  • Broncos' Samaje Perine: Minimal involvement in loss

Perine rushed three times for nine yards and secured two of his three targets for 15 yards in Sunday's 70-20 loss to the Dolphins.

Perine had another disappointing outing Sunday as the Broncos fell to the Dolphins in a blowout loss. The veteran played fewer offensive snaps (19) than Javonte Williams (26), but both backs finished with two grabs on three targets in the passing game. As the season moves on, it's likely that Williams will continue to see the majority of the work out of the backfield, as the second-year rusher handled 11 carries on the ground compared to Perine's three. Going forward, it seems Perine could be difficult to trust for consistent production in an offense that is continuing to find its footing under head coach Sean Payton. The 28-year-old could have an opportunity for a bounce-back performance Week 4, when the Broncos visit the Bears and their struggling defense.

  • Broncos' Samaje Perine: Quiet in loss

Perine carried once for four yards and secured three of his four targets for 20 yards in Sunday's 35-33 loss to the Commanders.

Despite leading all Denver running backs in offensive snaps, Perine was unable to get much going for fantasy purposes. The veteran's 50 percent snap share was just over that of teammate Javonte Williams, who reached a 45 percent snap share in the contest. With that said, Williams was much more involved in the game plan with 12 carries and three targets. It's possible that Perine could continue to see a dip in touches as Williams proves he can handle a normal workload. Nonetheless, the 28-year-old Perine will look to have a bounce-back performance when the Broncos visit the Dolphins in Week 3.

  • Broncos' Samaje Perine: Efficient on 12 touches in defeat

Perine rushed eight times for 41 yards and secured all four targets for 37 yards in the Broncos' 17-16 loss to the Raiders on Sunday.

Perine served as an ideal complement to Javonte Williams, who was playing in his first regular-season game since his season-ending knee injury in Week 4 of 2022. While Williams' 13 carries Sunday might be a bit misleading given head coach Sean Payton had noted his lead back would be on a "minutes limit" in the contest, Perine's workload was nevertheless encouraging for the time being. The 2017 fourth-round pick of Washington carved out a steady but relatively modest complementary role behind Joe Mixon in Cincinnati the last three seasons, and once Williams is back to normal usage, it's likely Perine's touches are accordingly scaled back somewhat from the volume he saw Sunday.
