  • Saints' Rashid Shaheed: Shallow outing in finale

Shaheed had three receptions (on four targets) for 34 yards and a seven-yard rush during Sunday's 10-7 loss to the Panthers. Shaheed didn't provide his usual spark as a big-play receiver Week 18. The 180-pound speedster also couldn't provide any explosive plays on special teams, as he fair caught all five of the punts sent his way. Over 12 games this season, the undrafted rookie posted 28 catches on 34 targets for 488 yards and two touchdowns as well as four carries for 57 yards and another touchdown. However, the majority of this production came over the final six games of the season, including three catches of 40 or more yards during that span. This knack for big plays also netted Shaheed the highest yards per reception (17.4) of any Saints receiver with more than five catches this season. He also recorded 320 kick-return yards and 193 punt-return yards. Shaheed's strong showing to close his rookie campaign could make him a candidate for a similarly explosive role heading into the 2023 season.

  • Saints' Rashid Shaheed: Sleeper WRs

I like Chris Olave slightly better than Shaheed this week, but both have plenty of upside. I would start Shaheed as a No. 3 receiver in all leagues with his matchup against the Panthers, who have been awful against receivers of late and don't have starting corners Donte Jackson (Achilles) and Jaycee Horn (wrist). In Carolina's past six games, 10 receivers have scored at least 13 PPR points against the Panthers. And Shaheed has scored at least 13 PPR points in two of his past three games.

  • Saints' Rashid Shaheed: Flex Starter (Lineup Decisions)

If Shaheed were getting more targets he'd be a must-start receiver. As things stand, the speedy Shaheed is yet to see more than six targets during his four-game hot streak (11-plus PPR in three of them), so his upside is a little capped. But anyone who saw the Panthers' highlights last week knows the Carolina secondary is a massive liability. Of the 19 targets Shaheed's seen in his past four, 17 have been caught and six have gone for 16-plus yards with three topping 40 yards. It should also be mentioned that Shaheed has out-produced Olave by 89 yards despite one fewer target in their past three games together. You can bet your beak Shaheed will get at least two deep-ball opportunities and may also catch and run for a large gain against this suspect defense.

  • Saints' Rashid Shaheed: Week 18 Waiver Priority List

Shaheed has the potential to be a No. 3 receiver in all leagues this week with his matchup against the Panthers, who have been awful against receivers of late and don't have starting corners Donte Jackson (Achilles) and Jaycee Horn (wrist). In Carolina's past six games, 10 receivers have scored at least 13 PPR points against the Panthers. And Shaheed has scored at least 13 PPR points in two of his past three games. Chris Olave also has the chance for a big game as well in Week 18.

  • Saints' Rashid Shaheed: Pops another big play

Shaheed recorded six receptions on six targets for 79 yards in Sunday's 20-10 win over the Eagles. Back in favorable weather, Shaheed returned to showcasing his big-play ability. He popped a 58-yard catch late in the second quarter to set up a field goal for the Saints. While that accounted for the majority of his production, Shaheed's involvement in the offense was notable as he managed a career-best six targets even with Chris Olave (hamstring) back in the mix. Shaheed now has at least one reception of more than 20 yards in four of his last five games.

  • Saints' Rashid Shaheed: Top wideout in tough weather

Shaheed gathered in four of five targets for 41 yards during Saturday's 17-10 win over the Browns. Shaheed stepped up as the Saints' No. 1 receiver, with rookie first-rounder Chris Olave (hamstring) inactive Saturday. The undrafted pass catcher was one of only two New Orleans wideouts to log a target, as the team attempted 15 passes due to the frigid and windy conditions in Cleveland on Saturday. Running back Alvin Kamara was the only other Saints player to log more than two targets or one reception, while tight end Juwan Johnson caught one of two targets for nine yards. Shaheed's production over the previous three games has clearly placed him as the No. 2 wideout ahead of Tre'Quan Smith and Marquez Callaway. With veteran slot Jarvis Landry (ankle) also set to miss the remainder of the regular season on IR, expect Olave, Johnson and Shaheed to serve as the team's top receiving trio when healthy.

  • Saints' Rashid Shaheed: Could be No. 1 wideout Saturday

Shaheed appears to be in line to serve as the Saints' No. 1 receiver Saturday in Cleveland with Chris Olave (hamstring) ruled out for the contest and with Jarvis Landry (hamstring) moving to injured reserve, John Sigler of USA Today reports. Though the undrafted rookie out of Weber State didn't make his NFL debut until Week 6 and was initially deployed as a return man and gadget player, Shaheed has pushed for a more prominent role on offense in recent weeks. His snap share on offense has steadily been trending upward for each of the past six games, culminating in a breakout Week 15 outing against Atlanta in which he hauled in three of four targets for 95 yards and a touchdown while playing 71 percent of the snaps. While he can't be considered a safe bet to match nearly the eight targets per game Olave has earned this season, Shaheed should at least be more of a priority in the passing attack this week than either Tre'Quan Smith or Marquez Callaway. According to Sigler, Shaheed has run 89 routes since Week 11, while Callaway and Smith have ran only 12 and 10, respectively. That said, with heavy winds and temperatures around 10 degrees Fahrenheit in the forecast for Cleveland on Saturday, it wouldn't be surprising if Shaheed's opportunities are limited in the likelihood that both teams favor run-heavy game plans.

  • Saints' Rashid Shaheed: Career outing in loss

Shaheed gathered in all four targets for 75 yards during Monday's 17-16 loss against Tampa Bay. Shaheed continued to serve as the explosive element in the Saints' limited offense, catching a 40-yard pass from quarterback Andy Dalton for the team's longest play from scrimmage Monday night. The undrafted wideout also quickly set a new career high when he reached 71 receiving yards with his third reception of the first half. The speedster came close to breaking the first special-teams score of his career on a 42-yard punt return in the second quarter, but he was forced out of bounds by punter Jake Camarda at the Tampa Bay 40-yard line. Shaheed's dynamic abilities as both a receiver and scoring threat in the open field appear to have earned him a bigger role, as his 36 offensive snaps fell behind only first-round rookie Chris Olave (41) amongst the Saints' wide receivers. The team will now have a bye week off before taking on the division-rival Falcons on Sunday, Dec. 18.

  • Saints' Rashid Shaheed: Limited at practice

Shaheed (back) was a limited practice participant Friday. Back-to-back limited practices suggest Shaheed is on track to play, though it's still possible he gets a game designation when the Saints release their final injury report Friday for Monday's game in Tampa Bay. The undrafted rookie out of Weber State made some big plays on limited snaps in October and then played 48 and 53 percent of snaps the past two weeks. After catching two of three targets for 53 yards in a shutout loss to San Francisco last week, Shaheed could get another look Monday night as the Saints' No. 3 receiver, with the other options being Kevin White (illness), Tre'Quan Smith and Marquez Callaway.

  • Saints' Rashid Shaheed: Tending to back issue

Shaheed (back) practiced on a limited basis Thursday. Shaheed has worked his way into a consistent role within the Saints offense, recording at least one catch in five of the last six games and seeing 48-plus percent of the snaps in back-to-back contests. During that six-game span, he's recorded an 8-164-1 line on 10 targets and also added a six-yard carry. Now, the injury bug that has hammered New Orleans' skill positions this year is affecting Shaheed. On a positive note, though, he has two more sessions this week to get back to full and avoid a designation for Monday's road matchup with the Buccaneers.

  • Saints' Rashid Shaheed: Three touches in Week 12

Shaheed had two receptions on three targets for 53 yards during Sunday's 13-0 loss to San Francisco. He also added a six-yard run. Shaheed played his biggest all-around role of the year as he lined up on a season-high 53 percent of the Saints' offensive snaps. The rookie wideout logged the team's longest play from scrimmage, hauling in a 35-yard pass down the middle of the field in the first quarter. New Orleans will likely look for ways to get the ball in Shaheed's hands more often given his upside as a playmaker.

  • Saints' Rashid Shaheed: Season high in catches Sunday

Shaheed gathered in all three of his targets for 38 yards during Sunday's 24-0 win versus the Raiders. Shaheed logged his first multi-catch game of the season, despite playing just 15 offensive snaps in this blowout victory. After scoring long touchdowns on each of his two touches in the previous two contests, the undrafted rookie accounted for the Saints' second-longest play from scrimmage against Las Vegas with a 30-yard reception, and he also recorded 15 yards across two punt returns. Shaheed appears to have a knack for explosive plays, though his playing time likely will plummet once wideouts Michael Thomas (foot) and Jarvis Landry (ankle) return to the lineup.

  • Rashid Shaheed: Candidate to join active roster

There's a possibility that Shaheed could receive a promotion to the Saints' 53-man roster ahead of Sunday's game versus the Bengals, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports. Returner Deonte Harty suffered a turf toe injury during Sunday's 39-32 win over the Seahawks, leaving Shaheed in consideration for the vacated special-teams role. In addition, Michael Thomas (foot) has missed each of the last two contests, rookie Chris Olave suffered a concussion Sunday versus Seattle, Jarvis Landry (ankle) didn't suit up in Week 5 and Kawaan Baker has one more game remaining regarding his six-game suspension. With all the questions looming around the team's WR corps, Shaheed could see his first NFL action Sunday against Cincinnati.

  • Rashid Shaheed: Waived by Saints

Shaheed was waived by the Saints on Tuesday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports. The wide receiver failed to appear in any of the Saints' preseason games before being let go Tuesday. There's a good chance that Shaheed clears waivers and signs with the Saints' practice squad.

  • Saints' Rashid Shaheed: Moves off NFI list

Shaheed passed his physical Monday and was activated off the Saints' active/NFI list, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports. It's an encouraging sign for Shaheed, who had missed training camp up to this point with an undisclosed injury. He'll look to impress this preseason as he competes for a depth role in the Saints' wide receivers room, but the holder of the FCS record for career kick-return touchdowns could also sneak onto New Orleans' initial 53-man roster with his work in that capacity.

  • Saints' Rashid Shaheed: Signs with NO as UDFA

The Saints signed Shaheed as an undrafted free agent Friday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports. Shaheed finished his collegiate career at Weber State as the FCS all-time leader in kick-return touchdowns. He'll likely compete with Deonte Harty for kick-return duties in 2022, though Harty is expected to have the advantage after signing a $4 million RFA tender this offseason.
