Charles Sims: Works out for Tennessee
Sims worked out for the Titans on Tuesday, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM Radio reports.
Tennessee is in the market for a No. 3 running back after David Fluellen injured his knee in Sunday's win over the Patriots. While unlikely to match Fluellen's contributions on special teams, Sims could provide passing-down insurance for Dion Lewis, whose recent uptick in workload creates a higher risk of injury. Selected 69th overall in the 2014 draft, Sims averaged just 3.9 yards per carry and 6.7 yards per target while playing 47 of 64 games in his four seasons with Tampa Bay. He hasn't been a useful player since 2015.

Charles Sims: Working out for Houston
Sims is working out for the Texans on Thursday, Aaron Wilson of The Houston Chronicle reports.
After being waived by the Buccaneers a week ago, Sims is now looking to catch on with the Texans. With D'Onta Foreman (Achilles) confined to the PUP list for the first six games of the regular season, Houston lacks reliable running back depth behind starter Lamar Miller and change-of-pace back Alfred Blue. It's conceivable that Sims, who logged 110 receptions over the last three seasons, could earn a depth role due to his pass-catching abilities.

Charles Sims: Waived with injury settlement
The Buccaneers have waived Sims (knee) with an injury settlement, the team's official site reports.
With Sims no longer in the mix, the Bucs' 2018 backfield will be headed by Peyton Barber, Jacquizz Rodgers and Ronald Jones. Once Sims is healthy, he'll be free to catch on with another team, and in the right context it's conceivable that the 27-year-old could re-surface on the PPR radar.

The Buccaneers placed Sims on injured reserve Thursday.
After injuring his left knee in Saturday's preseason game at Tennessee, Sims wasn't believed to be dealing with a serious concern, but Thursday's roster move indicates otherwise. Thus, his fifth professional campaign is over before it can even start. The development makes the backfield easier to parse out for Week 1 and beyond. Peyton Barber is the likely starter, with rookie Ronald Jones II and Jacquizz Rodgers providing support. Meanwhile, the fourth and final spot may come down to roster cuts on Sept. 1, but undrafted free agent Shaun Wilson may be closing in on a job as well.

Buccaneers' Charles Sims: Not at practice
Sims (knee) isn't practicing Monday, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Although his injury isn't believed to be serious, Sims never figured to practice Monday after he got hurt in Saturday's preseason game agains the Titans. Some missed practice time wouldn't normally be a big deal for a player with his level of experience, except that Sims is trying to fend off competition from Jacquizz Rodgers and Shaun Wilson to earn a role on passing downs. The three players are competing for either one or two roster spots.

Sims was nicked up on the opening kickoff, which could hurt his standing in the backfield with roster cuts due in exactly two weeks. At the moment, Peyton Barber is fending off rookie Ronald Jones II for the starting gig, and Sims' injury should open the door for Jacquizz Rodgers to make an impact on offense Saturday and perhaps beyond.

Buccaneers' Charles Sims: Fighting for roster spot
Sims will need to compete for a roster spot with the Buccaneers during training camp, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.
The 2014 third-round pick generated minimal interest as a free agent, ultimately rejoining Tampa Bay on a one-year, $1 million contract that includes only $200,000 guaranteed, per OverTheCap.com. The lack of interest isn't much of a surprise considering Sims is a passing-down specialist who managed just 5.5 yards per target over the past two seasons. The Bucs could turn to Jacquizz Rodgers, Ronald Jones or even undrafted rookie Shaun Wilson to handle passing-down work if they decide Sims isn't worthy of a roster spot.

Sims played in all 16 games for the Bucs last season, collecting more receptions (35) than carries (21). He'll likely remain limited to passing downs, though the 27-year-old did begin to see work on special teams in the back half of last year. Sims will have to compete with Peyton Barber and Jacquizz Rodgers for offensive snaps, and likely will face additional competition after the upcoming draft.

Charles Sims: Still unsigned
Sims remains unsigned following the first two weeks of free agency, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
A 2014 third-round pick, Sims missed 17 games in four seasons with Tampa Bay while averaging only 3.9 yards on 245 carries, but he was a useful third-down option with 129 catches for 1,190 yards and six touchdowns on 177 targets (6.7 yards per target). There are a number of teams that could use a passing-down back, though many of them likely prefer to wait until after the draft, as the incoming class of running backs contains some impressive multi-faceted threats. The Buccaneers may fall in that bucket, likely eyeing a running back within the first few rounds of the draft. The Colts and Giants also stand out as reasonable landing spots for Sims.

Buccaneers' Charles Sims: Quiet in season finale
Sims rushed once for six yards, failed to bring in his only target and netted 19 yards on his sole kickoff return in Sunday's 31-24 win over the Saints.
The pass-catching back finished his 2017 campaign with a relative whimper, and he came up empty in the passing game for only the second time all season. Despite Doug Martin missing the first three games of the regular season due to a PED suspension and then seeing his role significantly reduced in the latter portion of the season, Sims did not see any uptick in opportunity. In fact, the 27-year-old actually logged the fewest carries (21) of his four-year career despite playing all 16 games, a particularly notable stat considering he'd notched 66 and 51 rushes over just eight and seven games, respectively, in the '14 and '16 seasons. Sims did make up for some of the dropoff with typically strong work through the air, posting the second-best reception (35) and receiving yardage (249) totals of his first four campaigns. An unrestricted free agent heading into the 2018 offseason, a return to the Buccaneers is possible, but it remains to be seen if the versatile back will draw the attention of a team in free agency that believes he's been underutilized up to this point.

Sims did not net any yardage on his sole carry, brought in his only target for 19 yards and gained 13 yards on his one kickoff return in Sunday's 22-19 loss to the Panthers.
Sims saw a solid 24 snaps on offense, but he garnered just a pair of touches after he'd logged no less than four in any of the previous six contests. Sims brought in all four of his targets for six yards in Monday night's 24-21 loss to the Falcons.
Sims drew even with Cameron Brate for second on the team in receptions Monday, and it was the running back's second-highest catch tally of the campaign. The 27-year-old has posted at least two grabs in seven consecutive games, but he's logged only 11 rushing touches over that span. Factoring in that he was shut out of the running game entirely against Atlanta despite Doug Martin being declared inactive for the contest, it's clear Sims' modest fantasy value will remain strictly limited to deep PPR formats barring a sudden rash of multiple injuries in front of him.

Sims rushed three times for 16 yards and brought in two of three targets for 11 yards in Sunday's 24-21 loss to the Lions.
Sims mirrored his Week 13 rushing line while also posting at least two catches for the sixth straight game. The four-year pro has yet to see more than three carries in any game this season, so his primary fantasy value is essentially limited to deep PPR formats. He'll look to exploit a Falcons defense that's been vulnerable to pass-catching backs in a Week 15 divisional battle.
