49ers' Randy Gregory: Won't play Week 5
Gregory won't be available to play for San Francisco on Sunday versus Dallas, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
The 49ers acquired Gregory in a trade with the Broncos on Friday, but the veteran edge rusher won't get a chance to show off his skills for his new team until Week 6. The addition of Gregory should bolster a San Francisco pass rush that already features reigning NFL DPOY Nick Bosa.

49ers' Randy Gregory: Dealt to San Fran
Gregory was traded to San Francisco on Friday along with a 2024 seventh-round draft pick, while Denver received a 2024 sixth-round pick in return, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Gregory was expected to be released imminently, but the Broncos managed to find a trade suitor instead to get out from under some of his five-year, $70 million contract. He's struggled to stay on the field since signing that contract in the 2022 offseason, but the 30-year-old edge rusher could make San Francisco's vaunted defense even more fearsome if he can stay healthy. He has just one sack through four games in 2023 but recorded six sacks in both 2018 and 2021.

Broncos' Randy Gregory: On way out of Denver
Broncos head coach Sean Payton said Wednesday that Gregory will be released if he's not traded within the next 24 to 48 hours, Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette reports.
Per Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post, Payton cited the play of the Broncos' younger edge rushers as the reason for the team's plans to move on from Gregory. Since signing a five-year, $70 million deal with Denver last March, Gregory has appeared in just 10 of a possible 21 games while totaling 21 tackles, three sacks and two forced fumbles.

Broncos' Randy Gregory: Set to leave Denver
The Broncos are expected to release Gregory on Wednesday, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Denver will cut Gregory lose after he was bypassed for the start at outside linebacker in the Week 4 win over the Bears in favor of Nik Bonitto. Gregory still played 47 percent of the snaps on defense and totaled three tackles, but the Broncos seem inclined to increase Bonitto's role after he tallied four tackles and 2.5 sacks in the win over Chicago. Gregory signed a five-year, $70 million contract with Denver last offseason, but he was held back by injuries in 2022 and will move on from the Broncos having accrued just three sacks over 10 total games with the club.
