The Giants are expected to announce soon that they've signed RB Kregg Lumpkin (No. 20). (US Presswire)

With RB Andre Brown headed to the short-term IR with a broken fibula, the Giants are set to add journeyman RB Kregg Lumpkin, CBSSports.com has confirmed. Brown is eligible to return after eight weeks, which means the Giants would need to reach the Super Bowl if he’s to dress again this season.

Lumpkin, 28, is a Georgia product who previously played with the Packers, Buccaneers, and, most recently, the Seahawks, who waived him in September. The former undrafted rookie had 41 receptions for 291 yards with Tampa Bay last year, but ultimately was not retained.

Veteran running backs Ryan Torain, Ryan Grant and Cadillac Williams were also in for a workout, according to reports from the (Newark) Star-Ledger and ESPNNewYork.com. The Giants later signed Torain as well.
