Magic's Jalen Suggs: Signs five-year extension
Suggs and the Magic agreed to a five-year, $150.5 million rookie contract extension Monday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
Suggs posted career-high shooting splits (47/40/76) last season but has yet to truly break out offensively in the NBA. However, his defense has always been elite, and he was named to the All-Defensive Second Team for the 2023-24 campaign. Suggs is heading into Year 4 and will look to take another step forward for the up-and-coming Magic, who surprisingly finished fifth in the Eastern Conference last season.

Magic's Jalen Suggs: Strong two-way performance
Suggs totaled 12 points (3-8 FG, 0-4 3PT, 6-7 FT), seven assists, four rebounds, four steals and one block in 24 minutes during Friday's preseason win over the 76ers.
Suggs was a pest on the defensive end, tallying five combined steals and blocks. Slated as the starting point guard, Suggs is primed for a potential breakout after finally delivering a productive campaign during the 2023-24 season. Although he may not be a prototypical point guard, his assist and steal numbers should be enough to keep him afloat, making him a viable target in the ninth or tenth rounds of drafts.

Magic's Jalen Suggs: Won't see heavy minutes
Suggs is "expected to play around 16 minutes" in Wednesday's preseason duel versus San Antonio, Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel reports.
Suggs will operate on a limited workload alongside Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero. Each player is expected to see approximately 16-to-20 minutes of action Wednesday, per coach Jamahl Mosely.

Suggs had his first crack at being the Magic's point guard and had a decent showing while being among the players who logged more minutes for Orlando. Even though his shooting numbers were subpar, it's worth noting that Suggs made a career-best 47.1 percent of his shots from the field in 2023-24. Expect him to continue seeing reps as the point guard role ahead of the regular-season opener against the Heat on Oct. 23.

Magic's Jalen Suggs: Awful shooting in playoff exit
Suggs closed Sunday's 106-94 loss to the Cavaliers in Game 7 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs with 10 points (2-13 FG, 2-10 3Pt, 4-5 FT), nine rebounds, four assists and one steal across 40 minutes.
Suggs didn't have a good series against the Cavaliers and failed to operate as the third scoring option the Magic desperately needed at times. He reached the 15-point mark in just two of the seven games and averaged 14.7 points on a mere 40.2 percent mark from the floor. Despite the playoff woes, Suggs' role as a starter for the Magic next season shouldn't be in question.

Suggs registered 13 points (5-14 FG, 0-5 3Pt, 3-4 FT), five rebounds, one block and two steals across 39 minutes during Tuesday's 104-103 loss to Cleveland in Game 5 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Suggs wasn't able to generate much on the offensive end, and he has the unenviable task of trying to slow Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell in this series. Despite some solid counting stats, Suggs hasn't played to his full potential yet, as he's hitting just 24.0 percent from beyond the arc in his last five games.
