When Philadelphia holds it first offseason minicamp under new coach Chip Kelly, they're going to do it without Trent Edwards. The Eagles released the five-year veteran on Monday, Edwards served as the team's No. 3 quarterback in 2012, behind Michael Vick and Nick Foles.
Edwards only saw action in one game last season, going 2-for-2 and throwing for 14 yards in a 42-7 Week 17 loss to the Giants.
The former 2007 third round pick of the Bills has started 33 games in his career, going 14-19 in those starts.
Despite cutting Edwards, the Eagles still have four quarterbacks on their roster in Vick, Foles, Dennis Dixon and G.J. Kinne. Kelly has previously said that Vick and Foles will compete for the starting spot with Kinne and Dixon expected to duke it our for the third string role.
Edwards probably knew his time in Philly was running short when the Eagles signed Dixon in mid-February and if he didn't think it then, he probably definitely realized it when Kelly brought in former Tulsa quarterback Kinne in March.
The Eagles begin voluntary minicamp on Tuesday.
