphins' Salvon Ahmed: Productive in complementary role

Ahmed rushed six times for 43 yards and a touchdown in the Dolphins' 32-29 loss to the Bills on Saturday night. Ahmed saw an elevated role with Jeff Wilson (hip) sidelined, and he ultimately logged one more carry than he had all season combined. Ahmed made good use of the rare opportunity, scoring on an 11-yard run late in the first half to bring the Dolphins to within a point. Despite the encouraging results Saturday, it's difficult to envision Ahmed getting more than just a handful of snaps if Wilson is back for the Week 16 Christmas Day home clash against the Packers, although his performance could ensure he and not Myles Gaskin garners active status for that contest as the No. 3 running back.

  • Dolphins' Salvon Ahmed: Back in full Wednesday

Ahmed (back) was listed as a full participant on the Dolphins' injury report Wednesday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. Ahmed was ruled inactive for Miami's Week 5 loss to the Jets after being limited with a back injury in practice Thursday and Friday. However, the 23-year-old running back appears to be healthy given his ability to return in full for the first practice of Week 6. Ahmed has been exclusively used on special teams over two games played this season, though he could see his first offensive snaps if running back Raheem Mostert (knee) is sidelined for Sunday's game against the Vikings.

  • Dolphins' Salvon Ahmed: Unable to play Sunday

Ahmed (back) is inactive for Sunday's contest with the Jets. Ahmed logged limited practices Thursday and Friday with the injury, but he's still not ready to compete. In his absence, Myles Gaskin will operate as the team's No. 3 running back. Ahmed will work to return in Week 6 against the Vikings.

  • Dolphins' Salvon Ahmed: Questionable with back injury

Ahmed (back) is questionable for Sunday's matchup against the Jets, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports. Ahmed landed on the injury report Thursday as a limited participant due to a back injury and remained limited Friday. The reserve running back has been active for only two games this season and played exclusively on special teams during those contests, so his potential absence shouldn't be concerning for Miami's offense.
