The Texans endured a setback last week at New England in their quest for the top seed in the AFC, but they got back on track Sunday with a 29-17 win over Indianapolis, a win that clinched the AFC South title.

“We worked hard to get to the playoffs,” Texans coach Gary Kubiak said Monday. “We worked hard to win a division, and now we've got to continue that same effort to try to find a way to possibly be a one seed in this playoff hunt.”

Because New England lost 41-34 to San Francisco on Sunday night, Houston can clinch the top seed and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs with a win over Minnesota on Sunday.

“It would be huge for our city,” Kubiak said. “But it’d huge for this team because playing at home in this league and having the benefit of your crowd and getting off on cadence and all those types of things, it’s a big, big factor in success in this league.”

At 12-2, Houston is tied with Atlanta for the best overall record in the NFL. The Texans have won six of their seven home games, and five of those wins have come by double digits.

Like the Falcons, the Texans have had their share of detractors, especially after their 42-14 loss to the Patriots. However, in Sunday’s win over the Colts, Houston got back to playing the type of football that got it to 12 wins, especially on defense.

“That’s the next step for us,” Kubiak said of home-field advantage. “But still I think the most important thing is how you’re playing. You go through history how teams have gotten to the Super Bowl. A lot of teams have won a championship, it still always goes back to the ones playing the best football.”

Injury updates: The Texans did not suffer any major injuries against the Colts. LB Tim Dobbins hurt his thumb but is expected to be fine. RT Derek Newton (knee) and TE Garrett Graham (concussion) returned to action Sunday and did not have any setbacks.

“We’re trending in the right direction from that standpoint getting some guys healthy,” Kubiak said.

CB Alan Ball (foot) and OLB Brooks Reed (groin) are the last two the Texans hope to get back on the field before the end of the season. Both have missed the last three games due to injury.
