Saints' Tyrann Mathieu: Inks new deal with New Orleans
The Saints re-signed Mathieu on a two-year, $13 million contract Thursday, Josina Anderson of CBS Sports reports.
The 31-year-old has officially agreed to terms to stay in New Orleans after spending the last two years with the team. Despite a slight drop in his numbers in 2023, Mathieu remained effective, tallying 75 total tackles and nine passes defended, including four interceptions through 17 regular-season contests. Assuming he can avoid injury, the 2013 third-rounder should maintain his every-down role as the Saints' starting free safety in 2024.

Saints' Tyrann Mathieu: Tackling production dips in 2023
Mathieu appeared in all 17 games during the 2023 regular season, tallying 75 tackles and nine passes defended, including four interceptions.
Mathieu logged 16 fewer tackles compared to the 2022 campaign when he recorded a career-high 91. However, he remained effective in coverage during his second season with New Orleans, tallying at least three interceptions for the fifth season in a row to go along with the fourth pick-six of his 11-year career. Mathieu will enter the final season of his three-year, $28.3 million contract with New Orleans in 2024.

Mathieu notched four tackles (three solo) and two interceptions in Sunday's 24-15 loss to the Falcons.
Mathieu halted a Falcons drive deep into New Orleans territory by picking off Desmond Ridder at the Saints' one-yard line late in the second quarter. The veteran struck again in the third period, picking off Ridder on a deep pass intended for Van Jefferson. The interceptions were Mathieu's second and third of the campaign, giving him at least three pickoffs in five straight seasons.

Saints' Tyrann Mathieu: Suits up for Week 8
Mathieu (foot) is active for Sunday's game against the Colts, John Hendrix of SI.com reports.
In a sign of good news for the Saints' secondary, Mathieu and starting strong safety Marcus Maye (illness, hamstring) will both play Sunday. Mathieu has played in all seven contests so far this season and has amassed 26 tackles (16 solo) and an interception returned for a touchdown.
