The past two seasons Cincinnati changed its third-string quarterback following final cuts and brought in a fresh prospect. In 2010, Jordan Palmer was promoted to second string and J.T. O'Sullivan was sent packing in favor of Dan LeFevour, who spent the preseason with the Bears. In 2011, LeFevour was ditched in favor of Zac Robinson, who spent the preseason with Detroit.

This season, the carousel stopped where it started. Robinson cleared waivers and was one of seven players added to what will eventually be a eight-man practice squad.

Robinson went 16 of 22 in the preseason finale against Indianapolis showed a competency for offensive coordinator Jay Gruden's system. It clinched his job.

He'll be joined on the practice squad by OL Otis Hudson, DB Chris Lewis-Harris, LS Bryce Davis, LB Emmanuel Lamur, RB Jourdan Brooks and the only member of the 10-man draft class to be cut, RB Daniel Herron.

Hudson becomes the most likely to land on the 53-man roster if Cincinnati places C Kyle Cook on the new IR/eligible to return list this week. The new rule allows a team to place one player on IR who can return eight weeks after being placed on the list. Hudson can fill in depth at a guard position low on bodies. The only backups to starters Clint Boling and Kevin Zeitler currently on the roster are Dennis Roland, Trevor Robinson and Anthony Collins, all who would be patchwork backups since they serve as reserves at other positions on the line.
