A day after the reported signing of Myles Jack, the Pittsburgh Steelers have released veteran linebacker Joe Schobert, who played just one season for the black and gold. Schobert, who was acquired last summer from the Jaguars in exchange for a 2022 sixth-round pick, was scheduled to count $9.7 million against the salary cap.

A Pro Bowler for the Browns in 2017, Schobert recorded 120 tackles, one interception, six passed defensed and a forced fumble during his lone season in Pittsburgh. His forced fumble occurred near the end of the Steelers' Week 8 win over the Cleveland Browns. Schobert's interception helped the Steelers defeat the Titans in Week 15.

The Steelers have replaced Schobert with one of his former teammates in Jacksonville. Pittsburgh reportedly inked Jack to a two-year, $16 million deal that includes a cap hit of just $4.75 million for the 2022 season. A second-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Jack racked up 108 tackles in 15 games for the Jaguars last season. He was a integral part of the Jaguars' formidable defense in 2017 that helped the franchise advance to the AFC Championship Game.

Schobert is not the only former defensive starter the Steelers are prepared to part with this offseason. Safety Terrell Edmunds is currently a free agent, along with former Pro Bowl cornerback Joe Haden. Haden's time in Pittsburgh appeared to come to a definite end with the team's reported signing of former Bills cornerback Levi Wallace. Pittsburgh was reportedly able to sign Wallace to a very affordable deal of $8 million over two years.

The Steelers' have also used free agency to acquire quarterback Mitchell Trubisky and offensive linemen James Daniels and Mason Cole. Receiver, defensive line and strong safety remain the positions that the Steelers have yet to address this offseason.
