The Raiders don’t have many battles brewing for starting jobs as they prepare for their Monday night exhibition opener against Dallas at the O.co Coliseum, but they still have plenty of questions to be answered in the coming weeks.

That’s understandable, considering they have a new coach, new general manager, new offense and new defense, not to mention new coordinators on offense and defense.

Coach Dennis Allen and GM Reggie McKenzie are trying to lay the foundation for their football construction project and prepare for the coming season at the same time.

Questions to be answered in exhibition season:

1. How quickly can offensive coordinator Greg Knapp and defensive coordinator Jason Tarver have their schemes running smoothly? Knapp is installing a version of the West Coast offense, complete with zone blocking. Tarver, with a big assist from Allen, is installing an aggressive, blitzing, multiple defense. These are big changes, and there’s plenty for players on offense and defense to learn. By the time they open the regular season against San Diego on Sept. 10, the Raiders need to be reacting on the field instead of stressing about Xs and Os. These next four weeks will be crucial.

2. Can RB Darren McFadden stay healthy? Granted, this question will stand for the entire season, but first things first, and that means the exhibition games. McFadden has proven to be one of the NFL’s elite running backs when healthy. But McFadden missed the final nine games last year with a Lisfranc sprain of his right foot. He hasn’t played more than 13 games in any of his first four NFL seasons. McFadden appears to have recovered completely. He’s been running hard and fast during camp and vows not to change his violent running style. But he hasn’t taken a true hit since Oct. 23 against Kansas City last season. The first big test comes Monday night against Dallas.

3. Can new starting cornerbacks Ron Bartell and Shawntae Spencer, a pair of free-agent pickups, bounce back after rough 2010 seasons? Bartell suffered a season-ending broken neck in the first game last year with the Rams. He has recovered from that injury but will need to knock off plenty of rust after missing almost an entire season. It didn’t help when he hurt his hamstring a week before camp opened and missed nearly a week of practice. Spencer, who battled hamstring and turf toe injuries last year, fell out of favor in San Francisco. He didn’t start a single game and appeared in just nine. Bartell and Spencer have combined for 137 career starts, but they both turned 30 on Feb. 22.
